[Endurance] 2nd Akasaka Grand Prix - The Successor to Trial Mountain 2 HoursOpen

I'm certainly interested in those public practice sessions, as a person who raced in several GT6 online championships before I've learned not to trust my offline times all that much. Especially when PD's own servers love to glitch out whenever it's possible... Besides, the best kind of practice you can get is practice with your rivals, in order to actually see who's OP and who isn't. :sly:

Everyone knows that, but usually online times are only half a second slower, which would maintain White Samurai in the 1:11s still.

Running 57s on RMs in 680pp, around low 59s on RHs.

TESTING LOBBY OPEN!

I should perhaps clear up on one thing:

Because the actual qualifying and race will be run in a private club for reasons of avoiding randomers interfering, I must be able to invite you to it. Anyone interested in participating, make sure non-friends can message you.

I will also have a public test lobby up in a couple of hours.

I've looked into the issue of MR cars in 500PP.

To give as fair an idea of the situation as possible, I put two different MR cars up against two different FR cars. These tests were done online using only upgrades and no fine tuning and were all done on Racing Medium.

The cars:

Challenger SRT8 '08
Fairlady Z (Z34) '08
Clio V6 24V '00
NSX Type R '02

The observations:

The Challenger and Z were absolutely lovely to drive. You have to be an idiot on the throttle to really upset these, they are just so planted in all corners. I am actually considering changing to either of these because of the great handling.

Then came the Clio V6. At 500PP, it's not stable at all and I'm pretty sure I spent more corners sideways than I did pointing at the exit. Even then, it was 3 seconds faster than the FRs. Not until I had lowered it to 450PP were they on the same level.

So when I came around to the Honda, that was what I was expecting would work here as well. But no. At 450PP, even though there is all the grip you could ever want (you basically only need to brake for Turn 1 and the hairpin), it was just too slow on the straights, barely reaching 200km/h before you brake for the first turn.

Everything taken into consideration, I see especially these three options open:

1: Ban MR from 500PP but potentially allow them to enter the 600PP class instead
2: Remove the PP limit from all classes and instead introduce a minimum lap time
3: Continue to allow MR in 500PP with a generalised handicap

A minimum lap time would be far too ambiguous, since not all drivers are familiarised with MR cars and some may not be able to drive at the same pace as other drivers. I'd say keep the PP limit, and handicap the production MR cars as you see fit.

A decision has been made:

MR cars are banned from participation in the 500PP class and are instead welcomed in the 600PP class. Changes to the OP to reflect this will be made soon.

Qualifying trials also begin this coming Friday, so don't forget to fill in the form and make sure non-friends are allowed to message you in the GT6 Community, otherwise you will not be able to take part.

Communications will be attempted done in-game, I will try to livestream it correctly and I will most definitely make a highlights compilation once the race is over and I have some time for that.

"Ooohh it's back yay!"
*Looks when the race actually takes place*
"Damn you responsibilities!"
Sadly I'll have to sit this one out due to job related reasons.

...

Why am I so bad at scheduling things?

You might have some better luck if you scheduled it a couple hours earlier or even the weekend after the one your going for now. I'm not sure what others plans are though. Do whatever you can to make it work for as many people as you can. Start by talking to those who are already available for the current time.

It's happening

Since I apparently can't invite non-friends to the club (for reasons of.. reasons, I guess?), a link to the club has been put in the OP. I reserve the rights to block all PSN IDs I don't see on the entry list.

It's also been decided that MR is banned in 500PP, but the cars affected are welcomed in 600PP.

On the other hand, any sort of Le Mans Prototype is banned from 600PP.

Qualifying will start within the next 24 hours, which is a great note to explain the concept of these. Basically it's a 20 minute race with a mandatory pit stop. Whoever completes the most laps in the fastest time during this takes pole position in their class. So yes, the 680PP class will have all its drivers ahead of the driver in pole in 600PP etc.

I'll also just ask, what is the general concensus on starting 90 minutes earlier to allow people in the 12h to participate?

I'm for it, and due to a change in plans I'm entering this race regardless now. I take it qualifying is going to be set up as an event in the club that we can launch at our leisure? Save the replay and take a screencap of the finish showing the number of laps?

Qualifying is indeed set up as club events for people to start at any point in time they see fit.

I believe the results screens created when a race in a club event finishes shows both the laps covered and the time taken to get there. If that's not the case, then yes, you'll want to take a screenshot of a results table, regardless if it's the one right after the finish or the one upon return to the lobby.

FWD cars don't count as Le Mans Prototypes, do they? :sly:

I'll have to do a very quick investigation on that one. If it's too fast, it'll be moved up a class. If it's at aa reasonable level, you'll hopefully give @Peelster1 a run for their money

Unfortunately, certain schedule conflicts will make me unable to race. Sorry.

:(

Slight bit of double-posting, but I have a public lobby (opened and accessible through the club) open for people to join.

Qualifyings will also open in ~20 minutes and then run for 7 straight days.

Is it still open? Also what is it based on? Fastest lap time?

Also @Whitetail , what times are you running on RHs and RMs?

It's closed now.

If you're thinking how qualifying works, you might say it's all about average lap times. You have 20 minutes to complete as many laps as possible. If (well, when) two or more drivers complete the same amount of laps, whoever took the shortest amount of time to complete them will take the position.

Let's say Driver X and Driver Y both complete 20 laps because they're OP in the 680PP class. When they cross the line to finish their run, Driver Xs Total Time (ie the time it's actually taken them to complete 20 laps) says 20:03.whatever, whereas Driver Ys says 20:01.samplenumbers.
They've both completed the same amount of laps, but Driver Y has the faster overall time and is thus further up the order.

Well, I still have a few minor issues with my own steed, as shown by my quali session; while I did feel that the car was planted most of the time, I had to take two trips to the pits because it seems that I am able to find the right corner spots which cause the rear to snap into oversteer. However, judging by my final time, the RX-8 has the speed compared to the only other car in its class:

SAM_1239.JPG

So, where does this put me? I'm one lap down compared to morten's lap count but, at the same time, I did those 17 laps faster than his 18...

A perfect case on how this qualifying works:

As of right now, you would be 2nd in 600PP, because you completed a lap less. The fact that you're closer to a perfect 20:00.000 "overall time" doesn't matter in this case.

Had you been able to sneak in another lap, and your overall time was faster than my 20:32.4, you'd be on pole for our class.

Consider qualifying a miniature version of pretty much any endurance race, except your opponents are represented by their times. Complete the most laps and be the first to do so and you'll be victorious.

Well then, that was the result I feared, thanks for clarifying. 👍

Finding the right sweet spot to maintain the car stable throughout most of the track is indeed the toughest part... Perhaps I need to stop thinking about driving faster in one single lap and maintain consistency for two or three.

FINALLY RAN 21 LAPS AFTER ABOUT 900 TRILLION ATTEMPTS!

(Oh god this race is going to be hell)

Ok, I signed up, but Im still not sure if I will be able to race. If I do, I will be driving the same car as last year :D
