Rugby World Cup Quarter Final Result

Australia 10
England 12

Here's to all you Aussies who thought it would be a walkover. You were stuffed. England's Forwards were IMMENSE.

A shock win for England...

...but no shock that the Aussies blew it on the big stage once again.

I thought one of their players was lucky not to be sin binned, the tackle was on Gomersall, I say tackle it looked like it belonged in the world of WWE. Well done England, fantastic performance, after the try I thought we were dead.

A shock indeed, but England simply heaved Aus out of the game. Wilko was a bit off colour, could've been a more convincing 21-10 if he had scored those points. But onwards an upwards. Should France pull a miracle out of their arses (something I never thought I'd hope for) we face a slightly easier task in the Semis...but then again who knows...maybe we could beat the All Blacks and pull off a massive shock.

Agree on that tackle, IMO he had been lucky to avoid a binning earlier. That talking on Gomersall should've been a sending off, 9 times outta 10 those tackles result in bans after the match. They should be resulting in red cards too.

ZOMG WTF!?

France V NZ. What an awesome game. Make sup for missing teh England game cause of work. Loved the sprint across the pitch at the end

The world cup is on? Well after getting beaten in the final of 2003 by that John guy, expectations are low and interest even lower :ouch:. Good for you England 👍

@Nige. Hey mate, keep up the insults. Makes me feel a little better about myself knowing that the win agaisnt Australia ment so sooo much to you that you now try and rub it in to us "stuffed" Aussies. What a compliment :)

If Fiji had beaten the Saffys and Scotland the Argies, then England, France, Scotland & Fiji would've been the oddest Semi Final line up. Ah well...Come on you Argies! I feel we have a better chance against them than the Saffys. That's if we beat France mind you...will be tough still.

What a game, I though we did okay defensively, but we should have won by a lot more. Johnny missed a few drop kicks in the first half, but France didn't get a try. I was on the edge of my seat though, being 1 point behine, then 4 then 1 point again right up until the 73rd-74th min I think. Anyone see the spitting image type scene before the match with the French coach and Chabal in a Hannibal Lecter mask.

Great win, not at our best, made some mistakes (Nick Easter gave away 2 penalties iirc). What a turnaround in this tournament, plenty of work to do afterwards even if we do win.

It's not a one off if it happens twice.

Speakin gof the final though, it was anybodys game. The try decisions could have been a turning point though, we'll never know. All I can say is that video referee shouldn't be allowed to ref a big game again. He could see what I could see and there was no way that players leg was in touch before the ball was grounded.

We should have played for the drop goal and penalties more than for a try though, we just wern't breaking their defence down. They wern't breaking our down either, but they got the penalties where it counted most.

Yes, it was. You could see from the TV replay behind the play that his leg was on the line before the ball was touched down. One of the (English) pundits in the ITV studio admitted it was the correct decision too.

His foot was on the ground and moving towards the line, but his foot came up just before it went onto the line. I'm pretty sure from memory that it was at that point that the ball was grounded, his leg went down after that.

We saw it on the TV like 5 times from different angles and I swear (like ITV did) that it was a try.. but maybe the fact that his leg slid onto the white line before touchdown rather than he foot touching the ground was the reason for the decision.

Oh well that was the deciding factor now we will never know, hope the referee can sleep at night, there will be alot of angry people out there!

Miserable week for English sport with the Football, Rugby and F1 (but I was supporting Alonso)...

As I said in the F1 thread Martin Brudle said it best...

"What is it with british sportsman making the public and fans suffer like this, why does the winning never come easy!"

I think we can take many positives tbh.

No one expected Lewis to win, an experience he will gain from.
No one expected the egg chasers to get to the QFs let alone the final.

Football is an exception though, we need a new manager, someone who knows what a decent defence is.
