I guess you're right. Our prolem is that we are very incosistent. We lost to Northern Ireland, got thrashed by Denmark then we go and beat Argentina! Weird.

I can't believe I forgot one of the biggest contenders to sit beside John Terry at Centre Back, Jamie Carragher. The only problem I see with that is that both Terry and Carragher are short, and I doubt Sven would place two short defenders at Centre Back. I still think Ferdinand has the starting position in the bag.

Walcotts in. If I was him id be shattin out a brick right about now. Talk about pressure. Hope he does us proud.

LOL well he scored for the Under 19's england squad, and got man of the match, and he was on arsenals bench against real madrid and juventus to come on if henry got injured. Hes our secret weapon so to speak to against barca.

England need a better right-back. Neville isn't bad, but I mean, he's really not International material in my eyes. John Terry is an excellent defender. Drug-cheating aside, Ferdinand isn't bad. I wouldn't rule out Ledley King, either. Ashley Cole is good when he's fit, and if Wayne Bridge could hit peak fitness and good form, he can be a good left back.

But I do think that England have a pretty consistent defence, and one which England can rely on not to make many mistakes. A lot of the larger teams like Spain, France and Italy have good defenders, but inconsistent nonetheless, and they have the tendency to make mistakes and become complacent on occasions.

I'm not saying that Neville is the best, but he is international quality with tonnes of experience, was in a champions league winning side, winning the fa cup and the league. Also I dont think he would be picked as man u's captain if fergie didn't think he was quality.

As for the team selection, I just hope Wallcot can pull a Messi. I've seen a couple of Wallcot compilation videos and he does seem to have a crapload of pace and a fair few tricks up his sleave. The only thing, like Messi he's pretty young and doesn't have much physical presence.

:lol::lol:

4 strikers, 2 not fully fit (one definetley unavailable to start), 1 has never played Prem' football and 1 is just a huge crock of S***.

And I know that England can get plenty of goals from midfield (Gerrard, Lampard, J. Cole, Beckham) but they're gonna need all the luck they can get. Still won't be getting any from me though

And yeah thats the video, I think he might fair well. I mean Messi is pretty simmilar and look how well he's done.

Sven hasn't seen Walcott play a proper match...

I'd be feeling pretty hard done by if I were Darren Bent right now...(*checks back of shirt, confirms I'm not Darren Bent*) The top English goalscorer in the Premiership this season with 18 goals to his name, and he misses out on the chance to play in the World Cup, in his prime, to a player who has never played a Premiership match and who Sven has never actually seen playing a proper game... tough call for Bent :grumpy:

I think the main reasons Sven picked Wallcott over him are that he wants to show he has a backbone and won't let the press pick the squad for him. Walcott has also shown flashes of genius when i've seen him playing, whereas Darren Bent is pretty mediocre IMO.

I think it is stupid and unfair and from Bent's point of view, it's probably absolutely outrageous that Sven will pick a player he hasn't seen play, has never played in the Premiership and has only ever seen three times in training over the top English goal scorer in the Premiership. I'm not a huge Bent fan, but hell, to take a player who's never played Premiership football and who you've never seen actually play before is just insane. Proof that Sven should have gone before this world cup started imo.

lol everyone has a valid point about walcott not playing but during arsenal matches me and my dad always used to shout at the TV for wenger to "put the youngster on".

So, he's got no top flight experince, that counts for a hell of a lot. That's why some players come into the premiership from the 1st diision as it was, now the championip, and they looked promising, but they couldn't handle the pace and atmosphere of the top flight. Sven is an idiot, plain and simple. He's made Walcott's day, sure, but he may have ruined a lot of England fan's. Especially if Walcott screws up, can you imagine what that could do to hm, he could have a tirade of hate spearheaded at him and Sven together, it could ha ve big impact on him. We have no idea, not a clue how Walcott will be in the cup, I hope to god he comes through it good and does us all proud, I'm not going to be bitter over it. But what message does that send to English player's, like Bent, who've had the England player possibility dangled in front of them like a carrot to a Donkey and performed well to try and get that carrot, only to see some 17 year old who's got no experience and never been seen playing by Sven get's picked before you.

I guess there's gonna be alot of pressure on Wenger to let Walcott proove himself in teh chamions league final, if he has the balls that is. Though surely a player chosen for the world cup squad is capable of playing a lead role in a champions league team.

I'm nto so much against the inclusion of Walcott, not even at the expense of Bent, but when England so many doubts for fit players up front.

Nah... the real reason is because England are playing Sweden... 💡

I wouldn't read too much into it, sure it's positive, but there's still a long way to go for him to be given the okay to go to Germany. We won't be seeing him in the group stages though whatever happens, thats for sure.

Thought I'd use this post to summarise all the great moments England had in this year's World Cup...
