extinct manufacturers

I can't seem to find this asked anywhere, so here goes...

Is it even possible for cars from extinct companies (i.e. studebaker) to be put in video games? There was much talk of classic cars, and these would fit. Have cars from defunct companies been included in other games to anyone's knowlege?

GT4 would be (in my mind) more fun with cars that would actually be competition for a model T and older beetles.

Skimming over my list...

Alpine no longer exists (although I believe their name was absorbed by Renault)
Austin-Healey no longer exists
Chaparral no longer exists
Does Morris still exist?
Plymouth no longer exists but they are obviously under the control of DaimlerChrysler

Subaru no longer exist. They were baught out by Toyota then toyota stopped production... oh wait its not 2010 yet.

As long as the copyright information is availible, the cars can be put into the game, otherwise any corporate enteties that own the copyrights to the old classics could sue unexpectedly.

What!? I though Subaru was owned by GM. I say this because when I got to GMs sight I can get a direct link to Subaru. Anyway. Isn't Plymouth is a brand that no longer exists.

Subaru is owned by Fuji Heavy Industries, but GM owns about 20% or so of Fuji's stock. Subaru and GM have a partnership in which they share technology.

Same applies with GM and Fiat, and GM and Isuzu.

Datsun and Prince Motors are Owned by Nissan, which is in turn owned by Renault, so hopefully we'll see a Prince Skyline :P

and there are obviously going to be a few Datsuns running around in GT4 (crosses fingers for 240ZG and 510)

You know, "extinct manufacturers" can even apply to racing-only machines. Like, look at Belgium's Gillet Vertigo Race Car, and Australia's Tickford Ford Falcon XR8. You might find Brabhams perchance. Don't forget some Triumphs as well. Maybe muscle car fans can race an AMC Rebel. So why not think about some racing makes as well.

That "778 CARS CONFIRMED!!!" hoax talked about GT fans will be able to race a DeLorean a la "Back to the Future" (never seen the movie. Don't invite me to your fan club of that movie). Anything can happen, but as far as entinct manufacturers, this can also include extinct racing manufacturers. How many Pescarolos are sold to the public? And Tickfords? Thought so. It can happen, though. Don't get me wrong.

We've seen both of these in screenshots already if I'm not mistaken.

I'd like to drive a DeLorean and finally know what all the fuss is about for a piece of stainless steel with a poorly lubricated Volvo V6 inside. That and an ISO Rivolta.

I wanted to say that Gillet still exists, and tried to find a link to its website, but the website doesn't exist any more  Also, the Vertigo didn't participate in the last BELCAR race. Did they really stop their activities??

Okay, I was talking about racing-only manufactuers. I'm sorry if I threw my post off the wall a bit.

Gillet still exists: www.gilletvertigo.com The exact race car from GT3 doesn't exist anymore simply because they changed sponsers and the paintscheme.

And Pescarolo doesn't really make race cars either. Courage are the makers of the C60 chassis, Pescarolo merely modified them enough that they now want to call them Pescarolos.

Gillet makes road cars too, the Vertigo is a road car based on a similar chassis to the Caterham 7 that has a powerful race car based on it.

Thats why you see that SAAB/Subaru clone :yuck:

losing Mitsubishi would be a huge loss to Rally, the Evo is probably the most used and most awarded rally car in the world, i don't even think the WRX has as prestiged of a name in Rally.

but i agree with you on AMC, i'd love to tear it up in a '72 Javelin
