Probably the same things the other reviewers took marks off for - the steep learning curve, the "sterile" career mode and the way it's not a massive leap forwards from F1 2010.

I had a feeling this game was going to be overhyped then , I have F12010 already so i'm not in any rush to get this one.

I'll maybe pick it up when it goes Platinum ( & they give it it's one and only bug patch like last year.....:lol::lol: )

I don't think it's being over-hyped ... more that it might alienate casual gamers. There's a very steep learing curve, and the addition of KERS, DRS and the strategy options are a lot to manage. It's really a game that has been designed for fans.

I see your point there , and in my opinion this game needed to be a bit more " Hardcore " . Casual gamers could always make use of driver aids options I guess. In F1 2010 you had options that did important things for you , pitlane speed limit etc.... I suspect that might be the case here.

I think the game will sell quite well regardless of which side of the simulation / casual style handling fence it sits on. But if it is the simulation side then yes , i'd be very happy with that. The PS3 needs more realistic racing simulatiors in my opinion , that's what draws alot of us to GT5 for example.

:)

Quick question though: Those games you pulled from Wikipedia, were those the games I was referring when I said "Something finally releases in the US first and then [insert country here; for the sake of this spat let's stick with the UK]", or for that matter did you even know which context I was speaking of? Oh, what's that? You don't know?

Funny, that didn't stop you from rushing in and responding as you did.

All of those games are "something that released in the US first and then the UK". I don't see what context has to do with it - "finally something" suggets to mean very few things release there first.

+1 mate.

But you guys are straying a little off topic just to have an argument about America....

Just saying.....

Agreed but this is a touchy subject for me, I hate to see people complaining about their situation like that. I'm happy to end the argument there, I wanted to defend myself.

I did a search of KERS and DRS, both of them sound cool. I wonder how much they will be used in a race though. You guys that watch real F1 on tv, is it obvious when a driver activates either of these? Just wondering. I watched that Redbull video and I saw him taking a line I never tried before. I always tried to stay off of the curbs on any track but his fastest lap time was two seconds better than mine at Melbourne. I'm going to try that line out today because wouldn't you know that my next race is at that same track.

Yes , KERS ( Kinetic Energy Reserve System ) gives you a bhp boost & combined with DRS ( Drag Reduction System ) it gives the driver behind an extra 20 ( Ish ) Mph gain . Enough to get alongside . It's a great sport , can get dull sometimes though....

You can use these aids from lap 3 until the finish of the race in real life & in F1 2011 the game.
*Edit* KERS can be used from the start , DRS lap 3 onwards.....

True, but success is going to hinge on the strategic use of DRS, KERS and managing tyres. And some of those are going to be a little too nuanced for casual gamers. I know that (if I get it), the first thing I'll do is reformat all of the controls to make it easier. I was really surprised in DIRT 3 when I found the accelerator and brake were on the trigger buttons.

Also a good point 👍

L2 and R2 you mean ? I thought that was the industry standard at the moment , ( Toca Race Driver Grid etc... ) , I thought GT5 was still in the dark ages when I saw the default controls of X and Square for accelerate and brake.

You get much better car control from the triggers I think , it feels very natural after a while. I presume that DRS and KERS will be activated by the directional pad , that's usually the Codemasters default. F1 2010 had full button customisation , so you will be well catered for I think.

:)

DRS, can only be used in a 1 second window. You must be within 1second of the guy in front. Also DRS is only used in certain sections of the track.

Qualifying it can be used anywhere.
Using it on a corner should throw you off track btw. No rear downforce.

Hope Codies got that right.

Oh wet weather should disable DRS too.

The game sounds much better now going by the videos posted. Hopefully they made it so you need rear downforce in the game to go fast, not just straightline speed and fixed the bugs in F1 2010 that affected performance.

Frame rate improvement on the PS3 version will definately enhance the experience, less so for people getting the PC version. I hope they added some way to save and watch replays.

Edit:

Just went to the official forum and saw Singapore qualifying times. They are probably over 12 seconds faster than what is possible in real life so not looking that good on the realism front.

I hope this gives us a taste of replays, awesome stuff in the trailer.

In F1 2010 its got shockingly awful camera angles that don't change at all

That fake lap times from F12010 were really dissapointing for me... And only 1 patch was a slap... They got my money last year, but this year I will be waiting...

But the trailer is really sweet!

They've addressed those issues.

The main problem with F1 2010 was that they had to build the ground from the game up, and in a very short period of time, and so compromises had to be made. But for F1 2011, the basic architecture was already in place, and Codemasters have had more time to address the details.

Ali, why did you do this to me...:(

Then again, did they use all sorts of driving aids, maybe? I certainly hope so...

The AI is something like 9 seconds faster and I'm sure a top F1 2010 driver will be quicker like Shaggy or Pipeslice without aids.

They try and tune the game to real times by maybe scripting the physics, difference in GT5 is the physics only allows cars to do close to real times and that is why out of thousand cars, they are all quite realistic, even the F1 cars in GT5 around Monza and Suzuka and Nurburgring GP are close to real times, although GT5 is not quite there yet as it does not feel as good as Ferrari Virtual Academy to drive which looks much more closer to the onboards of real 2010 F1 cars.

Hello, this will be a definiteve purchase for me, (PC)

I am very curious about knowing, which track they are referring to, when Codemasters says: "with the return of the iconic Nurburgring"

are they talking about the 73 corner Nordschleife track! (please please please) or is it just the GP version, and why would THAT be NEW?!

It's the GP version for sure. The F1 cars don't run around the Nordschleife, although that would be 'interesting'.

It's new cause it alternates with Hockenheim each year, wait until the 2012 game and they will single out Hockenheim as if it's been gone for years, like they said 'and the return of the world-famous Nurburgring' or something along those lines...

Just checked PS Store & it seems Codies want you to download an activation code from the game to play their online modes.

It costs £6.29 UK or about $10 US.

I can't see any other reason for this apart from putting extra money in their pockets......

👎👎👎

It's becoming standard practice now. Both Madden and FIFA require an online passcode, or pay $10 to play online. When you have millions of customers, charging extra like that really pads their pockets, unfortunately.

Yeah I really hate that. It's about time a regulatory body stepped in to monitor what the gaming companies are doing.

At the moment any company can put extra charges on their games as they see fit.

Does anyone know what size the online download activation is ? If it's in kilobytes then it was on the disc the whole time , & we were being held ransom for it.

I believe it was 100 kb when I downloaded it.

Yep , proves my point then lol.

F1 2010 didn't need this surcharge.....

Thanks for your input Zilla.
