Hi,

I've seen some videos of this game on youtube and so I tried to compare performances with real lap times on some circuits.

For example in real 2011 Spa-Francorchamp Gran Prix pole position was 1:48.298 by Vettel and best race lap time was 1:49.883 by Webber (as reported on wikipedia).

On youtube I've seen a video showing a lap time of 1:35.763
Another video show a performance of 1:38.332

So it seems to me that lap times in this game are not really similar to real ones (10 seconds of difference in these examples).

I'd like to know what do you think about it.

Thanks

In F1 2010 it was hard to match real life times, in F1 2011 it seems the tables have turned. In 2011 the Spa qualifying was slightly wet and so the lap times could have been faster, so it'd be more accurate to use a different year.

I'll use the 2010 qualifying because it is the closest to 2011, the fastest time there was 1:45.778 (off the F1.com website). In F1 2011 I can get 1:44s at the most. So I'd say that the game is pretty close to reality.

I also seriously doubt that the people who got 1:30s didn't use the 11/11 setup or exploit corner cutting (to the extent the game allows). Even if they didn't do this they'd still be part of a minority of super fast aliens. I would recommend measuring real life performances against your own performances, instead of using other people.

Also, at different tracks there are different results, in tracks such as Monaco, Singapore and Interlagos it is easy to get a lap time that is much faster then what is possible in real life. But at other tracks (Spa for example, at least for me) it is much more closer to real life.

Thanks for your answer.

I'm a beginner .... so my lap times are really bad (on Spa my best laptime is 2.01) ...

I was just trying to understand how much close to reality this game is.

Thanks

Trust me, you'll get better with practice. I was s*** at this game when I first got it. But now I can play with all aids off (except driving line, but hopefully that'll go to) on legend A.I. The game's really fun on any difficulty and it gets better as you progress.

It's a bit off, but that mostly because of the corner cutting the game allows in comparison to real life. 1:08s are possible at Montreal and Monaco, while 1:13s are realistic times. At least half of this 5 second gap is because of the corner cutting, and the rest of it is simply because I'm faster then all the F1 drivers ;)

Well, 1.09 without cornercutting is pretty much possible in Montreal - even tho I'm usually in the 1.10s. :P

Often I'll be 1-2 seconds faster than the real life pole laps in my Force India career game (Sometimes more) but on Legend difficulty it's still a very close battle for pole position. In my first season in Malaysia I got absolutely destroyed by the AI in qualifying, only placing 14th on the grid, but my time was 3 seconds faster than Vettel's 2011 pole time. This was with one of the quick setups that the game provides, go figure.

The game is good, but the cars are too fast in the game which is designed to flatter the player and make them think they are as fast as an F1 driver.

Wouldn't qualifying 14th be seen as normal considering you're in a Force India.

Yes, but considering that time is near impossible in real life in a car from the same year, and the fact I was a second quicker than the AI in Monaco...

Sorry, I thought you meant the competitiveness level relative to your A.I rivals.

Dont forget that in a game, there isnt the danger of death like there is in real life. In a game, you can take far more risks and push harder than any driver would in reality.

That's the problem with all Codies games - Low res with quincunx AA that blurs the image- Its impossible to drive with no driving line because you can't see the corners coming up!👎

I never use driving line and I always find the racing line and I'm an average skilled player.

I haven't noticed that problem either.

About the realism, it's not quite there, especially when it comes to AI. In a 50% race on expert at Monaco, I just got a grand slam (pole, win, fastest lap, led all laps). However, even more ridicolous, I lapped every car. They really need to step it up when it comes to the AI. This result is just annoying.

The only thing worse then this is Jenson Button's luck so far in my second career season. He's retired from ALL 6 races so far from punctures! How is that even possible?

I've done 2 100% races at Monaco now. Most or all the front running teams cars have retired from punctures both times. Similar things happen at Singapore. One of them retired right in front of me after I made my first pitstop, he just slowed down and pulled off down the escape road, just for a puncture.

Yeah it seems like 3-6 cars manage to puncture their tires every race. In my career it's usually 3/4 of the McLarens/Mercedes cars, 1 Williams, and one random car (more often a Red Bull, Ferrari, or Sauber).

Seems really weird. Over the radio I hear 'Seb has punctured his tire, he's coming into the pits this lap.' Then a lap later they'll tell me he's stopped the car. It's very weird, why can't he just drive back to the pits?

Also, at Red Bull I've had a brief KERS problem almost every race. It's a really fun yet annoying game :)

I recently did a race at south korea. I had trouble finding a suitable/reliable brake marker for the long straights. I`d constantly brake late and spear off ahead in a cloud of tyre smoke in practice (high brake pressure setting is my nemensis). I sorted myself out by quali and managed to win the race.

Afterwards i youtube`d some onboard laps out of interest. The one that get`s me irate is alonso`s from 2011? maybe 2010. Anyway he is able to brake WAY later for turns 3 & 4 than i could hope for. For example I brake at the red mark on the left side wall heading to turn 3 (say 120-130 metres) and can reliably pull without locking and make the turn, IRL alonso is braking somewhere around the 75-80m mark!

Similar situation at turn 4 and on the pit straight 1st turn aswell.
Doesn`t seem right to me.

Cheers Phill
