I used TC with the controller simply due to my lack of controller skills lol. With the wheel I did a little testing of the TC and ABS, and noticed that it actually slows you down quite a lot, provided you're able to modulate the throttle and brake well enough without it. With TC and ABS on, I was significantly slower out of the corners than without, and my braking distances were longer too.

I'm a big fan of the marbles, they've been done so well in this game compared to other racing games that have them (Pcars I'm looking at you).

Had a pretty eventful first lap in my first race yesterday:

Hamilton got a grid penalty for a collision with Pérez in Q1 (it was really Pérez's fault; he clipped me while trying to go around me and cannoned into the path of Hamilton while trying to rejoin the circuit). He started sixth, but collided with Massa in the first corner; Massa was eliminated on the spot while Hamilton needed to pit with a puncture and damaged front wing.

Meanwhile, down my end of the grid, Kvyat and I had to take to the grass to avoid the stricken Massa, who was splayed perpendicular to the racing line. When we rejoined, Kvyat got clouted by Palmer - who had gone the other way around Massa - and was similarly eliminated. Palmer was penalised while I pitted for mediums at the team's suggestion.

The rest of the race was pretty uneventful for me as I tried to make the contra strategy work. I ran as high as ninth, but when I changed onto the super softs, I took too much life out of them trying to hold onto position and finished thirteenth out of fifteen, ahead of Palmer and Ericsson. Vettel won, with Verstappen second and Ricciardo third. I'm not sure what happened to Rosberg, who was leading up until the final stint, but finished fourth. After his puncture, Hamilton was eighth.

I've restarted my career tonight, shifting the AI difficulty from Hard up to Expert. I was winning races in the Manor before, so the hope is I will be in the right and realistic fight now... Though qualifying didn't bode well. I beat the practice programme time, but just wasn't enough to beat Haryanto.

The race was incredible though, I got a really good start and jumped up to 15th at the first corner. I passed Gutierrez in the final left hand turn to end lap 1 14th. There was then trouble ahead as Kvyat and Alonso tangled bringing out the safety car, and I stopped for medium tyres along with half the grid. So when the race restarted, we had a divided field with the front running cars needing to stop for soft tyres, whilst the tail end of the grid all had medium tyres set to go the rest of the race. Game on!

When the leaders started to make their pitstops, I found myself in 6th ahead of Ricciardo. I couldn't hold him back for long though, and I struggled to keep up with him. Then this happened:

Ricciardo got back past a lap or so later, but I was able to hang for 6th place! A lap more and Rosberg would surely have passed me, since I would have needed to go back to the standard fuel setting and he had soft tyres fitted. Brilliant race though despite defending more than attacking, and I just hope this wasn't just a fluke event (in terms of entertainment rather than the result - that was definitely all thanks to the strategy!).

So just done 100% race at Bahrain.

This is the race I realised I had made a mistake. At the start of the weekend.

I had a stint where I really needed to go to the end after 2 safety cars messed up my strategy. I only had new SS tyres. So I stopped twice and lost 5 positions overall.

The Manor's straight line speed from the Merc engine really shines at Monza - i got an amazing 4th there! But my TM Wehlein just finished outside the top 10.....this is where i think about turning the difficulty up to legend, but then again i really struggle on other tracks. Theres times were a damaged car can really hold up the AI,they dont pass them, and i can catch up that way on several occasions - i think codies need to look at that.

Singapore next,i had no pace at all - qualified in 20th,and i struggled to a 14th place finish, holding up a train of cars behind me as my tyres were in shreds near the end. There was two lengthy SC periods in that one.

Ive elected to hold on the R&D for the rest of the season for the 25% bonus. Ive completed the 2nd tier on all developments.

I may fully upgrade the car as much i can at the start of next season but notch it up to Legend.

I just made the best tyre stategy call ever. A HUGE slice of luck resulted in me winning my first race,at Suzuka, from 22nd on the grid in a Manor!!

So i chose to go Medium/Hard/Hard for the race, disregarding Softs. So a 2 stop long stinted race.

Lap 8,i go in for Hards, having climbed to 11th....then on Lap 16,a lap before i was going to back on the final Hards, there was a massive crash involving Hamilton & Grosjean on the 130R. Hamilton spun trying to overtake a Williams,Grosjean ploughed into him, going 30 foot up in the air! (worst AI crash ive seen)

So that brought the safety car out,i went in pits under the safety car to put on Hards - so i had 10 laps left of the race on them - however all the other cars that chose to go on softs had to make an extra pit stop - i was the only car that chose my 2x Hard tyre strategy. So the last 10 laps resulted in my overtaking the AI in the pits over various laps, with me getting the lead - and managing to hold off Bottas right at the end for a win of 0.6 secs!!

Was that just a really lucky tyre call and safety car timing?!!

Raced China last night, and I'm seriously glad I restarted my career now. I had a cracking race long battle with both of the Red Bulls after making a great start from 17th! I started on the softs whilst most of those outside of Q3 were on mediums, and of course the front runners were on super softs. I pitted for mediums later than the front runners so I had less tyre degradation in the latter stages. It allowed me to close in on Ricciardo and Verstappen having their own fight and dealing with Gutierrez before his stop. They held each other up at the hairpin, and as Ricciardo passed Verstappen down the start finish straight with DRS, I passed the both of them with a 3 car wide move into turn 1! I tried to catch Bottas after that, but a combination of needing to defend from the Red Bulls initially and some driver errors meant I settled for 6th!

Well a real life bolt of lightening has made me up the difficulty to legend.

Was in the USA gp last night in the Manor, was a full wet race - started in 10th and got myself up to 3rd. then i went into 1st as the top 2 pitted....the race dried up,and Raikonnen and Rosberg caught me on the last few laps,so i finished in 3rd. There was a thunder storm outside which blew my house electrics right before the game saved!!

But im thinking that is way too easy to get a podium in a Manor in the first season - so i will up it to Legend
,and re-run the race.

My craziest crash yet, Vettel goes for a flight after clipping my rear.

This is one of the most realistic crashes on a f1 game that i've ever seen.

Amazing physics. Damage model could be better but i know F1 dont want to see their cars completely destroyed on the game (and sponsors).

Just bought the game. Waiting for it to be delivered. Gonna be my 3rd F1 from codemasters. Loved 2010, hated 2011. I hated 2011 so much that i never went back to the franchise. This one is looking pretty good from those vids.

Had a great race a Monaco last night. Been really busy lately, so hadn't played the game in a while. Due to that, I was only up to Monaco in my career with Renault.

Thinking that Monaco is probably the worst track to come back to after a break, I thought I'd blow the rust off by using up plenty of the practice time. I spent about half of the practice time just running around the track getting myself back up to speed.

I went into quali not expecting much, just basically hoping to beat my team mate. I wasn't looking forward to what I expected to be a weak performance, and the team obviously shared my enthusiasm, as they told me it'd be hard to get out of q1.

My first lap in q1 was very average, and I wasn't at all happy with it. I had enough fuel for a few laps though, so I ran three laps more, and was slower on each subsequent one. Figuring I'd taken the best life out of the ultra softs, I pitted to take on another set (I had plenty because I went aggressive on tyre choice). I looked at the times, and was surprised to see I was only .04 of a second behind Magnussen. We were both looking to be eliminated from q1 though, and I knew if I hooked it up there was plenty left on the table, so I went back out on new ultras. I managed to hook up a good lap, and took 1.3 seconds off my time, which landed me firmly into q2, which I was more than happy with.

There were some strange results in q1 which surprised me, watching the timing screens. Vettel must have either crashed, or had a car issue, because he had set just one lap, and it was very slow compared to Raikkonen, which actually led to Vettel being eliminated in q1. The other oddities were Haryanto and Wehrlein both easily got through to q2, although Manor had brought a number of updates to Monaco which put their development level with us and Force India, so it wasn't entirely odd.

Q2 came along, and I was already happy with just being there, but was hoping to go faster than at least the Manors, and was wondering if anyone would try using the super softs, as a number of drivers had in q1. I put together a very fast lap straight up, and then went to the pits to watch the timing screens. I was surprised to see not a lot of cars beating my time, and by the end of the session I was 8th and through to q3!

In q3, I was wondering if the Mercs would find some performance, as they had been struggling a little in q1 and q2, being close to Raikkonen, but behind both Red Bull and Toro Rosso. Kvyat couldn't manage a decent lap, and ended up behind both Mercs and Raikkonen, who himself had split the Mercs. However, I was ahead of them all in fourth, Sainz was ahead of me, and Red Bull took a front row lockout, with Verstappen on pole.

The race started very cleanly, and I managed to get ahead of Sainz before the end of lap one. The two Red Bulls pulled away initially, but after several laps I started to reel them back in. Just when I started to think they had tyre wear issues, and my car was better on the tyres, I checked my own wear to find my rear tyres were wearing much faster than the fronts. Given the Renault's bad tendency to understeer, and my preference for oversteer, I was getting faster because of the tyre grip balance changing to oversteer over the course of the stint. I used this to my advantage, and managed to dispatch of both Ricciardo and Verstappen before my pit stop on lap 15 (50% race). The rears were pretty bad by lap 15, particularly the right rear, so I pitted as soon as my pit window opened, instead of extending the stint as I was planning to.

My second stint was meant to be the last, but I knew my tyre wear would be on the limit, so I faced a choice: Either go flat out and make a late stop for ultra soft (still had a new set left, again thanks to my aggressive tyre choice), or control the pace and make the tyres last. I had a 9 second gap to Verstappen, so I decided to take it easy initially, but after a few laps I saw that Verstappen had very good pace, so I upped my pace to control the gap at around 10 seconds. Unfortunately, my tyres were wearing at a rate I couldn't sustain without pitting again, so I decided to go all out and make another stop. Verstappen's pace was very close to my own, even when I was pushing, so I only managed to build the gap to 12 seconds before I decided to pit again with 8 laps to go.

Verstappen took the lead, but I still managed to slot into second ahead of Alonso, who had taken a lot of places due to a fortunately timed VSC right as he needed to pit, which slowed down many cars which had already pitted from ahead of him. Over the next few laps, I took big chunks of time out of Verstappen, setting fastest lap after fastest lap, and when I caught him I was quickly past, his worn super softs giving him no chance of defending against me on much fresher ultra softs. His pace then dropped off dramatically, so I'm guessing he needed to conserve tyres and/or fuel heavily to make it to the end on his one stop strategy, so by the end of the race, I had managed to build up the 12 second gap I had over him before I had made my second stop.

In the end, I was pretty stoked with the result, and the battles I had during the race were really good, with the AI cars not yielding so easily like they used to pre-patch, but still racing cleanly. Still, the Renault is still far behind most teams in development (currently fifth from the bottom), so I'm not expecting the performance of the car to allow me to fight for wins like this at many other circuits.

Going the final race of the first season - and Rosberg leads Raikonnen by just 6 points! Hamilton is 4th and well out of it - didnt expect that.

Im going to have around 4000 points to spend on upgrades for the 2nd season, hopefully can get amongst the midfield teams in performance after that.

I finally came back to the game today since school holidays have started, and I am running v1.5.0 after downloading the most recent updates. Am I the only one who has noticed a drop in the graphics quality? During races, my car no longer displays a number and my helmet is a blurry mess.

So, first attempt: Räikkönen pushed me into the wall.

Second attempt: Grosjean pushed me into the wall.

Third attempt: Wehrlein pushed me into a spin.

Fourth attempt: Vettel pushed me into a spin - on my in-lap - and I got disqualified for going the wrong way when I tried to rejoin the circuit.

Not to me, but what you play on could be the difference.

Wow, Codies using UDP to enable companion apps on console, someone's been paying attention to their competition! I was wondering how long it would take for this idea to catch on with other devs, as it was one of my favourite things about Pcars on console.

If anyone from Codies is watching this thread, bloody good on you guys! This has increased my respect for the studio. Now just include this feature in Dirt, or the next Dirt at least, and your new project with Evo, please

Rosberg won the first season - narrowly beating Raikonnen. I finished in 9th. Torro Rosso got strong mid season but then faded, and Force India started to look strong.

I have about 4K to spend on upgrades for the 2nd season, but ive decided to do ONE upgrade per race to keep it realisitic.

I did Australia last night - same exact result as last season - 14th!

BUT i was 2 seconds quicker on my fastest lap...

Finally had a clean race in Australia, and wound up finishing twelfth.

AI was surprisingly slow in Bahrain, particularly through Turn 4. Ran in sixth for most of the race thanks to some collisions, and even led the race during the pitstop phase. I finished eighth after chewing through my tyres and was caught on the last lap.

Question: how do I get offers from other teams to switch mid-season?

You have to have been promoted to first driver and are performing well above expectations. If your just loooking for the trophy, that can be done quickly in the Pro Championships by starting in the Mercedes and drop out of the first five or so races....demotion to the worst team.

Great, thanks. I'm currently Manor's second driver, but thrashing Wehrlein; he was my first rival, but I had won the rivalry by the end of qualifying in Shanghai. I'm considering starting over on a higher difficulty setting, especially since I found it incredibly easy in Bahrain.

I do like getting achievements, but only through playing the game properly, as it were.

I want to start with Manor (or maybe Sauber), move to McLaren and win championships there.
