My guess is that Fanatec just choose the wrong reflection colours on the shiny side of the wheelbase.

Another possiblity is that this wheelbase will be compatible with next gen consoles as soon as Sony / Microsoft allow it

Thomas already confirmed (somewhere in the fanatec blog) that this could be possible through a security chip in the rim if needed

We will know soon :-)

I am still wondering if full reveal will be #1 or #0 :dopey:

It makes sence that Fanatec would be first up with a full cross platform wheel. This is an advantage they have had and ironically the opportunity is still open.

I've heard the RFID chips aren't cheep and market data suggest that most consumers have "1.5 game platforms" so bigger companies might not see the advantage. But Thomas knows the long game... And he knows as a smaller "hands on guy" he needs to come on strong to market share.

So is it a direct drive wheel? Maybe, is it cross console compatable? Very likely... That's where the bigger sales are. Is it both? Now that's a statement.

Exactly.

My old Motorola Smartphone is no longer compatible to the latest Android OS. Should I complain to Motorola?

When we developed the Xbox 360 wheels not even MS or Sony knew the final specs of the new consoles. How should WE know more than the console makers and make our wheels future proof?

If it would be so damneasy to make the old peripherals (not just wheels) compatible, why is not any other big brand doing that? You could sell a lot of adapters if there would be a legal way to do so.

We did what we could and at least you will be able to use all your accessories like shifters, pedals, handbrake, etc.

With this post you have lost me as a customer. You failed to convince me that you´ve tried hard enough to make my CSW next gen compatible and I am not going to repeat my mistake by buying your nextGen stuff.

Well, feel free to buy a wheel from any of the other brands whose older wheels are confirmed to work on the latest consoles. I think it's less the fault of the wheel manufacturers and more an indictment of the console platforms. If you want consistent compatibility you need to be on PC. Which sucks for me too because the racing games I enjoy the most are on consoles.

Perhaps you should direct a little more of your disappointment towards Sony. Ultimately it is their system and they set the rules. Fanatec has to make the best decision based on Sony's rules.

Let's say Fanatec goes through the trouble of making a driver for the PS4, and PD decides not to integrate it into GT7. Considering GT sells roughly >5MM copies per title... that is a lot of potential sales Fanatec misses out on. If they are not there at launch, they are basically handing sales to Thrustmaster. If Fanatec makes a new wheel that is guaranteed to work with all games on current gen systems... that is a safer, more logical bet.

I am not saying you/we should not be disappointed or upset, but we should also not let that emotion override the reasonable context of the situation.

I was a bit angry when I read that post the first time so I may be missed this part. So you say we can at least use our CSP pedals and CSS Shifter with the new wheel on PS4? That is at least a good news. I thought we can throw all our stuff away and have to buy pedals, shifters and everything else new.

agreed

the most reaosnable purchase are probably cheap easily replacable, or should I say disposable wheels. the expensive stuff did not make me faster anyway.

Next gen wheels cost an arm and a leg, so i guess the new Fanatec one will be around the 400€ price mark also. Not paying twice the price for a console just so i can have compatibility thank you very much, although i do agree Sony and MS are to blame for this and not Fanatec as their hands are tied.

That does make economic sense. The Driving Force GT is probably the best "disposable" wheel made, in my opinion. I think it's a product that deserves to get upgraded for the new consoles, especially if they can hit $150 USD.

The next "cheapest" options are from Thrustmaster. I know they're trying to build a mid-tier ecosystem around the TX and T300 wheels, but the current packages don't make it all that viable. Perhaps down the line if they consider offering everything a la carte it'll make sense. If I bought a TX package I'd like to be able to buy a bare bones T300 base and just swap my wheel and pedals over.

Then at the high end of the console-compatible wheels we'll presumably have Fanatec's new servomotor base and accessories. Not a cheap option at all, but at least I'll recoup my investment in ClubSport Pedals and Shifter SQ.

If it is really a next gen wheel, I wonder if it will also support last gen? At least PS3? Because I want to let the option open to go back to GT6 sometimes. Because I am pretty hyped now and was planning to get the CSW Base so I guess I will order this new one and sell my well working GT2 wheel.

Why would you make a servo wheel only for PS4? There is like one racing game on it. What the ever lovin Fudge

What do you mean by only for PS4? I understand your sentence that you think it will only support PS4, no PC or any other platform.
That is not the case.

Who wants to play another horrible GT game with another round of broken promises anyway. Who seriously still cares?! :odd:

I'd say go PC only and enjoy the big titles in the simulation world. iRacing, Assetto Corsa, Project CARS, rFactor 2... etc. Plus you'll have more mods than you could ever dream of.

Sony is turning this into their own failure, and Microsoft isn't doing any better either.

If you'd have to pay 1000 dollars to buy a console and a new wheel, or buy a 1000 dollar PC on which all your gear is supported and than some more... plus an endless amount of racing games (with mods!).
Personally I would say 'too hell!' with Sony and Microsoft.

Buying a console and a wheel < buying PC and a wheel. It is that simple.

Why would you need a new wheel for PC, as ALL LEGACY WHEELS WORK ON PC. :banghead:
In other words you'd only need a new PC in contrast to a console and a new mandatory wheel.

I just want the best wheel for GT7 but I hope that some day I will be able to buy a PC. The last time I bought a PC, I was student, it was in 1998... Since I start to work and get married, have three daughters... So no money for a PC (but a ps4 is also a blue ray player so I successfully insert it in the family budget ;) ). I play rFactor2 on an old PC my father gives to me. So I would be happy to have a future proof wheel that allows me to use my current setup.

Now that makes more sense. ;)
One wouldn't want a grumpy other half at all, that's for sure. :P

I would recommend waiting for GT7 before buying a new wheel. The reason being that a more powerful wheel with the current weight transfer effect can cause heavy uncontrollable oscillation. It can be controlled by PD via internal knobs if they officially support a wheel. But than... they have to support the wheel first, if you know what I mean.

Or, or hear me out here. Make a couple more, sell on the black market, PROFIT!

Bah... typical American. :P Only thinks about the short term profit. lol
If you'd be a European you'd think about the long term profit opportunities. For example... Raise them till they are at a legal age, and than be their pimp.

Jokes aside. I would never hurt my kids, sell them, pimp them or any of those awefull things.
A child is much more valuable than anything materialistic, to have them love you back with a smile and a kiss to say goodnight... and all those little things during day to day life, nothing can replace that. :)
