Hey Thomas, today is tomorrow :D
Looking forward to a new high class, cross platform wheel.

Ok so it is CSW V2... Not a direct drive wheel I guess (some have seen it on Fanatec.de)...

A single brushless motor but still with a belt ? Ok, go back to bed trying to sleep and waiting for the official announcement.

Thomas, do you realize that I dream about the new wheel ? That is a little too much for me :)

The iRacing thread has a bunch of photos which people managed to take from the depths of the Fanatec website... And it seems that people with CSW v1 bases on order are being sent emails about the new base. Direct replacement?

The ClubSport Wheel Base V2 - Servo Power and multi platform
  • The day has come and I am proud to show you the brand new ClubSport Wheel Base V2.

    69dbcfc69547d7e81719d9f15548f4.png

Although it looks familiar to you it has almost no part which has not been modified or replaced to make it a better base.

    Our
focus was durability, durability, durability and then performance. And
while we made a radical re-design, we decided to make an offer nobody
    can refuse.

The smoothness, vividness and precision of a Direct Drive wheel combined with a torque increase of
about 75% and (optional) compatibility to the latest gaming
consoles. And all that with a moderate price increase.

    Here are the details:

    7 Ultra Precise
    We
replaced the optical sensor with two magnetic high resolution hall
sensors mounted on both the motor and the steering axis. The new sensors have double
the resolution and the magnetic sensore are less vulnerable to dust or scratched
    code discs.

    6 Smoothastic
    The cogging of this system
cannot be felt by a human anymore. It is incredible smooth and feels
natural and realistic. It is on par or better with the best and most
expensive wheel out there although those wheels costs a multiple of the
    CSW B V2.
Every little bump can be felt and effects which were
filtered by the wheel mechanics can now be felt. Your racing simulations
will feel different and new to you.

    5 Rock Solid
Our focus was to achieve high durability even for hardcore users.
    • Improved QR release with rubber o-ring and less tolerance in production
    • A brushless motor which can be cooled much easier as it gets hot on the outside and not on the inside so heat can be transfered better
    • New cooling system featuring an additional fan on the backside right behind the new huge heat sink
    • Integrated heat sensor inside the motor

Motor can now even be operated at 180 C° although the FOR overclocking would be de-activated already at 120 C° and FF would shut down at 130°C.
The motor has plenty of power so most people will not use max settings
anyway. And during betatests it never happened that a motor was shut down or the FF was cut due to overheating.
    • Ball bearings on the motor axis and bigger ball bearings
inside the pulleys so we can increase the belt tension and avoid any belt
slip. At the same time we have much less drag in the system.
    • Magnetic sensors instead of the optical so we avoid problems with dust and scratches
    • New main cable
    • New electronics
    • And many other small improvements to the overall build quality

    4 Power. A lot.
    The
new motor is custom designed and exclusive to Fanatec. Although the
gear ratio has been changed to increase the rotation speed, it delivers
about 75% more torque than the CSW B V1. This means over 7 NM of sheer
power and this is enough to use even heavy rims with no disadvantages.
The size of the power supply has also increased in order to feed the big motor.

    3 Brushless Servo
    A
brushless servo motor is currently state-of-the-art for force feedback
systems and in principle this is exactly the same motor as the most
expensive direct drive base units out there.
    • Smooth performance with no cogging (in combination with our Poly-V belt drive system or direct drive)
    • Easier to cool as the heat is on the outside of the motor and not on the motor shaft
    • Strong axis with ball bearings
    • Optimized for use in stall at max power
    • Fast acceleration
    • More efficiency -> more torque with same power

    We
had to develop entire new electronics for that motor as the motor
driver is quite complex. Now that it is done we can easily use it for
smaller brushless motors or a direct drive wheel.

    2 Next Generation
The ClubSport Wheel Base V2 is the next generation of ourwheel base but there is also a strong demand of wheels for “Next-Gen” consoles. People
were asking us to make their wheels compatible to the Xbox One and
Playstation 4 but if we want to make it official and legal then we need
to follow the rules of the console makers and they clearly do not allow
    that.
So how can we make a product where there is a chance that the
customer can keep at least most of the equipment he purchased? We can
easily make the pedals, shifters and handbrake compatible and this is
what we did but what about the base unit?
And how can we make a
product multi-platform compatible if we can only get approval for a
license if the product has only the symbols of either one console on it?
    We
came up with an idea which brings modularity to a whole new level and
protects your investment. If you play on PC then just go ahead and
purchase the wheel base as it is and you will not be bothered with
symbols which might hurt your eye.
But if you want to enjoy the painless
simplicity of a console with its great exclusive racing simulations then
you will get the option to buy an optional steering wheel which will
add full console compatibility to this base.

    We want to achieve
compatibility to both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and we are happy to
announce that we already signed a contract with one of them. We will
announce this product at the end of this year.
    There will be multiple
steering wheels available in different price ranges and they will
compatible to several Fanatec base units from mid-range to direct drive.

    1 By Invitation Only
    The
great response we get from our beta testers lead us to the conclusion
that the demand for this product will be much bigger than the supply. Production output will be lower as before as we spend even more time on quality control and testing.
    At
the same time we want to honor the loyalty of our existing customers
and want to offer a special pre-order discount for the owners of the
current ClubSport and CSR Elite base so that they can enjoy a little
    upgrade advantage.
    This is how it works:
    • We will send an e-mail to our webshop customers with an invite code. There will be several waves of e-mails in the next months.
    • Only after you entered the code to your profile page you will be able to purchase or pre-order this product
    • After you purchased one V2 base you will receive a second code. You can give that to a friend or buy a second base.

Only one code will be given with a purchase as we want to avoid that
people are selling their products or invites on eBay and make money with
    it.
    • We will also give away invites in giveaway events so
frequent followers of the blog or Facebook will also get a chance to get
    an invite

This is the priority we will use for the invites to make it as fair and transparent as possible.
    1. Webshop customers of the CSW B V1 and CSR E (sorted by purchase date)
    2. Webshop customers of other ClubSport products like CSP or CSS
    3. All other Fanatec customers

Of course we will treat all territories with the same priority.

    Not
every customer will use his invite so go ahead and ask your friends if
they use their invite of if they give it to you in case you are not on
the list yet. It is possible and welcome to transfer invite codes.

    Please
do not ask our sales team for invites. They are not authorized to give
out codes anyway. If it is your turn then you will get an e-mail. We
will open a thread in our forum which explains more details and where
you can also ask for invites from other members.

    By the way, all
lucky customers who placed a pre-order for the old V1 base just got a
free upgrade to V2 and they are the first to receive the new product.

Price remains reasonnable 👍 ... and the wheel seems sweet.

I just noticed that PS3 compatibility is not clearly mentionned but the fact that v1 pre-orders will be automatically upgraded makes it 99.9 % likely.

So from the next-gen portion: do I understand it correctly that more (and cheaper) wheel bases will be released later with PS4/XOne support?

It looks great, and kudos to Fanatec and Thomas for pushing things with regards to quality and craftsmanship. Alas, it is simply out of my financial reach, I assume you need to buy pedals and the actual wheel on top of the €500 base. It is simply not feasible for me.

There must be a huuuuge market for a quality wheel and pedal set, with compromises obviously for price, but coming in between £150 and £250. A cross between the DFGT and G25/27. I know they aren't up to the standard of Fanatec devices, but for the money they allowed me a taste of aim racing without my better half castrating me.

With all good consciousness I can't blow £500-700 on a peripheral. More power to those who can though.

The web shop looks a bit strange currently for the clubsport range:
- pedals
- shifters
- wheel rims
- hub and rims

... but no base to attach all that

Looks fantastic, and I hope I get an invite as a previous Clubsport customer (although I've only just purchased the pedals) as I was about to order a CSW but now it looks as though I'll have to wait.

If anyone gets an invite code they don't intend on using, can I put my hand up and ask for it? Maybe we should keep a running list of those who would like codes and if the people here who have bought a CSW already and don't intend on upgrading get a code it can go to the people on the list so they don't have to wait.

Ok so it sounds like the original clubsport base will work with PS4 also? And if I bought my clubsport last year would I still get an email?

I can´t imagine a wheel base

For me the same. 500€ just for the base is insane. But somehow I want it, no matter how :D

I have the Fanatec GT2 and the CS Pedals already. So a base and a wheel is needed. But I guess I have to wait till the end of the year because if I buy the base now, I have to wait for the PS4 compatible wheel anyway.

I have a few fanatec products (gt2rs, CSP, csr-e) , but being from Australia be I wasn't able to by them through fanatecs webshop as t it didn't exist in Australia at the time, the only thing I have purchased from the webshop is a CSS SQ (still on pre-order). Will this hinder my chances of getting an invite?

Edit: I hav also recently purchased a csr-e formula rim but as that's not actually sold in Australia at all I had to get a friend in another country to put the order through for me.

Great announcement IMO and good way to get round the next-gen console issue. Now I'll keep my Xbox One...and of course see how quickly I can get a V2 base :)
This could also be good for others wanting to start upgrading as I guess there will be a lot of CSW V1 bases for sale soon ;)

Hopefully not, I'm hoping my Clubsport pedals get me an invite. If I get one I'll give my second code to you. I'm thinking of buying a rim now and hoping that will aid my chances too.

I wonder how long it will go on for like that until they just make it open to everyone..

Excellent news. As a past CSR-E purchaser I'm very happy to say I'll be moving back to Fanatec with this announcement. Had to purchase a Thrustmaster TX & T500 for my next gen console fix (although I still use my clubsport pedals with an adaptor) but this announcement means I can once again own a single wheel that serves all my needs. Well done Thomas once again.

The blog mentioned only one console license has so far been acquired, no guarantee whatsoever that they will actually get the second one. We can hope... But it might take a while :)

I'd hope it's MS first so we can enjoy Forza 5. There's no racers on PS4 yet anyway and personally I dont have high hopes for Drive Club

Did I read something right? At the bottom does it say I get the new csw v2 for free because I pre ordered the other one?

EDIT
lol..I said no..but the answer is yes if you have a CSW base on pre-order right now, you get the new base instead
oh. I miss understood then. I preordered the original csw before it came out. I didn't realize you still needed to pre order the csw base.
I thought that sounded to good to be true and wondered why they were doing that.

I was going to give my original csw base away on here with a contest if that was the case.

Ok, about the "nearly as good as a direct drive wheel" comparison.... I found two threads discussing rated torque:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...e-modders-thread-update-february-2014.274631/
http://isiforums.net/f/showthread.p...R-Elite-wheels?p=243574&viewfull=1#post243574

Now EKretz reckons 20mNm per motor, the second thread is 37.3mNm for the CSWv1, let's assume this second number is the realistic peak rated torque level:
  • A CSWv1/CSW-Elite produces a peak rated torque of 74.6 mNm (2x37.3 mNm) with combined rated 10.8 Watt (21.6 Watts effectively) motors.
  • EKretz is using modded Buhler motors in his CSWv1 modification with peak rated torque of 120 mNm (2x60mNm)
  • A Thrustmaster T500RS produces peak rated torque of 150 mNm with a single rated 47 Watt motor.
  • A Leo Bodnar wheel produces peak rated torque of 16 Nm (16,000 mNm) with a single rated 500Watt motor.

But what about effective torque at the rim:
  • EKretz measured stock motors @24VDC pulled 8.5 pounds@~5.38"R. So about 3.8 lbs./ft. (5.2 Nm) of torque.
  • With his modded Buhler motors @24VDC pulled 14.5 pounds@~5.38"R. or 6.5lbs./ft. (8.8Nm), but only 6.6Nm comfortably within the capabilities of the original power supply.
  • Via a TechAde post: G27 0.68kg * 0.45m = 3.0Nm
  • And likewise: T500RS 1.38kg * 0.45m = 6.0Nm
So the Fanatec announcement post read: "about 75% more torque than the CSW B V1. This means over 7 NM of sheer power and this is enough to use even heavy rims with no disadvantages"
  • 75% more torque out of a single motor would be ~75*1.75= 130 mNm (this puts it almost equal with the Thrustmaster T500/T300 motor rating)
  • This equates to an end result at the rim of pulling 7Nm instead of the 5.2Nm which EKretz originally measured from the stock wheel.

Anyway, assuming the belts are configured to be more direct (since there's no more cogging from the brushless motor), I get that we could have a more direct feel. But it still looks like the motor will be rated for 100x less torque than the Bodnar, won't it?
