wheels for the DD1.

what is the difference in the universal hub and its button layout and the clubsport GT?
they look to be the same in the pictures.

i cant imagine that i would change my rim very often. if you driving a F1 car does an F1 rim make a difference in how it steers?
if your playing sat dirt really the club sport would work great for that wouldn't it?

i guess what im asking should it get the universal hub and the gt rim. or just get the gt rim all in one
thanks

You actually NEED the Universal Hub to mount the GT Rim on the Hub. How would you mount the GT Rim otherwise ..?
And yes, the difference between the Formula Rim and the GT Rim is massive when you drive open wheel cars so you should pick both the Formula Rim and the Hub with GT Rim if you drive both, Formula cars and GT/Road cars. It's quite uncomfortable to drive a formula car with the heavy and big GT Rim. The Formula Rim is a lot smaller so you can react faster and it weights less which results in better and more direct FFB. But on the other hand you can't drive a Road car with a Formula Rim properly because you can't really drift with a formula Rim.. So yes, you should get both :)

Trying to make the decision whether to pull the trigger on a Clubsport 2.5 wheel base for $ 500 vs. holding out for the DD1 for $1000. Is the DD1 really going to justify the $ 500 premium or is the Club Sport going to be "excellent enough" for most people. It's hard to judge because I'll never get to test these wheels out back to back unless I attend the yearly expo in Germany which is unlikely to happen.

My philosophy is often to ask yourself this: Will you regret not buying? If you buy the CSW will you regret not buying a DD? If you buy a DD will you regret not buying a CSW? One thing I can say is that the CSW has more moving parts and therefore more prone to wear. If you race very often it would be best to get a DD. If you end up playing less then 5 hours a week I would opt for the CSW though.

But it also depends on your budget ofcourse.

Maybe tomorrow some news about the ps4 dd1? :)

@Poketzeven - I agree with your reasoning. I probably play 5 hours or less per week ... with a full-time job & other hobbies I find it's hard to carve out more time than that.

I recently re-discovered sim racing and I really enjoy it ... I grew up on console racers and it's amazing how far the technology has come. I started off with a "starter set" with a Logitech G920 & Playseat Challenge but I just returned both because I wanted a more responsive wheel & pedals. Since I'm playing on an XBox One X I've decided to go with the McLaren wheel rim, the Clubsport V3 pedals, and the RSeat Formula V2 F1-style cockpit. My last decision is whether to wait for the DD1 or just pick up the Clubsport v2.5. Would I regret not having the DD1? Probably not... but in the long term I can afford the $ 500 difference and it seems - from a technological standpoint - to be in a different league than the Clubsport that uses mechanical bands/pulleys.

Based on the online reviews I've seen on the Clubsport 2.5 I'm sure I would be happy with it... it's just a question of whether the DD1 is a little more future-proof.

Also - just an aside - but after spending so much time researching the various wheels, pedals, cockpits, etc ... it's pretty crazy how many manufacturers are out there and also that there are enough customers willing to pay $ 1000-1500 for a wheel base. Considering most people just play games on their iPhones these days it's pretty impressive that there are enough hard-core sim racers out there to support this industry.

In your situation I would be enclined to say the CSW should be sufficient. I have seen videos that the csw and DD arent far off from each other. Both wheels are futureproof in the sense that they should run on the same software and the perpherals are all compatible. To make it easier, If you cant justify the cost now, you can easily upgrade to the DD, keeping all the perpherals. The CSW can be resold for a good price to fund that upgrade. And if you end up being very happy with the CSW you will be happy you saved 500.

i have the DD1 Preordered. i sometimes think of getting the CSW instead. let the DDW mature a little.
the the CSW wheels you had all the revisions. i hate to spend 1k on a on the Direct drive then 6 months or a year later they have a way better one

Well that’s always the way it is, they will be coming out with better, stronger motors because people always want more and sometimes software alone is not enough to deliver better FFB, better road feel or maybe cooler running motors, at least they will be $1000 DD wheels and not $3000 plus like the Bodnar systems.

Ha - I agree @OptiMystik.

Since there is no advantage of a DD wheel over the ClubSport V2.5 in terms of lap times, the question is whether the added realism of having a smoother/stronger wheel is worth the extra $ 500 which I guess is a question that each consumer has to decide for themselves.

Is there any advantage to waiting for Black Friday/Cyber Monday considering all of the gear I will be buying will be from Germany (Fanatec) & Bulgaria (RSeat) ? Do European companies even run sales around this time or do they wait until xmas?

I can't justify a DD for console use. Since I made the jump from console to PC, I had found that the CSW 2.5 works way better, and the global FFB is night and day. I am more than happy that Fanatec offers DD for both console, but in my opinion spending more than 1k for a wheel that can't take full advantage on their strengths on console is a waste. On PC, DD is the way to go.

For me the CSW V2.5 or even the CSL are more than enough on console.

Just to make clear, I wasn't 100% satisfied with CSW (still the best belt driven wheel by miles) and I bought a OSW. What a DD, and I expect also the Podium series, can give si amazing.

@DomB_Fanatec - is your company planning on releasing an F1-style wheel for the XBox One in the near future or should I just go ahead and purchase the McLaren wheel?

@KimiRaikkonen Right now I'm playing on an XBox One X but I plan on buying a dedicated gaming PC some time in the next year... that's whey I'm having such a tough time deciding between the CSW 2.5 & the upcoming DD1.

While it's true that you're likely to extract the most potential out of an FFB device on PC, many people like the convenience of having a control system that can also work on a console if the mood takes them. Direct drive is certainly very effective on console as well; one could argue that the jump in immersion level from 'reduction drive' (belts or gears) to direct drive increases by the same (relative) amount whether you make the comparison on a console or a PC.

Unfortunately I am not permitted to reveal such information.

@DomB_Fanatec can you tell us about the mounting options for the DD1/2? It appears it is strictly a "bottom up" mounting in stock form, but I've not seen a pic of the bottom of the base to confirm this. Will there be a mounting bracket such this included?

The csw 2.5 is over 1k and csl elite i bought for console had me questioning spending 700ish which is close enough to 1k. Im glad i did over the tgt at the same price with no load cell, that would of been crae crae.
Bring on this DD, my CC is ready!

when you have DDW with the pedals shifter and handbrake. will if work with games the Forza horizon 3 and 4. fanatic stuff the compatible with
everything like thrustmaster right.

the mounting of it will be a standard affair i would think right? nothing special . except you cant mount it like an osw right. it only mounts on the side and bottom.

thanks

IMO, it depends on developers and their targets of portation: balance of visuals and mechanics. I find FFB of AC on PS4 and PC quite similar, but pCars 2 versions were "night and day" (at least last year).

Forcefeedback Update rate on ps4 is only half from pc version of assetto corsa. It feels completely diffrent to me. Much quiker response, much smoother ffb and more detail on pc.

The bottom mounts use the same three-hole patterm as the CSL and ClubSport wheel bases. Actually there are two additional holes that can be used on the bottom as well. It is not strictly bottom mounted, in fact the ideal mounting solution is the side mounts - this has been shown in all the demonstrations of the base so far. We are planning to sell the gold coloured side brackets as an optional accessory. There is no bracket in the box, but we may offer different bracket solutions depending on demand.

That's correct.

That is good to know!
And what about front mounting? Can one of those screws/holes on the front of the DD wheel bases be used for that purpose?
I was using CSW 2.5 front-mounted on a Sim-Lab rig and was very stable. Saves some leg room space.

The Podium wheel bases aren't designed to be front mounted. (The ClubSport wheel base was also not designed to be front mounted and we don't recommend it). The holes are intended for Fanatec accessories (like the Static Shifter Paddles) only. Bear in mind that the Podium bases are much heavier and much more powerful than the ClubSport bases, as well as being longer (in depth), which would put additional strain on a front mount.

Ok, thanks a lot for the clarification! I am convinced.

Anyone interested in a front-mounting bracket for a Sim-Lab rig? PM me :D
