Fanatec Teases PlayStation Related Piece of Hardware

I hope that this new Playstation related product will be available right after the announcement.

I am really not a big fan of this ridiculous "modern" communication that tries to justify that it makes sense to tease that in two weeks a company will announce that they will release a product 6 months later.

From the FANATEC BLOG...

"All your steering wheels will work fine with our new PS4 wheel so there is no need to invest again. Shifters, pedals and handbrake will work fine as well."

All your steering wheels will work fin with our new PS4 wheel so there is...???? How does all our wheels work on a PS4 wheel? Did Thomas forget to put in the word "base" in that sentence?

If it's indeed a PS4 wheel base, I hope it's on par or better than a current V2 or V2.5. CSL type items need not apply on my rig. LOL

Was wondering how the new "wheel" would work with existing "wheels" myself.

CSW V2.5 specs or better. Is that so hard to ask for? ;)
Or atleast have more than one PS4 offering something like CSW v2/2.5 and a direct drive wheel, but I'm not confident we'll see the direct drive one next week, probably at E3 showcasing it with GT Sport since they got Sony licensing now, but Fanatec could give us a surprise we will just have to wait and see next week

I'd think most people plan that at some point their hardware is going to become obsolete, it's just a way of life with technology. The G25/27 has been going for what, 7-8 years now? I'd say that's a pretty good run before becoming obsolete in today's throw-away-economy. But at some point it's time it's going to be time to upgrade, whether that's due to actual obsolescence or forced obsolescence it's going to happen. In the last 8 years I've probably replaced 80-90% of all tech in my house, including 100% of my sim racing gear.

Nope, I was being dead serious. If you can score a PS4, three wheels, and a set of shifters for less than $40 that's pretty freaking impressive and I'd presume you could score a decent PC through the same channels.

Damn, the Logitech G25 came out in November 2006. G27 2010. You were right about the G27. The G27 was discontinued in 2015. Think that was when the Logitech PS4 wheels hit...

So Thomas has confirmed on the blog that the button with the cruise control symbol on is a Speed Limiter button. If this is a PS4 wheel with a GTS tie in does this mean we are going to see manual pit stops in the game?

But then I remember earlier in the blog he said it wasn't a wheel so I'm totally confused. Hopefully we find out next week.

Do you think that maybe he is playing with words?... It's not a wheel, it is a wheel base!

It looks like lower build quality than the CSW line as it's all plastic. Will be interesting to see what it is, as they said they were working on a PlayStation base similar to the CSL Elite as Sony wouldn't let them do a Hub like the Xbox One version but the edge looks very straight.

I also can't remember any of their bases having that many buttons on the base before perhaps it's the only way to keep functionality with exist wheel rims?

Would it also qualify as something that's never been done before, even on PC?

Hmmm... I would hazard a guess that it is still a new wheel base, but with something extra.

It could be something you clip on to an ironing board, that makes it look like the dash board of a Ford Model T...

Really, I have no idea of something that hasn't been tried before, even on PC.

Remind me never to play Charades with Thomas.

That has given me an idea... Maybe what we are being shown, is not "The Wheel" or even "Wheel base" so our questions about what "this" is, are misplaced! This is not to say we are not getting a new wheel/wheel base, so what could this be that's not been done before?

My (new) guess, custom button caps.... An add on for our new fully compatible PS4 wheel base, that will have fully programmable button mapping onboard, independent from the PS4 or game, which as it happens is also compatible and functional with all current Fanatec rims.

If your gonna remap the buttons, they need to marked up correctly, what do you say @Fanatec... ?

Just don't ask how much :scared:
:D:D:D

I think you're on to something with that guess. A wheel base with PS functionality and a kit to re-mark buttons on the various Fanatec wheel rims. Sounds pretty feasible.

I've been running any base I want including DD on PS4/GT Sport for weeks now. Don't know what's taking everyone else so long ;)

Just kidding on the last sentence of course, we all know it is licensing issues that hold up Fanatec. It's not like Fanatec wants to make a new base for PS4, they are forced to by the big wigs at Sony. I am fully confident that if Fanatec could give us what we want and allow old bases to be fully compatible with PS4 they would.
Thomas doesn't seem like a money hungry guy to me, he seems like someone who just wants to provide the community with the best hardware possible at a price that allows him to stay afloat and continue future development.

It totaly sucks that Sony has such strong licensing policies, but please don't blame it on Fanatec.

Never the less, I am very excited to see what the new product is! However, I am also sad I wasn't a beta tester :(

I am now using my Simexperience Accuforce wheel, Main Performance PC Simpedals and dual Thrustmaster THR8S shifters for GT Sport, thanks to the release of GIMX Version 6.6. The FFB feels great. Thanks to GIMX, I also am using my Accuforce, etc. for Forza 6 Apex and Forza Horizon 3 on PC.
