Hi, is there anyone interested in a FC online event? With the ability to race in private rooms (all slots reserved), and even if online mode still has a few flaws, I think we could have a lot of fun, taking advantage of the many good things this game has to offer. Besides, online play is very weak nowadays, we can hardly find rooms to race.

So, this is my proposal:

1. The races will be held on a weekly basis. Day and hour to be discussed.

2. Each week, a different car. We start with the F430 Challenge and after that one we follow the order we get on trophy mode (you can see that order in the "trophy mode achievements screen").

3. Each week we have 5 races, each of them in a different circuit. Length of races to be discussed. At least 1 of the weekly races will be held under rainy weather.

4. Tracks to be voted on a weekly poll here, to be closed at least 3 days before the event in question. In two consecutive weeks we can't repeat more than 2 tracks.

5. Every week one of the players will volunteer to be the host (we are talking about more than 20 weeks, so a team work will be needed), it's his duty to open up a room at the scheduled hour, with all slots reserved, and invite all others (I don't think we'll get more than 16 players in each week).

6. Race settings to be discussed, but I think we should have all assists off, except maybe to allow the racing line to the ones that want it (I think we can set the room leaving for each player the "Racing line" choice, I'm not sure). To avoid lag problems and misunderstandings I also think we could leave the collisions on "Off", but all this is to be discussed of course.

7. The points system will follow F1 present rules (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1). The weekly host is responsible to take note of the finishing position of other players.

8. It's not mandatory to participate in all weekly events, but of course if you don't race you don't get any points and you're compromising your position in the final standings.

9. If more than 16 players want to race a weekly event, only the first 16 applying to race (here, in this thread or in a dedicated thread) will receive an invite from the host. Sorry, but the points each of us gets will mean nothing if we have more than one room where the event races are held.

We could also think about creating teams (I belong to a GTP team - T&L - but sadly none of my team mates is a FC player) and give "team points" (something like a "constructors championship").

Anyone interested?? Any more ideas??

I would be interested but I'm not going to have access to my ps3 for a couple of weeks (its sitting on a moving van right now) and the next couple of months will be very hectic for me.

I haven't played FC online. What does collisions off mean? does that mean you can just go through other racers? I really don't like that idea. Might as well just run time trial competitions (not a bad idea either). I wouldn't mind being able to use some ABS. The cues I use to detect wheel locking just aren't there in a video game.

1 - About collision mode:

Before having the PS3 I used to play TRD3 online (PS2) and whenever lag was a problem people used to change the collision settings to off (especially in open wheel racing, because you could easily lose a wheel on contact). But even with GT cars, racing was very intense nonetheless, with cars closely packed and no worries about getting shunted into a sand trap with no possible recovery. And we do have a lag problem in FC when the cars get close.

But I guess we can wait for others to have their say on this.

2 - About assists:

No ABS isn't really a problem in FC, in fact I find the braking still very forgiving (although, compared to other games, you have to start braking significantly earlier, and that's a compliment to the acuracy of FC), but again let's wait for others to have their say.

3 - About when you can race:

That isn't a problem. 23 cars give us 23 weeks, that's almost six months and if we do some breaks every once in a while, this could go on for a very long time. And you can race whenever you want (if you are one of the 1st 16 to apply, but I don't think that'll be a problem in a forum dominated by Gran Turismo players), and to not race whenever you can't do it (or don't want to).

Judging by the lack of response to this thread, there just doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in FC on GTP. I think we should start on a more informal basis & try to build up a group of FC racers who meet up online occasionally & then see if we can create a more structured league.

With regard to collision: I haven't found collisions to be a major problem in FC either offline or online. This is partly because the reaction from collisions does not seem to be overly dramatic, allowing a certain amount of bumping & rubbing to take place. It makes me wonder why on earth PD programmed GT5P the way it is with over-exaggerated reaction to contact, which leads to the whole "punting" problem.

I would be interested but i don't think I have the time to participate in such an event. I have so many other games to play through.

As we finally got a GTP online event happening (I'm sorry I was only able to participate in a couple of races), perhaps we could use this thread to communicate about co-ordinating times & commenting on the action. 👍

Guys, I didn't give up on the FC event so far. What happens is that I have close GTP friends that are going to get this game soon, I have close GTP friends that are still thinking about it :D and I have one particular friend (Theewar) that had his PS3 failing on him and will only be able to race online again from next January on. And we simply can't start this without him (ok, I confess, he's Irish and he said that if I started this earlier he would come to Portugal and blow my home to pieces :D ).

So, I will start an FC online event in January.

Here's a list of players from GTP I know have FC and could/should be interested in this:

1) the ones that have already posted in this thread:

- GTP_HUn (yours truly)

- GTP_GoesTo11 (Zathra5_)

- GTP_SimcoeAce

- GTP_J-Pap

2) My usual race buddies from GTP and/or FC:

- GTP_ENERGIYA

- GTP_Marchbrown

- GTP_Fairplayplz

- GTP_Graffen

- GTP_Stealthwinnr

- GTI_Theewar

- GTP_mr geez

- GTP_FLASH48

- jjaisli

- Hozes

3) FC "Veterans" I now rarely see online or even posting here but hope could return to it

- amar212

- Klondike

- Hereward

- Mekanaizer-

Apart from these 18 players, many more could/should be interested in a FC online event, be it FC players not from GTP (RSRacer; Holy_Sword; Sarrinen69 and a few others), or GTP players still playing GT5P only, like GTP_MJH (he has the game), GTP_Synwraith (still in denial :D ); or GTP_PrudentBear (We have to talk to him about FC).

And many others, sorry if I forgot someone I should mention.

So, in conclusion ...

FC ONLINE EVENT ... COMING TO A TV SCREEN JUST IN FRONT OF YOU ... NEXT JANUARY!

Sweet-looking car!

I think we will have to get the best of our GTP guys out to tackle Sarrinen - he is seriously fast.

RSRacer has just joined gtplanet

I've had a number of great races with RSRacer, but one race in particular, Paul Ricard in the rain was probably the best race I've ever had online in any game. We were bumper-to-bumper for 10 minutes, exchanging the lead several times around the slippery Ricard track without knocking each other off line once, & finishing a fraction of a second apart. Brilliant! 👍👍👍

Sure, I'd be interesting in an on-line event too. (Although I doubt I'm much competition for some of you guys). LOL! I better get practicing. :)

LOL! Actually, I'm not sure if I would be interesting but I would be interested. Sheesh!

Hi guys. Did someone mention my name? :) :)
Count me in 👍

Hi there RS, welcome to GTPlanet! 👍

Guys, I'm getting the slight impression we could get very near to the 16 players needed and, maybe, even exceed it. I didn't anticipate this interest before and, if my impression becomes a fact, this could mean a drastical change in the layout and rules of the event (if we need to have more than one lobby running it).

This is the status now (I'll use the GTP usernames)

a) Confirmed entries
1 - Hun200kmh
2 - Biggles
3 - Energiya
4 - jjaisli
5 - GT-RS

b) pending confirmation of availability
6 - Zathra5_
7 - J-PaP

c) GTP members that haven't posted here (because they're either shy or lazy :D but have told me personally they'll enter
8 - Marchbrown
9 - Fai_play_please
10 - Theewar
11 - mr geez
12 - FLASH48

d) non-GTP members that haven't posted here (because they didn't register yet) but have told me personally they'll enter
13 - Holy-Sword

e) GTP members that didn't post or say nothing to me but my "sources" :D tell me are interested

14 - Graffen
15 - Stealthwinner

f) Other GTPers I expect to be interested, but I never spoke to them and don't even know if they saw this thread already

16 - Hozes
17 - amar212
18 - Mekanaizer
19 - Hereward
20 - Klondike
21 - Scaff
22 - Kneedragger

Since we're about to enter the Christmas/New Year weeks, I expect to have more confirmed entries soon. First 16 entries will fill a room. If there will be more, some solution will be found (the best I can think right now is opening a second lobby, divide all players equally between the 2 lobbies (as an example, if there's 20 participants, we'll race 2 lobbies of 10) and then the first 4 from each of these 2 lobbies by the end of the event will still have a "8 players lobby" WORLD FINALS race to decide the "Ultimate GTP Ferrari Challenge Champion"

Feedback/Input from others is appreciated :)

Hi Hun.

I really appriciate your efort here, and I 100% suport this idea, but I have to thank you on the call to jump in, just because there is no way on earth I can make my schedule for something like this.

However, wish you luck with this and I hope we'll race soon in some "usual" races. Yesterday I was so dissapointed when I wanted to race online around 7PM and there was NONE (in words: Zero, Null...) online race going on.

Such a pity.

Hi amar, thanks for your kind words, my friend. :)

Let me tell you this, maybe you might reconsider.
- The events will be just once a week.
- 5 races in a row.
- It'll be ALL cars (one week per car). So that gives some 23 weeks (not sure, it's whatever number of cars the game has, I gave up the hope for any DLC now)
- It will happen probably during weekends,
- and I guess it'll have to be run sometime late night (in Europe, probably 10 or 11 GMT), because that means evening in NA and early morning in Australia.*
- It's not mandatory to enter all events (that wouldn't be possible), but of course missing a few weeks will have a cost on points and rank position (not that we care much about it, anyway, this is for fun :) ). I'll probably have to skip a few myself.

Think about it. Anyway, this will only start mid-January, so you can either apply now even if you give up later, or apply later (I have no deadline for it atm, but I'd like to have people applying ASAP so that I can figure out how this will be run.

*Unless we have 2 lobbies and can fill one with Euros only and the other with NA and AUS members. Will see about that when we have a clear picture of who is applying for this.

EDIT: THat "zero" lobbies surprises me. It happened when I came back to FC, but these last few nights I get to see several opened lobbies often, and even when I open one up it soon gets nearly filled.

Hun, your really twisting my mellon man. Lol. You make it sound very tempting. Hmmm, shall i join tonight? Find out in a few hours.

5 races too much, Jon? It'll be done and over in a litle over than one hour (with 10 minutes races), I already have spent about 3 or 4 hours straight racing with you both in GT5P and FC. But hey, the rules aren't set yet, we'll hear from others also. Thanks for confirming you're in 👍

I don't see any reason why the races couldn't be held at night E.S.T. since there are a number of EU racers, mentioning no names, who seem to be quite active at that time. Perhaps they're training for the 24 hours Le Mans?! ;)

Seriously, it would be nice to have more participation from N.A. GTPers. Vaxen indicated to me a while ago that if he was a good boy, Santa might bring him FC for Christmas. Let's keep our fingures crossed! :)

I'm a bit dubious that we will be able to run a full grid without serious lag problems. In my experience, the best races, with little or no lag, have been with only two or three cars. in any case, we can experiment & see.

Wonder who that could be :sly:

I got it wrong Mario. Of course I dont think 5 races is too much. I read it wrong and thougt you meant 5 racedays during the week. That would have been a litle to much for me.

LOL. I don't know how you do it!

RS is a cyborg :D

Yep, FC races every night is more than any of us can handle LOL ;)

Now seriously, things are getting shaped and look promising. I'm a bit worried about 16 players lobbies, didn't have a chance to enter one yet, but I guess that with players from EU, NA and AUS all at the same time, a 16-player lobby could become really laggy, to the point when racing would no longer be a pleasure.

So, and because I already take for granted that we'll have much more than 8 players (we can even have more than 16) the question arises. If we make a multi-lobby event, how do we split the players? randomly? or we go for drivers online ratings (I guess based on the tutorial overall percentage) and create two equivalent lobbies, both with cyborgs and humans ;)? That's my main concern now, for the overall layout of this event my mind is very much made up and the basics of it are the ones described in the first post of this thread.

As usual, any input from you guys is very welcome and appreciated. 👍

PS - Sometimes I see forum members I don't know "lurking" in this thread. Please, if you're interested to join the event, just write it here. This is not a "Hun200kmh and the guys he knows" event, it's open for anyone that would like to race it.

I wouldn't worry too much. I'm sure everybody is really enthusiastic about joining. But life sometimes gets in the way. I have a 3 year old daughter and I run my own business and sometimes don't know if I'm coming or going. I doubt you'll have a full Lobby every week. But if it happens we'll deal with it.

hi to everybody:)
interesting idea ,I would like to participate
they are only there 2 problems:
1)with FC I am terribly slow :sly:(principal problem....I don't succeed in using well the dfp)
2)I cannot always guarantee my presence to all the competitions....:indiff:

in Italy on the forum TeamGT we had tried to organize competitions ,unfortunately many have abandoned FC ,and on GTExD there was not any other with FC :guilty:

a true sin FC and' interesting and underestimated ,paradoxically a game of Italian auto for excellence snobbed in Italy....

ok :when he start?
I will be' the safetycar.....:sly:
ciaooo

I would be one of those lingerers who keeps checking up on the thread but not posting. :)

I would be interested in the event but of course it just depends on the days and times. I'm a lot more free at the moment being on holidays till march but say for instance the races start 7am (local time for me) I wouldn't be able to make it.

I think splitting up drivers according to their tutorial overall percentage is a great idea.
