Ferrari F458 Italia

The induction system has a massive effect on engine sound too... especially the carbon boxes a lot of the supecars have.

The F430 was my favorite ferrari, but now the F458 has replaced it...It looks more aggressive than the 430...Loving the three centre exhausts 👍

I hate to admit, that that is the ugliest Ferrari ever. The front is quite OK, but the air holes on the outers side of the headlamps are just ugly. Otherwise the front is nice. But don't let me get started on the rear.

I think it looks absolutely phenomenal. I really like the side-profile that seems similar to that of an Enzo, the headlights remind me of a Lotus, and I also like the look of those exhausts 👍

It's pretty meh, design wise. Where's the gills, vents and all the rest of supercar madness? It's too sedate for a Ferrari.

So this was the F458

Wasn't all that far off really

On the F40 the middle pipe was used for the turbo. As the F458 dosn't have a turbo it's a bit 'gimmicky'

Looking back at the Jalopnik article featuring those photos of the crash test 'F450' that were leaked, it would appear that the centre exhaust pipe isn't a gimmick, but is used as a by-pass. A lot of performance cars these days use valves in the exhaust to make the noise sound better at higher revs whilst keeping the decibels down at lower revs. This 3 pipe set-up looks to be a similar kind of thing, perhaps the bigger, outer two are only opened at a certain point up the rev range?

Wow, that's a stunning car. It'll take a little while to see one moving to understand what's going on with the graphics in the front, but that is a gorgeous car. I love the way the bonnet folds over the lights and similarly in the back, where its sensual lines break over the rear glass. It's very reminiscent of a beautiful woman in a designer dress.

This blows the 430 out of the water, which to me was a poorly facelifted 360. Finally, we're back to coherent, attractive and lustful Ferraris. There was a good 3 models that totally missed the mark, but the ball is definitely back in their court. Lamborghini, step the hell up!

-edit- The 430 and to what I recall, the 360, also had the bypass valve, however I'm not sure how the actual piping was managed.

Slightly off topic, but why do Ferrari continually jump about with their naming conventions?

308 - 3 litre 8 cylinder
328 - 3.2 litre 8 cylinder
348 - Yep, you guessed it
355 - Errr, what? 3.5 litre 5 cylinder?
360 - 3.6 litre. 0 what?
430 - 4.3 litre. Still 0 somethings.
458 - 4.5 litre 8 cyclinder? Yes? Woohoo.

On topic. I like the look of it. 👍

Mix it up I assume, 450 just seems like another step up which is what you expect from a Lexus or something.

Wow, I have to say that I LOVE the way this car looks. It is stunning from every angle, something which previous Ferrari's have never managed.

Between the California and this, Ferrari really has come back to the absolute forefront of design 👍

I don't like the way they designed the front and LEDs. (It looks a bit like an Evora.) The rest I adore, but it would look alot better if they designed the front to look more like a Scuderia. I also like the way they added 3 exhaust pipes, but it would look more FURIOUS if they gave it a Lamborghini LP640, LP650, and LP670 exhaust pipe.

This should explain it a little bit daan. :)

Part 2's for something else, but still interesting.

On the F458, I love it. That's all I can say.

That is how you design a car. I like it very much. 👍 Everything just looks great, and nothing is out of place.

Not as good as the F430, but I like it. The design seems a bit more aggressive than past ones.

It's like Ferrari's take on the Lotus Evora.

Am i the only one who thinks it looks like a Lotus Enzo?

EDIT: Ahhh no, im not:
It's like Ferrari's take on the Lotus Evora.
:D

But it looks better than the 599, 430, Enzo, California... ... ...

IMO it's the least sedate Ferrari since the Enzo, which in turn was the least sedate Ferrari since the F40. How un-sedate do you want them? :odd:

Agree with all of this but especially the bit in bold 👍 If you're classing the 360 in models that missed the mark I'd have to disagree with you though! In my view the 360 was the last genuinely pretty Ferrari.

Regarding the sound in the video further up, I have to say that it's the one aspect so far I'm a little disappointed with if that's genuinely what it sounds like - the gearchange sounds odd (very quick by the sounds of things - do we know if it's twin clutch? - but odd), and the sound is a bit sedate compared to something like the old 360CS:

The sound of stock cars isn't that great most of the time. However the aftermarket offers solutions ;-)

I won't post two videos of modded 2009 GT-R's , because they don't belong here, but they are a nice example of the transformation from boring sound to great sound.

I'd say 95 out of 100 cars profit from aftermarket exhaust systems regarding sound quality.

I like the 430 better.

Same here.

I can't really find much of a fault with the look of the 458, but somehow, it just doesn't feel as familiar as it should. Its a gorgeous car, but at the same time, something just feels... Off. Maybe I've been around too many 360s and 430s? I dunno. The car is awesome, but I almost feel like it looks too much like, dare I say it, a Lamborghini?

Yes, this is from Autocar's site:
The dual-clutch unit from the California has been modified with different ratios and now shifts even faster than the 430 Scuderia’s 0.06sec. The gearbox’s shift style is likely to be slightly more aggressive than the California’s.

There are some seriously special numbers for the engine; 127bhp per litre isn't half bad.

Easily the best looking current Ferrari IMO, the 430 looks a little messy, the 612 little odd (though i must admit, has massive presense in the flesh), and i really like the 599, but this is on another level totally
