FGT Indy 500 - Gauging Interest

@akmuq,
If this race is a success Owens and I have plans to run more "authentic sim races" in the future. There are many real-world, prestigious race events that we can recreate in GT5; the Daytona 500, GP of Monaco, 24hrs Le Mans, 12/24hrs Daytona, 24hrs Nurburgring, 1000km of Suzuka, to name a few. Obviously some of these would have to be condensed in time but we plan on trying to make the races as close to authentic as possible.

I read your post, looks like you might have a good contender for the 24hrs Le Mans already, so we will try to do the F1 GP of Monaco next so there can be a well-rounded Triple Crown (FGT wouldn't be an authentic GP of Monaco). Cool idea, btw. 👍

Brandon

Thanks. Monaco F1 races will probably be aplenty in the next couple of weeks in the lead up to the real life Grand Prix as well as Indy 500s, then Le Mans isn't to far away so there should be a bigger leaderboard soon and possibly a first person to win the Triple Crown. :D
Pretty exciting.

Also, I may compete in this race but at the moment I don't have the car. I'll try and make up the money in the next couple of weeks.

I would say a FGT could be sent your way but it exceeds the trading limit. :( On the plus side, grinding the American Championship race at Indy to earn the cash will give you lots of good practice!! Hope you can make it!

Brandon

I should be able to get it pretty soon. I just hope everybody will use my bobs and I'll do Indy and the seasonals when PSN is online again.👍

Curious what color of FGT's are guys entering with?

Castrol looking White, Green, and Red for me.

Still waiting on a date and time for this. It's really hard to sign up for somethig with no vague idea of the time of the week / time of day.

I might do this.
Is there anyway we could get teams going for it?
It really depends on the day/time for me.
During the week would be best Monday or Wednesday.
And I need to be done by 10:30 EST...

Race Sunday May 22 race start at 9am PST / 1pm EST / 5pm GMT.
Race Lobby will open at 12pm and we will start race at 1pm.

Be ran in a public lobby.

We will be running live qualifying the entire week before. This is one run per driver. Open practice with qualifying being done when a drivers requests to make his pass. This series will lock in the top 8 spots. Then come Saturday the 21st of May we will run an all day tuning session with a second chance qualifier for 9-16. These positions are not locked from the week qualifier. So Saturday may bring new drivers into the field as well shuffle the line up some.

We plan to make a new post with a solid layout and all info posted.

We will PM all interested drivers with a link of this thread.

Greatly appreciate your interest and hope the race day and time is something doable for all.

With the strong interest. I am going to order the Winners Medals today. ;)

Rumor has it my partner Brandon aka Stigs Hero is considering offering a prize for the winner. I seen what he is talking about. I must say. I am shooting for the win if he indeed puts this up as a prize.

We got a few other things we are trying to get going relevant to prizes. ;)

Medals for top three are guaranteed.

Fantastic!!!!

Love that we are getting known good Racers.

The additional prize for the winner is a 36x24 100th Anniversary poster from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It has pictures of all the winners as well as pictures of a full field of winning cars from the IMS Hall of Fame parked on the front stretch of the Brickyard.

That's so legit guys!

I would really be honored to win a medal. It's gonna be an intense race.

Man, I just want that jewel case. Just look at the colors, red and green; my favorites.

/\ Your avatar is hysterical!! :dopey:
Thanks, it's an epic little ride right? Just like they'll have this year! Go McLaren!

OK I have to say this now.
If I win (which I most likely will :)) I can't accept prizes outside of Gran Turismo or GTPlanet.
I'm not going to give my address to someone no matter how well I know them on the computer.
Parents wouldn't like that very much. :(

Maybe something my GTPlanet related would be appropriate...
Like perhaps a year's subscription for GTP Platinum...

We can find a local establishment to send to. Fathers work. No worries. We work that out.

Seriously, I can't accept prizes.
Sorry guys, but if that's the case...
I'm 14, parents wouldn't like it if I was giving out where I live.
They wouldn't like it if I were competing for a prize in a videogame. :)

I had this concern about physical prizes, it's very understandable for people to not want to give out their address to a relative stranger on the internet. I believe they could be shipped to a local UPS or Fed Ex but I still don't think that helps Gogatrs at all. There will also be some sort of virtual rewards too, like certificates you can print out and perhaps some kind of custom trophey image that could be used as an avatar.

I think the idea of premium GTP subscriptions is a good idea, but I don't know how they are offered or how much they cost. Perhaps a year for 1st place, 6 months for 2nd place and 2 months for 3rd place or something like that? @Owens, how would prices for premium GTP memberships compare to the medals you ordered?

Brandon

If the racer refuses the price. We can pass it down to the next person in line. However I would think the medals are best just left for tue next race if refused.

We can offer a virtual prize via gifting on GT5 to those not able to receive prizes.

As well totally respect this aspect with minors being involved. We are willing to work with any winners to get prizes to them. As mentioned work place. Adult friends, family. P.O. box.

Btw shipping outside the US may require some help getting it there. We can cross that bridge when we get there.

In the unlikely event of me winning, I won't accept the prize. Just so you know.

We will try to seek out some other forms of digital or virtual prizes that can be offered, like premium memberships or some kind of subscription maybe. It's a shame there aren't more options for rewards in GT5, but there are some ways to work within what they offer. One idea, 3 $1million cars to the winner, 2 $1million cars to second place and 1 $1million car to third. Another idea is to offer a virtual cash prize in the form of performance parts, the top 3 places could each send me or Owens one of their cars and we could RM the winners car and send it back, put $100,000 worth of performance parts on 2nd place car and put $50,000 worth of performance parts on 3rd place car.

Or perhaps we could organanize performance packages, 1st place gets their choice of RM cars (under the $1million limit) with tires of choice fitted; 2nd place sends the car of their choice and we put Stage 3 Engine and Weight Reduction, full intake/exhaust, High RPM Turbo/Supercharger, tires of choice; 3rd place sends car of choice and we put Stage 1 Engine/Weight Reduction, full intake/exhaust, sports soft tires. And Owens is somewhat of a pro-tuner so he could even dial in the settings before sending it back.

Those are a couple options, but we are of course open to any other ideas if you guys have any.

A PSN gift card or whatever is always an option.
You could PM the code to the winner.
Or even better, you could try to grab some of those stealth codes off of eBay!
Those are getting ridiculously expensive though. :(
Just a thought.

Not bad ideas at all. We plan to host a few of these races where prizes are offered to the winners. Hopefully if things go right we will have the interest to do so.

I had the idea of a private invite race. One where it cost tue entrant 5 usd and all is paid back to the winners. That's just some ideas floating around. That may not be doable. Have to research all angles first.

5X16 = 80 1st 40 / 2nd 25 / 3rd 15 Or maybe pay back to 5th. So 4th and 5th would get their entry back. Maybe 20 for 2nd and 10 for 3rd. Then 5 for 4th and 5 for 5th.

Personally like the idea of podium finishers getting the prizes. However not something we will decide with out input.

The Hackers have F-d up the online racing. They caused the "duping" which de-valued all prizes & hard work along with the rich rewards that winning is supposed to give. I think it'd be great if you could get $20,000,000 for winning this race.

Now they've taken down the network and canceled alot of races.

Errr, I believe that's against the AUP.
Giving out and requesting money. :(
Good thought though.
You'd have to build a website or go do that on another forum for that to work.

Exactly!! That kinda thing needs to be done correctly so it's not violating any eua or such. As well with the whole gambling crash. Last thing I or anyone trying to improve the Sim Racing aspect needs is to break rules or laws.

We just want to raise the level of awesome that is Sim Racing.

Looks like fun! I'd love to join. Should be able to make the 1pm start. Went to my first 500 last year (I've been to five Brickyards and one of the Formula One events though) and I can say this is the most exciting sporting event I've ever been to so replicating it online will be an absolute blast!

Been a fan of the 500 since I was young and plan on being at this year's 500 in person. I've also watched a group called RACER do their version of the Indy 500 the last couple of years via car and track mods for rFactor and I thought it would be cool to participate in a event like that. I'm glad someone had the foresight to have a go at recreating the event for GT5, so I'll give this a shot. ;)
