FGT Indy 500 - Gauging Interest

Looks like a number of us will be at the real 500, we might have to have a little GTP meet-n-greet at some point during the day. The place is HUGE but we could find a central location to meet up and toss back a couple cold ones (for those of legal age of course). đź‘Ť

Man, this lack of PSN is killing me! I've been doing some one-make races in practice mode with the FGT on the Indy oval to attempt some kind of practice, but I'm pretty sure the AI cars aren't aware that they have 7 gears. They're all bouncing off the rev-limiter as I breeze my way around them, it's rediculous. If I stay in 6th gear then it's somewhat competitive, but it really doesn't offer me any kind of experience I can apply towards racing real people.

I sure hope they get it back online soon. :(

While I would finish dead last in the race (and I might do it if I get a FGT), I also will confirm that I will be at the Indy 500 and Moto GP this year. Chris (Camikaze) is going to try his might to get here for the 500. I went last year after a two year layoff, and forgot how much a blast it is especially in the infield. This year its $30 for GA, but we wanted to sit in seats, so I grabbed some seats. :sly: I'm so excited about this year's race! :D --- Randy

I'm going to try to get an official thread started for this today. Owens and I will be running this under a joint GTP account with the name ASRA (Authentic Sim Race Association). I will list all the specs and regs as well as have a formal sign-up list. I'll post a link to the thread here.

Still hoping we can get on track together soon to do some practice racing!

Good call. I'll check that out. Have a couple other questions to ask them too. Want to stay in their good graces! đź‘Ť

You might want to see with a mod if your allowed a joint account. I'm not sure to be honest.:nervous:

I would hope this is not the case.

Now if we were playing ninja and causing ruckus. The multiple screen names are a problem and require moderation. Agree with this.

I would think this particular case is the acceptation. However we prob should clear it with a mod or Admins.

It has been nixed by the mods. I'm checking to see if it is ok for only one of us to run the separate account, it would make it a lot easier to follow posts/threads regarding the races/league so hopefully that will be acceptable. We're doing everything we can to make sure we stay in good graces with the mods. đź‘Ť

I can understand and respect their stand. However, it would be nice feature for those premium accounts.

Brandon, If you want, see if they allow you to change your username to ASRA.....

Authentic Sim Racing Association. :)

I can see where they come from. It's one of those things that if you let a couple people do it, then everybody will want to do it, so you just kinda have to ban it for all. Sure, if just a few people did it there probably wouldn't be any problems, but like Pringles - you can't have just one. :)

They already have their hands more than full trying to keep these boards under control, and I don't want to add to that mess in any way so I will play by the rules. In fact, I would like our races to be something that they can actually be proud of (and maybe even brag about) so we're going to stay on their good side and make sure we don't do anything to make their jobs more difficult. đź‘Ť

And why do I have to change MY name?? The Stig only has one hero, and I'm proud to be it!! lol

I did a bit of testing for this tonight, and there must be a big difference between FGTs. Either that or an oil change makes a huge difference. Mine is making about 935hp and seems to get around Indy in 38.5xx. I think a power limiter might be a good idea, or specify oil changes allowed/disallowed.

I haven't driven mine much until recently so it probably isn't broken in all the way. I've been doing Like the Wind a lot with it recently, I'll check again and see what it's up to. I don't think we plan on really limiting the cars at all so the times you were running will probably be valid.

Yeah, an oil change did me some good. Went from 884hp to 928hp!! @898PP right now.

We haven't forgotten about this race. We're all kind of in a holding pattern waiting for the PSN to be revived. I'm working on getting the official thread ready, but I've been busy getting the Race Modified Cappuccino Cup ready, plus work and life. I should have something up in the next couple days hopefully.

Im wondering once PSN is back up when will we be doing online practice and stuff like that.

We plan on holding lots of practice/tuning sessions and practice races during the whole month of May, probably several night per week and on the weekends. I'd like to do several 40-50 lap practice races so we can all get an idea of what it's like to actually race against each other in these cars for an extended period of time and also test out tire wear and some different pit strategies.

I am starting work on the official Indy 500 thread this morning and should have it posted sometime today so stay tuned. I've been so busy with the Cappuccino Cup over the last week that I haven't had time to work on this thread but I should be able to get something up today (hopefully). I'll post a link here once it's ready.
