Yeah to easy, RX7 is no problem, I received your fr and will accept it after another full system reset, thanks pd,

I will attend asap just to ensure I have no connectivity issues and allow enough time to troubleshoot them

I'm out for this week, my the lobby jumping has extended my patience and connection this time,

I must ask why the hell we needed to jump from the initial lobby where all the people who had to do the pre Q race were already there?

Secondly, that 6 car race was a lot of unfair, in hindsight the lobby should have been split into groups of the same amount and the 16 fastest should have joined,

Thirdly, why does a new lobby need to be created for everything? PD has the most unstable servers known to the internet, changing lobbies is just tempting fate,

I do hope there is a better system in place to be view here for next week to determine if I can/ will participate next week

Despite all of tonight's issues I did actually enjoy driving the car. This race report will be a short one though for obvious reasons.

Pre-Qualifying
  • Set a decent lap which put me 4th on the grid, and got a good enough start to take 3rd at Turn 1.

For Turn 2 I was on the outside and unfortunately put a wheel on the grass, which sent me to the back, and then at the next corner I couldn't avoid the accident up ahead.

That put me in last with pretty much no way to recover. I did manage to get close to Chip and make a pass at the start of Lap 3, but after putting a wheel on the grass a few turns later I spun out and retired.

    6th (DNPQ)

Feedback on tonight's issues will follow...

Hi Dave, in all the rounds we have raced so far this is the only night with issues. With people joining and leaving the series we got a bit lost with how many people were racing, hence the 18 or 20 that turned up. So Karsten had to improvise and create a quick race to see who can participate in the real race. And the reason we changed the room was it was set up as a practice rooms for laps and the actual race is set for timed, ie 90 minutes.

All the issues will be sorted for next week and we will start on 7 like always without the same issues. sorry bud.

As mentioned above, here's some feedback on tonight's issues.

First, off Logic did hold his hands up and take responsibility for tonight's race being over-subscribed; anything I say from here on is not a knock on the organisation team and is merely intended as constructive feedback. A minor oversight caused a big issue but unfortunately these things happen sometimes and the right course of action is not to assign blame, but to learn from the experience so that further events can benefit from what happened.

Let me also say that this post would have been made regardless of whether I Pre-Qualified or not; I messed up in that race and under the rules in place at that time I did not earn the right to compete in the main race.

The main issue with tonight was not the oversubscription, but rather how things were handled after the issue was known. There was no clear direction on what was going to happen, both before and after the Pre-Qualifying race; who was doing the race, how many people would be eligible, who was given the spot, would we have 2 lobbies and split the results etc. Do we listen to Logic, do we listen to Karsten, who is racing, did somebody just quit, ...for a newcomer it didn't leave the best first impression to be honest (granted, this was your first week where you had these issues and I can understand you were not sure yourselves on how it should be handled).

The takeaway from me on all this is that things were a little rushed and because of activity/signups taking place right up until the lobby opened you didn't have enough buffer time to solve any issues that may arise (such as the oversubscription). Fortunately, this is something that can be eliminated in future with a little bit of planning.

Here is the club that I have done the majority of my racing with, they've been running for 3 years and have ended up with a pretty robust procedure for organising weekly races.
In short:
  • A page is set up with all of the season's regulations and calendar.
(for GTP this would be the opening post of a thread)

  • Before each race, there is a roll-call thread on the forum, which gives an overview of the coming race, and a numbered list of who has confirmed that they will or won't race.
(if GTP allows racing leagues to have multiple threads, I recommend having separate threads per race)

  • In this role-call thread, people post if they are IN or OUT, and a running total is added to the original post.

  • Pre and post-race discussion also goes in here until the next race thread goes up.
It's a simple system that works effectively, and with a few tweaks can certainly work for you guys or any other league that's run on GTP.

Additionally, a deadline on new signups should be added.
For example, on Race Day, you close signups for new racers until the race is over, have the entire day to sort out issues (people dropping out, event being over-subscribed etc.) and then you run the race. Once the race is over, you open signups again, post a new role-call, and repeat the cycle.

Finally, everybody that signs up must have an opportunity to race. People may spend a lot of time practising, or cancel other arrangements in order to free up an evening to compete, and to be told that you can't race after all of that is just not a good feeling to have.

If you oversubscribe, you run 2 lobbies, and find a way to split it down the middle (having 16 people in 1 room and 4 in another is not the way to go; if you have 20 entrants run 2 lobbies of 10) and merge the results (here is an example of a merged results race). Suggestions for splitting lobbies could include: Splitting by championship points order, splitting based on a pre-qualifying session, splitting based on "fastest 2 of each Impreza in Lobby 1, slowest of each Impreza in Lobby 2" etc.

That is all the feedback I can think of right now, I hope you find it useful and consider applying some of it to future events/seasons.

As for next week, I am on a business trip and my return flight lands on Monday afternoon.

I may be around to race but cannot guarantee that I will be able to attend.

Yes, but thanks to technology a simple press of a few buttons can have a 1 lap to 24hr race which ever is your desire, lobby jumping is not required at all, and jumping multiple lobbies was what caused my inevitable connection issue

When a community practice room is set to laps you can't change it to 90 minutes without opening a new room!

We just need to write it off as a bad server day because after all the problems we got 14 in the room and people just kept dropping out and after we finally started it was to laggy to race. So postponed for a week.

Hi Guys, i have to say first of all that the problem with the number of drivers on the grid was totally my fault.
My name Logicline seem very wrong today.

When we started the series off and there were only around 10 at the start of each race for a while, then a couple dropped out for personal reasons, so i decided to start telling anyone omnline about the series, as i only happened on it by chance myself, joining a room where some testing was going on, and was pointed to gtplanet, and i had never heard of it before.
So i have taken an unofficial role of recruiting, as i do practice online a lot and always tell others about our series, how friendly we are, etc etc and where to go to show their interest on the thread.

The really dumb part of this, and i never even realised before tonight, was that the car list i was trying to fill with drivers was for 20 places, and there are only 16 grid slots.

I have been so keen to get people in, that i never bothered to count that we have 5 car makes, and 4 of each car makes 20, i have just been recruiting away and publishing lists of the latest recruitments as they sign up on a daily basis.

Tonight i was so happy at the full turnout, until i realised that still 4 of our regulars could not get into the room.

I would have been happy to sit out the race myself, as after telling everyone to be there tonight and rather than let them down i would rather not race.

I must admit that when it dawned on me i was horrified, how could i have not have realised my list of 20 would overfill the grid.

The decision to run a prequalify was possibly the only thing we could have done, as we have drivers for different time zones, and some struggle with the lateness of the race as it is.

Also the fact that there was noone in control, is sort of correct, it is really only due to the fact that we are just like a virtual family, we all know what needs to be done, and get through easily in general.

Tonights events were a bit unexpected, and then to have such an awful time with the server, has as you say made us realise we should have some procedure set out for these unexpected events.

Anyway, for all the people i have let down i am so very sorry.
We will go through the events and come up with a solution for sure.
Many many apologies.

@TDZdave @kossu @PJTierney

First of all i admit things could have been better... I wasn't aware we oversold the racing places so i had to come out with a 5 minute solution and couldn't think of anything better than this Pre-Q race.

We had to switch room because you can't move a room from laps to minutes/endurance (i wonder why, PD!?) and for some reason PSN yesterday was completedly Fked up. Never had such a nightmare in basically 3 season filled with about 30 races of 90 minutes O_o

That really made me mad, i'll be honest :D

We Never needed the rollcall so far in the season because we never had more than 12 on grid... We jumped from 14 drivers (and a couple missing races) to 20 in like 3-4 days and i wasn't aware... I got Friend requests from PJ, TDZ, and kossu last minute...

Concerning running 2 split rooms, i won't do it now because we are nearing the end of season and there's drivers fighting for championship win, and running 2 half rooms give a great advantage to certain drivers, and makes the BOP IMPOSSIBLE to check and use in next rounds....

@Stephen Vann Don't feel bad you did a great work with your recruiting :D We might up the number of rooms to 2 and take 32 drivers next season :D Actually if the format we are studying i successful as @SkengD thinks we might HAVE to prepare and set up 2 Rooms using then a combined results calculation based on room results and time results based n both rooms... I.e. 16 to 1 points for 1st to 16th in room, and 32 to 1 points based on time performance of joint room results as PJ suggested...

All in all my apologies for the mess, but if PSN was normal we would have managed and raced easily no matter what.

Now a question to all partecipants:

Do we want to shorten the season of 1 week ditching sarthe and running without BOP at motegi?

I ask because this monday skip caused all to slide back one week and some of us might have some issues racing on the 22 of december?
