Sorry if somebody asked this already but the order of the 3 drivers 1st 2d and last to drive were chosn by lot or decided by the team ??

Unfortunately, Nakao grabbed one of those over the top 6 second penalties on his out lap for apparently abusing the computer set track limits at the fast chicane on the GP circuit before getting on the Nordschliefe (since when does barely cutting a chicane net you a 6 second penalty yet punting someone off track only a 5 second penalty?!).
Thanks for posting from a driver/team perspective. :) It is something most, if not all, will never experience, so to get some personal experiences is great.

Was there anyone to talk to about the severity of the penalties? Having real race stewards rather than in game AI should afford the option to discuss things like that, you would hope.

Well done on getting there in the first place, and the 6th place in the race. Hope you have a great time while you are there. ;)

I can't deny that the Manufacturer's event was exciting. Definitely was standing up when it became a drag race for the podium spots.

That said, the downside of this format is that all one's efforts during the season could be meaningless if the Finals combination doesn't suit said manufacturer. Also, just a Gr3 race? I know, I know. Gr4 has massive balancing issues but drop wear and fuel rates to the minimum and I think it still could've been done.

Yes, quite a shame the Suburu ruined the BMW's chances and got less of a penalty that an apparently insignificant cut. However, I feel BMW put themselves in that precarious position by using the medium tires. I can see how slowing those behind them with a worse tire could be a huge advantage but we've already seen aggressive moves being done during this event. You're basically slapping a "Pass Me" sign on the bumper and at the Ring, even the slightest of contact sends one into the grass.

Nico's outside pass of the Dodge at Planzgarten, I still can't believe that happened. That whole stint may be the best I've ever seen him drive.

Nissan, for all the sheer talent in their lineup, they kept shooting themselves in the foot. Qualifying, that 5+ second penalty first stint, Mikail spinning like a top and Igor running out of fuel. In retrospect, just avoiding one of these mistakes and this was their victory.
Sorry I took so long to reply, but I was really pissed off to be honest. 3 different contacts with 1 basically deciding my fate... I must admit I am getting pretty tired of the divebombs going on so much so I've been thinking about whether I should compete in the future... irrespective of anything there's No way I'm doing 100m divebombs that cause crashes. I don't race like that and I don't see it as racing. If there's a gap ye go for it, but some of it was silly and stupid.

What made it even more frustrating is I'm pretty sure I'd have got my number 1 pick for the repecharge race and I was really fast there...

I'll see though obviously still a little frustrated to travel for one race. I dont mind being beaten fairly either. I'll enjoy the rest of the trip though, I hope the guys can put on a good show at least!

Thanks for any support though, that has been epic!
Having been on the receiving end of divebombs one too many times, I can understand your frustration. Right now, saying you don't want to compete anymore is understandable but that would mean having one less driver out there that knows how to race clean and fair. That would be a huge loss for the community that needs that inspiration of sportsmanship. You're certainly one in my book.

Brilliant race yesterday, well done everyone, couldn't watch it live unfortunately.

Everything was spot on except for the dodgy chicane cut penalty, also we didn't see what happened with dodge in their incident with merc, showing an onboard replay of that during the race would be fantastic.

I am disappointed by Honda performance, expected more from a team like that.

Manufacturers stole the show, as some have predicted!

Edit:
I have noticed on playstation UK facebook page that live stream from nations semi final hit 300k viewers, while manufacturers hit more than 500k already!!! Do you think those numbers are real or is someone playing with bots? Usual numbers on their videos are from 10k-50k views hmm....

Well, what can I Say ?

Of course disappointed of the race.

Not for the results, but for the circumstances. The BoP was the worst I've ever seen. They should consider to create a special BoP only for this track because differences were so high.
Not really in performance factor but about stability and motricity.
Why not letting us to setup the car at least for this track ? It shouldn't be considered as the others tracks.

You can't imagine how hard was the NSX to Drive. I even feel worse for Citroën, Renault or Ferrari. MR in general.

I tried the Toyota for 2 laps and manage to do 8'00. Damn.

I'm not finding any excuses, and the winning teams had done an extremely good job, but this is supposed to be a championship where eveyone has the same chance and this isn't the case.

Think about that, Nissan has qualified 7th With the best team, so, is the car not as fast as it should be, or régional champions not as fast as it looked ?

Jumped in the Lexus this morning on the practice rigs out of mild curiousity and basically was 4 seconds faster inside 15 mins practice than in the Ferrari.
I still can't believe PD didn't at least revert the Ferrari to 100% power in the last BoP change before the event. If this doesn't convince them to do that or better yet, a 2% weight drop to help the tyre wear, the BoP team should be taken into a dark room and beaten.

Firstly: Congrats to all those who went to Monaco and put on a great show, especially the great commentary from Jimmy Broadbent and Chris Mccarthy

Now, What would be nice is for PD to find a way share replay data so we could watch the race from whatever car/driver we like. I would have love to have seen what happened to some of the drivers on track that the live stream missed/or cut away from too quickly etc.

What a great finale. Feels good to be on Team Lexus's side since the start of the main championship seasons. I've always known they were the most stable choice of the manufacturers, and even though I was fully aware there were other top-tier brands and drivers to watch out for, persistence and safe driving is all that matters in the end.

@RoadBeef and I are doing a special live companion cast of the Nations' Cup Finals! Meaning we're going to have a live stream going and commentating on the race at the same time. Definitely aren't going to try to compete with the amazing commentary team that's there for the actual event, this is more for people to go back to later on to watch back for a live reaction/alternate insight sort of thing. And if anyone wants to pop in and join us while we're streaming, please do so!

We got exactly the same penalty as Nissan lap 1, like 3.9 seconds in the same place (which becomes a 9 second loss on that bigass straight) absolutely gutting because we'd have been in that Podium scrap without it

Can't really complain at 6 positions gained though

EDIT: Also we are 99% sure Chevrolet was down 1% power, we were missing a KMH or 2 on the straight

Up to the teams.
So i can understand the Nissan strategy starting in the mid pack on mediums and with the soft tires for Igor at the end , but i don't understand at all the BMW, 100% wrong to start at the pole position with mediums. Nico on soft would have made the gap and turn the rest of the race just a question of path and control for the others teammates. Big mistake.

Nico wanted some rest after qualyfying and still do the stint on soft tyres, understandable. Back in Salzburg I jumped straight from N500 Willow race into the red bull standard race 5 mins after (didn't have time to have some water quickly) and it's very hard to adapt quickly and get your head clear. It would have worked just fine for the BMW if Subaru didn't smashed them, bad luck.

Sure that the subaru move was a bit dirty and they've payed a little price for it, but in my opinion starting at the lead with mediums in front of this raging faster pack on soft is asking for a tragedy, principally on this track.
If Nico was still under the pressure of the previous race , it was a good choice to let him rest , but the Pole position BMW driver ,leader of the pack , still had the better , safe and faster option to start on soft.

I certainly won’t speak on behalf of the BMW team, but if I were to guess, I imagine the thinking was two-fold:
  • So long as they could keep the Soft cars behind them for a while, it’d essentially waste the competition’s tires, as BMW would still have Softs for its final stint.
  • Knowing that the Nissan would be one of the primary late-race challengers on Softs, keeping Rubilar and Softs (the guy that nearly dipped into the 7s in qualifying) would be the best sort of insurance.
It was risky, but that’s sort of the beauty IMO: there has to be some level of that in the strategies here. 👍

Agree on that, especially taking into account that other 2 bmw driver were not on the same level as Nico (with all respects to them). Dodge team for example put their "weakest" driver on soft tyres and it worked like a charm, he did a good stint and managed to shave off some time compared to the driver in front. Unfortunately for them they got caught up in some incident with the Merc later on, not sure what happened.

To be honest i'm surprised there are so many comments in the livestream, the Playstation facebook page seems to be very active.
