Fifty Shades of Grey...... lulz

So, I watched the movie with my GF on Saturday.

Gotta say, it's far better than I expected! The characters are deep and the plot is quite meaningful, so I don't get all the negahahahaha, no, it was bloody awful. Hated every second of it.

The acting was mediocre at best, the dialogue was weak, the characters even more shallow than I expected, the attempts at humour predictable, the BDSM/sex scenes were rather tame (by my standards) and the obvious Audi sponsorship got annoying after a while. The only bit I was impressed by was how often the "filming one main character's face over the other's shoulder" camera angle was being used - even the cinematography was uninspired. That and how many clichés you can fit into a single film ("how can we possibly show the audience how friggin' rich Christian Grey is?" seems to be the one thing the director pondered throughout a lot of scenes, seriously). As for the plot, if someone thought The Hobbit was stretching itself thin, well, FSoG tops that with utter ease.

And while I'm at it, the plot doesn't even make sense! Careful, gonna spoiler now, in case someone still wants to "enjoy" the movie

So, you got that 25 year old virgin, who's throwing her virginity on her second date with a guy 'cause he's rich (presumably); same girl gets real interested in the whole BDSM thing and even considers signing a contract that's gonna make her his sex slave. Fast forward an hour of stupidity and she's leaving him 'cause he's twisted and sadistic. I mean, no kidding? The first half of the movie was all about that, how on earth can a broad possible be dense enough to not realize what she's getting herself into by then? Add the whole thing of "she's gonna turn him around and show him true love" for that generic bit of cheesy romance, too. Gotta wonder how the whole story ever caught on. Are people really that starved for some mild BDSM soft porn? Seriously, given the hype, I was expecting something a bit more explicit and... rough, for lack of a better word.

Only positive thing I can report is that my GF didn't like the movie that much, either. She agrees with me on most points, aside from generally liking the romantic side of things (and somewhat identifying with the female lead, for a number of reasons). Well, that, and they had a song by Sinatra... About the only thing that seemed classy about the movie.

Verdict: Make sure to at least get compensated for sitting through the flick; otherwise, avoid at all costs.
You know what this is actually do you?

Its a poor mans porn for a man who has money to buy tickets.
