Final and last conformation about 900 degree steering?

Honestly this is the single biggest issue for me. The whole premium vs. standard thing is nothing compared to this. Considering the fact that the DFGT was made for Gran Turismo games, I was somewhat disappointed by the fact that driving a lot of the fastest cars in Prologue became extremely difficult because there were just too many degrees of rotation on the wheel. The F2007 comes to mind when considering this issue.

If the game doesn't adjust automatically for the different cars, I hope it at least allows you to adjust the range of motion yourself because it's really vital to the experience IMO.

I completely agree. It shouldn't be hard to implement in the game, lets just hope there will be some sort of configuration for the wheels.

The 1:1 ratio argument, not against it, but i heard it looks horrendous, the paddle shifting is wonky enough as it is without the arms clipping each other as they cross.
That's why we should able to disable the arms.

I think it's a hardware limitation. Most likely the wheels themselves don't allow games to arbitrarily choose the steering lock. Sure, the fanatec does, but what about the other ones?

I believe all that can be done is forcing the steering calibration to reach the maximum turning at the angle you choose but the problem is, the wheel wouldn't actually lock. What I mean is, in a super GT car for example you would be turning the car wheels all the way at the proper steering angle, but the steering wheel wouldn't physically lock, so you could turn it even more without any effect.

Can't really explain what I mean clearly but I hope you can understand

I think, the steering wheel don't tell the PS3, which complete steering angle is adjusted. They tell the PS3 the percentual part of the complete steering only, but not the steering angle itself, I mean. I hope, you understand, what I mean.

i never did fancy the 900 degree lock for gaming so im happy with my df-ex, which has much less

it works well in GT5P, unlike GT4 which made it shake horribly on the straights because the game was geared for 900

It's not a hardware limitation. Logitech DFGT, G25 and G27 wheels, when used on a PC, can have their steering lock reconfigured freely (I guess it's implemented by applying force feedback at maximum power when the wheel is turned over a certain, user-defined angle).

GT5 could do this seamlessly. Most road cars would get 900 degrees of rotation, race cars less depending on each single case.

It is a software issue on the PS3. On PC with the G25 you can set it from 40-900 deg. I use for Indy/F1 the 200 standard setting, Rally 360(Dirt 2 PC), Race cars 540, Sports cars 720(High end production cars), and 900 standard production on pc. I believe, it could be in the specific car settings for each car. It would probably take more time for 1000 cars than just writing a program to change it in the controller setting menu with patch for GT5, but not likely maybe GT6.

That's basically all it is. There's software you can download from Logitech (not the driver, just a driver suppliment) where you can set this information. When you hit the edge of motion it set, it just applies constant feedback to push it back. Effectively, you can feel yourself hitting the lock, but it'll still let you go past it.

Unless it's just for the controller, I think GT5P was already using speed-adaptive steering. When at low speeds, the steering ratio goes up. When you get up to high speeds, though, it goes back down. Some way to set a consistent steering ratio at all speeds for steering wheels would be nice though.

We'll just have to see what they'll do.

It would be faster for PD if they would add two settings race /standard (that you can set manually).
And then when you start a race next by tires etc you select witch one you will use

It's not a hardware limitation. On NFS Shift, it lets me lock the wheel to 270 degrees. It actually lets you turn it up to 270 degrees. But if you go further, you have to put a little more 'force' and the extra rotation doesn't make a difference. I'd be happy with this.

Also, I don't even think the wheel is at 900 degrees at 'Professional' setting wheel mode in GT5, so it should be possible to change the 900 degrees setting.

I'd prefer if it happened automatically so its more realistic - have the same wheel rotation as the real life counterpart.

Well yeah but its harder for them to add.

It would be cool if the lock changed when you upgrade your car with sporty suspension and etc (FFB could change too)

Heres the 1:1 hand animation they did have.

Is there a way to lock the G25 into 270 degree steering? If you can't currently do it then you will be able to in GT5 if you can on Grid.

I wasn't talking about the animations.

I was just saying how racing spec cars should have wheel rotation at like 300 degrees or whatever they actually are.

Interesting. So PD can indeed easily do this, even if it's a "half-assed" lock. Well I certainly hope they do it. Would add to realism.

The software-implemented lock mechanism works pretty well on Logitech wheels ( on the PC, obviously ;) ). but I really don't like the primitive 900 degree steering animation they've shown in the video above.

It would considerably add to the realism if the movements were fluid and humanlike, but in that video the clipping and unreal movements made me understand why PD kept things at the simplest possible fashion. 1-1 steering animation looks pretty hard to be implemented convincingly.

yeah exact animations to match actual steering would be AMAZING. I kind of wis there was an option to put the camera more forward to hide the steering wheel when using a real racing wheel but oh well no biggie. I probably wont use the steering wheel anyway as it is to expensive for my taste.

Hey guys, I've only read the first and last pages of this post but I think you're talking about an issue that's bothering me with Prologue since just today I bought a Driving Force GT (no money for anything better I'm afraid, and I had to cos gimpy DualShock claw just wasn't happenin' anymore).

Playing in the F1 car is just ridiculous however since you HAVE to use all 900 degrees to steer it. Can someone give me the short answer if anyone has any info on this for GT5, will this issue be fixed allowing you to either choose 200 degrees or whatever it is or at least have the lesser steering angle locked to cars where it is appropriate?? The wheel is great on production cars and while I'm not a driver in real life and I'm getting used to having to keep turning for tight corners, at least it feels right. In the F1 car and other high speed race cars though it's simply unworkable and not very fun OR realistic. I don't see Hamilton and co having to corkscrew their arms and feed the wheel one and a half times round in either direction just to make hairpin! :P

Please please PD better have an extra option in the game to sort this out!

In GT5P you can basically adjust the steering rack ratio for each vehicle. I believe the setting is called steering input. its not an angle though its just a number.

In that case PD should adjust the steering ratio per car when using the steering wheel.

I’m hoping that since my DFGT wheel is the official wheel for Grand Turismo as stated on the box and certain cars are easier to drive quickly if the degrees of the wheel are customizable to suit the driver, I’m praying that PD gave us 900 degree people choices for our driving experience and not force us to deal with an oversight by Logitech and Kaz if that were the case.

This is good to know but sadly in the Arcade Time Trial mode (the only place you can post your fastest lap on a leaderboard) the tuning option is inaccessible so you can only play with 900 degree steering.. :(

I tried a steering wheel with Forza once and returned it because i feel in order to reall yhave the true experiance you should just go out an buy the whole chair, pedals, and everything. I hope to have that someday!

I hope PD give the option to change the wheel settings so that the 900 degree DFGT can end up being a 210 degree lock to lock wheel (obviously it wouldnt have endstops but it would reach maximum deflection at 105 degrees right or left)

I've played GRID with my G27 and it has the option of 900 or 180 (I think)steering. The game just tells the wheel to apply full FFB when you get to the 90 each way and won't have any further steering input into the game if you turn it past that.

If GT5 had that option it would be good but I wouldn't use it as I bought my G27 for the full 900 steering, clutch and H gate gear stick.
