How much bigger/heavier is the new Focus in reality, and how does it feel? Must be quite a difference jumping so many years of development.

It's nicer over long distances and much more comfortable at cruising speed, but it feels blunted where the Mk 1 felt sharp. There's a lot less feel to the steering and overall it feels a lot bigger than it actually is. It doesn't inspire the same confidence to throw it into corners but it does feel a lot more grown up.

Swings and roundabouts, I guess.

You can throw it into corners, I took my Focus to The Dragon and it held it's own. I did have summer tires on it, but it was all stock suspension and what not.

When I came to find a first car I saw that price really drops with age. So I decided to go as old as possible and get the highest spec car possible, hence, the Mercedes 280 E
