five second penalty

As annoying as it is, I wouldn't suggest not buying another GT game because of it! After all, I expect GT5 will use damage as it's own penalty, so you probably shouldn't worry too much. But using a really fast car can make the race harder while at the same time making it easier. I suggest using a car you've seen before racing on that track, that's what I do and it works for the most part.

I agree that the rallying is sooo poorly done. Only the computer seems to have enough control to drive the tracks properly. I think that until video games can somehow stimulate your inner ear to make you think you're feeling the lateral G's, there will be a definite limit to how well you can drive. It's a shame too, because the rally cars really are fun - I love my Lancia Stratos, it was worth every hour of frustration!

My tips are the wall riding and swinging the back of the car out. Fact: If the front of your car is touched, you get a 5 second penalty. I tested it once. I sat completely still on a track, facing the wrong way, and let a car run into me. I got a 5-second penalty FOR GETTING HIT!

Additionally, if you have a very close-geared car, you can partially avoid the speed penalty through rapid downshifting as soon as you get the penalty. If you get your car to hit the rev limiter, it will sometimes stick at the redline instead of slowing all the way down.

I agree with h0ss,
If this was a feature that was permanant feature, it would teach a lot of people whats its like to finish a race cleanly. Although a few Ice Races for me have caused more cuss words then you can imagine, you should not need to slam into things to win. Its not like you get peanalized for goin too wide and bumping your rear bumper on the outer edge of the track so this means you need to go slower and more steady. GT4 is by far the funnest game in the PD library through my eyes.

PS A tip for Ice Races. Get the RSC Rallye Raid car, get infrount early then just slow it down and stay in control. Good luck, don't put down GT4 just yet, cool off for a bit, I usually turn off the TV, throw on a CD and read an old Import Tuner or PAS Mag when I get fusterated with a race (licence test's, GRR).

The 5-second penalty can be very annoying (i.e. AI cars getting in the way). If you do start to lose it and you're heading towards the wall, try and slide the car and hit the wall with the rear (rear-quater, that is) - you'll normally avoid that 5-second penalty that way.

It's annoying when they cut you off, forcing you to run into them, so they give you the penalty.

I don't really have a problem with it though...

The only thing about the Special Conditions ring is that one (hard race)...the Tsukuba wet race...it is harder than any other (hard) special condition race.

:mad:I hate the 5 second penalty too:mad:,:banghead::odd:but why GT4 add it???!!!!:banghead::odd:

The purpose was to keep dirty drivers from punting into Ai cars, and gaining an easy win. But the reality is that it sucks for clean drivers like myself. If the Ai decides to smash into you, they get no penalty (and you'll find they DO take many oppurtunities to hit you).

Sometimes, they'll hit you, and you wind up taking the 5-second penalty! :mad:

Uh, people that test reactions usually get attacked by the more prominent members and get reported, which will lead to infractions. I suggest you not test the reactions of anyone on here, it wont end very well for you.

5 second penalties are bull!&%t I hate em... doesn't mean I haven't conquered em. Just means I hate em. Especially when the A$%wipe AI hits me in the rear. Curses. But, it sure beats enthusia and that crack smoking enthu points system, if you want to be frustrated by nonsense... play enthusia. Konami was smoking the old crack pipe when they coded that one. BIG TIME!!!!

The one thing I've noticed when you're side by side with the AI, if you collide and you're in 1st, no penalty. If you're in 2nd........5sec penalty. So long as your B-Pillar is past his and you see the 1 in your position box you should be right......doesn't stop him slamming you into the wall though and getting the 5sec penalty that way. :irked:
