I agree that the rallying is sooo poorly done. Only the computer seems to have enough control to drive the tracks properly. I think that until video games can somehow stimulate your inner ear to make you think you're feeling the lateral G's, there will be a definite limit to how well you can drive. It's a shame too, because the rally cars really are fun - I love my Lancia Stratos, it was worth every hour of frustration!
My tips are the wall riding and swinging the back of the car out. Fact: If the front of your car is touched, you get a 5 second penalty. I tested it once. I sat completely still on a track, facing the wrong way, and let a car run into me. I got a 5-second penalty FOR GETTING HIT!
Additionally, if you have a very close-geared car, you can partially avoid the speed penalty through rapid downshifting as soon as you get the penalty. If you get your car to hit the rev limiter, it will sometimes stick at the redline instead of slowing all the way down.
