Flawed F2003?

David Coulthard/McLaren

McLaren driver David Coulthard is unconcerned by threats from Michael Schumacher and his F2003-GA, the Scot convinced that the new Ferrari will encounter teething problems at this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, leaving the door wide open for him to secure more vital world championship points.

The new Ferrari has been extremely fast in testing recently and the team put it through three race distance runs to ensure its reliability before introducing it in this event. However Coulthard knows that it takes more than testing to know how a car will react in race conditions and it could take several races before everything pans out as the Italian champions hope.

"There is no question that when a team unveils a new car in a competitive situation it is hugely different to anything the team experienced during testing,” he was quoted as saying in the Record. "I'm sure the team will have tested and tested the car but everything changes when they take the wraps off it next weekend in the race situation in Spain. There's bound to be areas which are likely to be fragile and that's where we at McLaren have to be ready to take full advantage. We've shown right through this season that our car is quick and reliable. In terms of outright pace there's still a gap to Ferrari but there's no point in having the quickest car that doesn't finish."

David is currently second in the drivers championship behind teammate Kimi Raikkonen. Michael Schumacher is currently third, just one point behind the McLaren ace. Do you really think that something might just happen at the coming race? I mean, I know what he's talking about, testing's to put the car through conditions of a real race, but when you actually put it into a real race, problems will come up that you don't expect... I personally hope that the F2003-GA won't screw up. I've got high expectations it's got to live up to.. ;)
