I'm not really sure why they wouldn't bring it over as a Mondeo, since their market is supposed to be global now and all that jazz. I'd be very disappointed if they didn't.

Probably because of the UK emissions tax rubbish.

The Mondeo-in-a-posh-frock Vignale is already £29k, and that's for a front-drive diesel.

I wasn't even aware the Vignale existed. When you said 'Mondeo-in-a-posh-frock', I assumed you meant it was some new executive saloon based on the Mondeo's architecture, kind of like a new Scorpio if you will. Without the stupid grin.

I didn't think you literally meant a Mondeo with some chrome trimmings and a 'premium' dealer network. That is a questionable move, I have to say, as Mondeos don't seem to sell anyway - I see more S-Line A4s and M Sport 3/4 Series' than I do brand new Mondeos on the road, partly because they seem to be very over priced for what they are.

That makes the Mondeo Sport (ST?) a bit of an anomaly to me really. There are plenty of fast Fords out or going to be released very soon, which kind of makes it redundant in this day and age. Most buyers who want a fast, practical Ford seem to be content with the Focus ST, and if they need more space, they can always get the estate version instead. I can guarantee something utterly redundant but still fast (let's say, an EcoSport with a Fiesta ST engine and styling cues) would sell more in its first month than this would all year. Past fast Mondeos never sold too much, but then again I think that's because Ford simply never built that many to begin with.

I want to like this car; the ST200 and ST220 of the past were so subtly cool, and the Mondeo being forgotten about kind of has its appeals, but unfortunately they seem to have missed the mark.

Surely they won't have a fit over a 2.7 EcoBoost.
That'll do what, 30mpg? 35mpg if it's lucky? Ford doesn't seem to be selling many sensible diesel ones with sensible VED figures for £25k-odd. I'm not sure there's really a market for a £30k+ one that'll cost £500 a year to tax and depreciate like milk in Death Valley...

That is actually impressive. I just wonder if it will be offered with three pedals..

I think I read somewhere that it'll have an automatic with flappy padles, but only 2 pedals. Correct me if I'm wrong.

On that topic, I love how this entire paragraph:
But power isn't the Fusion Sport's only trump card – there's also the price. At just $34,350, it's a staggering performance bargain. It's not a BMW, but the starting figure is just a smidge more than the $34,145 320i – that's the base 180-hp model – and it's $12,445 less than the 340i. Things are even better when you start ticking option boxes, because a well-equipped Fusion Sport – navigation, adaptive cruise control, vented seats, 19-inch wheels, and dual-zone climate control – is available for less than $40,000 ($39,855, according to the online configurator). Now, let's not be silly – we don't realistically expect the Fusion Sport to match the 340i in every dynamic metric. But if all you care about is straight-line grunt (and that's probably enough for most Americans), the Ford is a hilarious bargain.

Ignores that the "hilarious bargain" when "all you care about is straight-line grunt" is two grand more than a V8 Charger.

The 2.7 Ecoboost is a nice little engine, closed deck, cg iron block. Should be capable of even more power than the open deck 3.5 1st gen Ecoboost the SHO gets. Open deck blocks, while proven fine for most tasks, just don't do it for me. Other than that, I can't really say I am excited about this yet.

Edited because cell phone, and work:indiff:

Not to mention the $26k 348hp Hyundai Genesis that is significantly lighter. Or...ya know...the $32k 435hp Mustang GT
Except, the comparable Genesis (4 door) costs more--- then you get the fact it's more expensive to fix. I like the Mustang, but if you want a little comfort, be able to carry more than 1.5 people, and cheaper insurance--- this Fusion seems to check many boxes. Oh yeah... I can also drive this in the dead of winter. Those other cars you mentioned in this thread over the last couple days? Not so easy.

I'll give this to you though: If I wanted a third car to just have fun with whenever I wished and screw around... you're right a low-kit Mustang GT (or Genesis Coupe for you;)) may work. Damn priorities

Pity it didn't get the ST branding. A Mondeo in Tangerine Scream would be quite something.

Well, I figured here was a good spot to put this since it's showing a Ford Fusion. Anyway, Ford apparently wants to introduce an autonomous car in 2021. Though, the idea their talking about is a bit worrying, because they want to take out the regular car controls (steering wheel, gear lever, pedals & etc).

My main problem with their concept is that without manual controls; that means if the auto drive system fails, the passengers could be in trouble as there's no way to take control in case of a disaster. Honestly, I rather see auto drive as an option.
