In a surprising outcome of a comparison test, the Ford Fusion recently knocked-out the all new 2007 Camry in the Detroit News test.

Leftlanenews.com
The Detroit News has picked the new Ford Fusion over the Toyota Camry in a review of the two entry-level sedans. “We were startled, and disappointed, by the less-than-sterling assembly quality on our test Camry,” wrote Anita and Paul Lienert. “The Fusion, on the other hand, proved to be a pleasant surprise, with an upscale cabin upholstered in rich perforated leather, with handsome piano-black trim.” When it came to power, ride, and handling, the Fusion was also picked as the leader. For exterior looks, it was a toss-up. Depending on your personal taste, either car should suffice. When it came to safety, the Camry was the clear winner — you have to pay extra for most of the safety features on the Fusion.

I think I would agree. What I did see of the Toyota at the Chicago Autoshow was quite boring, and really unappealing. I want to have a bit of gusto in my sedan, and the Camry just doesn't cut it these days. Sure, its a Ford, and I'm not a Ford fan, but it would probably be one of my first choises if I was told to go out and buy a mid-size sedan TODAY.

That's becuase the new Camry (much like the new Civic) is actually a step back, and in a way the Ford tuned (read: boring) Mazda 6 is still better car than the always boring Camry. And the new Camry is as ugly as sin anyways.

well, yeah...that's obvious. But a Toyota with poor fit and finish is unheard of in this day and age!

Its like lexus. Theyre relaiability has gone down as theyre cars got more complicated as they chase after the europeans.

Last time I heard, Lexus were still getting accolaids left right and center for almost everything, the only area they really get clearly beaten, is in the BMW 3 series territory, with their new IS, which is not as good as the new 3 Series.

True, but that's the case with any company, none hold the top spots for ever.

Dude I've been telling everyone that the Fusion rocks! No one believes me, drive the V6 with the CVT transmission and floor it as liberally as you want--it's quite a fun car. The only thing I'd change in the interior is get a different auto shift knob--like the one that's in the Freestyle. On the exterior I'd remove the chrome trim in the taillights and spray them smoke grey, and as for the front chrome grill...I'd spray it the same color as the rest of the car. :sly:

How the hell? Ford must have paid off someone to win that test, but really let it be up to the sales...the Camry will out sell the Fusion by probably 3 or 4 to 1.

Why would anyone want wood like that in that interior?

It's a bit too yellow for my taste, but it does look upscale, I've seen similar colors with Lexus or Infiniti, BMW... In terms of wood, I prefer something like these:

Or even the old IS...

Well, I would hope that more newspapers would be able to see through the Toyota blinders for once and pick a car that is better. And OMG, someone did! Hey wait, didn't Car and Driver and Motor Trend both place the Fusion second only to the Accord in their last roundups of the 2006 Sedans?

...Hmmm, it seems Ford has a winner, that is if the public is fed the information to show that the car is better... Ohhh wait, I forgot that the media is so completely tilted against GM, Ford and DaimlerChrysler that it would never happen... Too bad!

I can't wait for the new Zeta-Impala to walk all over the Accord and Camry, then people will finially see that American can and will build the cars that Americans want and need...

Precisely. Its the prejudice the public has for American cars thats hurting their sales. They make quite decent cars now, certainly better than the Camry. That thing is ugly.

For those of you who don't believe a Ford could be better than a Toyota, you really haven't tried a new Ford yet. The leathers are nice, the layout is simple, classic, but modern, and the cabin ambience is spot-on.

As for modern Toyotas...

I've been to a couple of carshows and model previews, and that sucky fake wood is on almost everything. Seating on new models is obviously comfortable (the Previa is pretty swell) but plastics, trim and everything else feels a cut below... in fact, new Hyundais and Kias don't feel any worse, despite having the lowest rent interiors in the known universe.

I was especially disappointed by the Previa. It's an expensive car here, and loaded with goodies, but the wood trim looks like something you'd find on a cheap diner counter top.

Oh, the new Sonata isnt the rent car anymore. It won several major award and was hailed as a major milestone for Hyundai. Frankly, Id love to have that car than an Accord or Camry, those two are SO overrated.

GO HYUNDAI!

Hell, for the price of the Accord EV V6 with leather and the 5-speed auto, just buy the Azera...

Hyundai2006Azera01.jpg

It is a really nice car, and can be fully equipped for right around $30K. I was really impressed with the car at the Chicago Auto Show, and if I had the money, there is a good chance that an Azera would be pretty high on my list of wanted automobiles...

That car is neat 👍 It has LED rear lights, something only a $50k 330Ci has. It looks better than Accord or Camry by a million miles too.

Don't forget it has more interior room than the 760i (according to the Hyundai television ads)...

Thats it, Im going to convince my parents to go Hyundai. BMW and other German makers have been spoiled enough, they need serious slap in the hand to wake them up and start making better cars.

LED rear lights?

Even the cheap Perodua Myvi based on the Daihatsu sirion has them...

no big deal..the corolla altis also has them..

LED as in the actual LED things, not some cheap copy of it using many small light bulbs. The actual LED you see in electronics. I believe it is a pricey solution to the tail lights, and to my knowledge only the new 3 series other than Azera has them.

How does that thing above be rated above the honda accord? Unless your accord is something different to our accord.

The European Accord is called the Acura TSX in the United States...

Yours (our TSX):

The Azera technically isnt in the same class as the American Accord, but it is priced similarly, and if I'm getting more for my money, why not?

The Azera is quick too, it's got over 260bhp. :sly: And it's got quite a nice interior considering 3 years ago Hyundai was one of the worst interior--GM actually wasn't last like they are now. :)
