Ford Sucks

Ok but this is my opinion some folk love VW's and i respect that, but on MY opinion i think VW are not up to it!

Whaaat? "Hardly any quality issues"? You don't remember that the Explorer has been recalled numerous times? That the Focus has been recalled numerous times? That...****...just about *every* Ford car has been recalled? And that's just in the past two years!!

As for VW...I just don't know *what* the f&ck you are talking about. Drive one. Shoot, sit *inside* one. I don't exactly "love" VW, but I know a good car when I see one. Christ, even Consumer Reports has a different opinion than you.

Are you saying it *will* be produced? I don't know. I thought VW was flip-flopping on whether to produce it or not, but that the last decision was not to produce it. It would have clashed with their "luxury" image, while impeding the progress on Audi & Bentley's "sport" image.

By the way - I love the Sharan. Why isn't in America?

The Sharan looks too much like the Oldmobile minivan, and way too much like the Toyota Previa, both horrendous minivans. There's also the fact that VAG admits the market is more SUV rather than MPV. :-/

Heh - 'just about?' I think every Ford that's been out for at least a year has been re-called already. The Focus has been recalled coming up on seven times (which counts the recall of the high-pref Focus made in Mexico), the Escape was recalled five times.

Now, as the first person (besides automotive journalists) to drive the new Explorer, I must say it was one of the best SUV's I ever drove, if not the best. That said, it was recalled several months after it came out (about eight after I drove it) because of its problem - when shut, the back window would shatter. Sounds safe!

Volkswagen, speaking of quality, could not engineer a reliable car if it came up and bit them. The Jetta has to be one of the less reliable cars of the decade (since 1992) and the fact that it's made in Mexico doesn't exactly help it. Of course, this doesn't mean I don't like Volkswagen. Oh, and the Audi A6? Consumer Reports calls it the most unreliable European car in years.

Yes, I'm saying it will - the last I heard, it was planned in limited (1000) quantities. Seriously, though, Bugatti needs a new car. Volkswagen revived them 10 years ago or so, and since then no new cars have been produced - YET! It's been 10 years, for God's sake! I think Bugatti could be the next Rolls Royce mixed with Ferrari - it's definitely got the brand recognition.

Eh, the market may be SUV, but you can't say that minivans aren't popular (not as much as in the early 1990's). In any case, I don't see VW with an SUV, either! They'd better get crackin'!

The only good fords out there were improved upon by others there isnt a ford out of the factory that I would ever touch, FORDS SUCK!!

I don't know much about the history of Bugatti. I believe a company should fall back on its heritage to move forward (VW an exception in my eyes). If Bugatti has been more like Bentley (high-speed luxury cars), then I don't think they should interfere with VAG's Bentley anyway. But while I like the 16-4, whenever it arrives, that can't be the only Bugatti. They should reach lower downmarket...like a bargain $350,000 750HP semi-supercar. Yeah, like the Bentley GT is a "bargain" at $110,000.

VW should be releasing the Taureg later this year, right alongside the Cayenne (believe you me, price difference or no, we all know which will sell more...and the first two "Porsche" guesses don't count). I guess I'm so used to seeing SUV's I get blinded by the still-popular MPV segment. On the other hand, a MPV would contrast with VW's supposed move into luxury market. Could you really imagine the Phaeton next to the Sharan in the dealer lot? Granted, I can't see a Golf, either, but that is on it's last years, hopefully to be replaced stateside with a proper Golf R32-ish Audi S3.

VAG's Bentley? How long before they lose it? I thought it was e-o-y last year, but obviously not. When will I stop hearing BP's long-term plans of Bentley? I can not WAIT. Odd to think, though. If you had told me in 1985 that in 20 years, Volkswagen would own Lamborghini and Bentley, I would've killed you (or, at least, they would've hung you for being crazy). As far as Bugatti, I think they could be an upmarket Audi. Double the price of all the current Audis, sans the A2 and A3, and probably TT, plus add in the W12 and W16 supercars. Rockin'!!! I would buy one. Er, no I wouldn't. I couldn't afford it! Imagine: an A4 for $65k!

The Tuareg is without question the worst car name I've ever heard. Even worse than "Nova" (No go). Give me a break! I thought it was going to be called the Colorado! Maybe Toyota got mad at them for that idea. In any case, I wouldn't buy it based on its name (and early pictures).

I would love to see the Phaeton next to the Sharan in dealer lots. It'd be like the meeting of worlds. In any case, it's not like it's going to be much less 'weird' to see the Golf I-4 next to the W12 Phaeton. Remember, though, Toyota created Lexus to rectify this exact problem. Volkswagen is a bit too dumb to do that; or at least too dumb to realise Audi's brand potential in the US, but that would mean Seat and Skoda receive in-house competition in Europe when Volkswagen is forced to take a downward move in both markets. But that's too long a story to get in to. :D

I don't really say that "Ford Sucks" because according to my research, 65% of all Fords in the world are unreliable and 80% of all the cars are fun to drive. With cars like the Focus, Mustang, Falcon, the SVT series, Explorer, and (my personal favorite) the Police Interceptor. What gripes me is the recalls encountered with the Escape (and its twin Mazda Tribute) and the hot selling Focus series, and worst of all, the Ford-Firestone controversy. Above all that, Ford is a decent car company with a very healthy history and loyal customers on the side, maybe Ford will never suck.

BTW, the only Ford in my choise is the Ford Police Interceptor concept car featured in the 2002 NY Int'l Auto Show.

I can't wait, either. They need to just do it. It would solve so many problems. I mean, VAG is huge. They will definitely lose Bentley if they don't split. I think VW will not pull a Mercedes and keep $70,000 luxo-barges cars next to $20,000 hot hatches. That's two crowds that usually don't mix (unless you include the rich doctor and his son ;) ).

Ford? Recall issues? Not one recall here.

If you want cars that have been recalled, here two off the top of my head....

MINI - loads have caught fire without warning.

Smart - Rear windscreen shatters, and have been know to topple over on to it's rear end

Edit: Smart know about the problem, but don't want to recall any of them.

You can blast Fords all you want.
But, remember this each time you do:
I lived in Tennessee for five years (the longest decade of my life...man of color married to a white woman---you get the picture)
Fords were the truck of choice for work trucks. MOST of them were old timers (10 or more years old).
Farmers, highway crews, electrical crews, all drove Fords.
The truck of choice for play--you know lightweight usage, pretty build-ups, replace it every three years, cause the ashtray's full,
Chevy.
If it walks like a work truck, talks like a work truck, hangs out with other work trucks, and survives it must be a :ford:

I agree they aren't always the best looking. But I'll stand behind every word in Post #46.
I grew up with Fords. My mother's ugly '71 Galaxie 500 refused to die or have any major problems. It had a cracked exhaust manifold on one side, and NEVER smoked, developed a funky idle, or ran poorly. It was slower than molasses in January, but it finally gave up the ghost with nearly 400,000 miles on it and the heads had never even been off.
My Dad's '70 Country Squire could carry 8 people in comfort while blowing the doors off my friend, Robbie's 80 Camaro. I did it daily.
My '62 T-bird was stylish, admired by my peers, and very fast. And it gave up the ghost with over 250,000 miles on it. (anyone knowing where I can find a 390cid long block Or a good FE-series long block PM me)
My mom had 2 Falcons a '62 and a '64. The '64 was the weakling of the pair. It started missing at about 120,000. The '62 was driven to Fresno from San Francisco and broke a fan belt on the way TO Fresno. Because it was a Sunday no parts stores were open and It had to be driven back to SF with no Fan belt. It refused to overheat.
I am currently driving a '92 Escort GT. It ain't perfect and I had to do some minor work on it when I bought it. But it runs great. I just went out today after being out of town for 10 days and it started without complaint.
I've had major problems with GM cars and with Chryslers. I will stick with my ugly, unloved Fords, thank you. Drive what you like. I tend to pick up stranded motorists, maybe I'll see you sometime.:D

Here endeth yet another rant.

I also agree with what Gil said. I currently drive a 1968 Ford F100 and I love it. So far after driving it two years the only repair it needs is some more paint on the bumer where I warped someone else's fender and I just got scratched. :D My dad drove it years before I did and so did the guy he bought it from, who bought it brand-new in 1968.

The only reason alot of work trucks are fords, is because they are cheap.

if by cheap, you mean getting the best value for your dollar, then you are correct. no one would buy ford trucks if they couldnt stand up to years of work abuse. thats why u see a lot of farmers using ford trucks that are years old....they still work so there is no reason to spend money on a new one.

I have to agree with Salleen.
And further, When you look at the Work Trucks, you know the stripped down fleet models, I believe the Chevy is cheaper. Most places still buy Fords.

I also know that parts for Chevys are cheaper. But then you don't have to buy Ford parts all that often.
*yes that was a "dig"*

Things that make you go "Hmmm"

Well may be I said that because I bought a 1995 ford ranger splash, brand new black it was a beauty, but 3 months later I the stick shift broke so they replaced it, a nob for the radio fell off, a year later the stupid wanna be anti brake system didnt work it locked up just like regular brakes. I just fell out of love for that truck. It was 12,500 new it sold for about 7000 a year and 8 months later.

Any way I got an S10 in 96 never had a problem with it, I got another S10 in 99 it was a 3 year lease, worked great, and now I have a black S10 still no problems. So may be I just like chevys better. I have a friend who buys fords only he love'em he's never had a problem with them. I guess its luck. Im not trying to put fords down because some of the strongest best looking trucks on the road are fords, there just not for me.

Yeah thats becuase are fords are made in England, Germany oh and a few other european countries (no dodgy american engineering here :D )

Mind you we did have the Ford explorer cruise controll problem, maybe the explorer was shipped over from america :D

Sorry for dissing american engineering :P

F1king:
It must be you and Fords, Any family history of a Feud with any Fords?
I know people who have had excellent luck with Chevys. But when I lived in Tennessee I went to college with the sons of the owner of the local Chevy dealer.
This man's wife drove a "European 'Vette" ....A 560SL Mercedes.
If she wouldn't drive a Chevy, why should I?

Fords are good cars and trucks but there are better cars out there.

The Intrepid is better then the Taurus
The Silverado is better then the F-150
The Trans Am is better then the Mustang :)
There are many better Sport Compacts then the Focus
The Dakota is better then the Ranger

These are my thought, not yours. :D

Street,
If you don't mind I will stay away from new Mopar stuff.
My Plymouth Mini Van had to have the top end of the engine rebuilt at 60,000 miles.
I can identify a 2.5 L Mopar engine at 30 yards by its engine noise and can tell you if it's low on oil, Just by the sound. Which I hear all too often.
Since it doesn't leave big puddles of 10-30 on my garage floor I can only assume It has a drinking problem.

well, if ford are so bad why are they one of the richest car companies in the world, and also u are just to blind to basically see that ford make excellent cars, Ford focus and mustang and my fav the GT-40, cougar is good, Sierra is cheap easy to run, reliable good road car, fiesta is a good cheap small car, so u see they are famous all these cars are very well know coz they are good, they would not be making cars if they were bad and ur saying comapies like Fiat, citroen, , kia, proton and renault are not bad u guys have missed out other weak companies, i am dissapointed i would have thought that u guys would have made fun of those or at least critisised them but no, u took a fine company and started taking the rip out of it, just please think for a minute and be sensible is ford really a bad car company? after all of there famous achievements, race wins and good cars. i would be grateful if u could please just think about that.
