Ford F-250 Super Chief Concept
Source: www.gminsidenews.com

The F-250 Super Chief concept provides a peek at where Ford Division wants to take its next generation of heavy-duty pickups.

The brawny body looks as if it were chiseled out of granite. It has an in-your-face version of Ford's corporate three-bar grille and giant 24-inch wheels.

The concept was scheduled to be unveiled at the Detroit auto show on Sunday, Jan. 8.

The interior is furnished with American walnut, brown leather and aluminum trim.

One of the interior features likely not to see production is the vehicle's automated ottoman, or footrest.

The Super Chief's most interesting feature is its powertrain. The supercharged V-10 engine has what Ford calls a tri-flex fueling system that enables the engine to run on hydrogen, E85 ethanol or gasoline. Cruising range between fill-ups is 500 miles.

Ford has been tinkering with hydrogen-powered internal combustion engines since 2000. Ford believes that vehicles that use both gasoline and hydrogen can help jump-start the growth of a hydrogen fuel infrastructure. Ford already produces vehicles that run on E85 ethanol. The driver can change fuel sources by using a switch on the instrument panel.

The Super Chief takes its name from cross-country luxury trains that ran on the nation's tracks from 1937 to 1971.

The concept takes styling cues from the Ford Fairlane, a concept at last year's Detroit auto show. It also shows influences from the current Range Rover.

Blazin's Note: It's big, it's mean, it's offensive looking...and damn it I want one!

Remember the F350 Tonka concept from a few years back?

I pray this isnt the design direction Ford is taking their new HD trucks...

I see it has a Supercharged V10... Sounds like the V10 program is alive and well at Ford, so it wouldnt be a surprise to see the GT-replacement go V10, huh?

Yup I remember the Tonka truck from a few years back, this is much better looking though I think. But I'm almost afraid this is where the HD are headed, while it looks good as a concept I don't think I would be wanting to drive one around.

But at least the Tonka looked normal!

The interior of this thing, the dashboard...it's just wierd...Can't decide if I like it or not.

I like it and hate it all at the same time.
It makes the old "semi-style" Dodge Ram look wimpy. 👍
But the rails and tailgate are too high to see over, It would be harder to back up than my Excursion. It would also be a bear to just reach over the rail to get something out of the bed.

If you had a bed rail tool chest, you'd have to climb into the bed of the truck to access it.

Ford guy that I am, I have to give it a thumbs down 👎 for utility.

But I do like the looks.👍

why does it remind me of a pig with braces?

Either way, nothing says I'm a MAN than a v10 engine, an all hardwood interior, and suicide doors. All it needs is a giant bbq pit in the bed for roasting animals whole!

Man, that thing is ugly. It looks like a giant block of metal. The seats don't even look comfortable.

Okay. This thing looks like a pickup truck brother of the SynUS Concept. That's a mean bastard of a truck. For those saying that this thing looks uncomfortable is because it's still a concept. Don't make the mistake of admitting that a concept car is going to be the exact street-going result, granted it makes production. They are more about looking into the future than being stuck in the present. If you think this is going to be a road going model at this state, then it has no brake lights... yeah, you get the idea.

I'm pretty sure the seats will have plush bucket seats, a grippy steering wheel, plenty of power and performance, and that sort of thing. It's pretty mean as it is. Anything meaner-looking than the current F-Series is beyond me with this thing.

It looks pretty weird, but obviously, this is an extreme concept with interior not yet finalized. I am surprised with the V-10 in there. I think they are stopping production of the current V-10, due to some reliability issues. Maybe they just put one in there for looks.

I predict that this truck will be seen in the "Starship Troopers 3".

P.S. What is "HD"?

This truck is just ****ing vulgar.

I realise that it almost certainly isn't destined for production but if this is the new face of styling for Ford's trucks then I hope that they are beautifully built, great to drive and cheap to buy and run because it'll take a lot to get over the sheer stupidity of these vehicles. What is it, like 15 metres long?

BTW, wow Blazin, king of the Auto News forum. How many of the current topics have you posted?

Good point, but I think the problem is that this concept looks like a SUV. In the States, F-250 is a work truck. Majority of people who drives F-250 uses it for heavy hauling or for work(business). With the failure of the Excursion(Ford people considers them that), Ford will be careful about building any oversized truck/SUV in the future. :D It may seem big, but it is for a good reason.

The exterior looks like ****, but the interior looks so damn sexy! Seriously, more cars should have polished wooden interiors. 👍!

The exterior looks pretty good. Big brash and powerful.

But the interior looks like they let a kid loose with PVA and wood veneer. I mean really, how much of that crap will splinter in an accident?

This is the first time I've despised something because of it's looks.

That thing reminds me of the Range Stormer concept. Not a beauty but man is that thing aggressive. It looks like it had an F-150 for breakfast!

I'm interested in that engine. Any info on that yet? If the Shelby GR1 gets a green light, maybe they could use that engine. They lifted the GT's engine off a truck, they could pull the same trick with the GR1!

Ug...frickin...ly. Who the heck came up with this concept?

The interior is different, though. I can't lay my finger on it, but for some reason, I like it.

That concept almost seems like some sort of parody of big american trucks.

Kind of like the Canyonero from the Simpsons.

Never seen an uglier interior.

The inside looks like a dining room on a boat..

I'd take one though - And you can't beat a supercharged V10...

I haven't read anything about the V10 going out of production, maybe the current one is and Ford's coming out with a new one, not sure through.

HD = Heavy Duty (i.e. 2500, 250, 3500, 350)

A lot because I'm sick of not seeing Auto News in this forum.

At first I thought it looked hideous, but after seeing the interior, I decided the exterior looks decent.

Oh yeah, I hate the interior

I don't know I dig the rear seats, I think they look pretty cool.
