I didn't really expect the FIA to force him out, not unless he starts doing something like taping pictures of Putin to his steering wheel or deliberately saying provoking stuff on social media or the like.

Whether Haas wants to keep him around if he starts tearing up cars or otherwise costing the team money during the season while his dad isn't able to pay the bills... that's another matter.
Its more a matter of whether his russian money can make it into their bank accounts. Hes 100% a pay driver.

If the money cant come in anymore due to the sanctions the countries have put on Russia. Then he might have to move over.

That's what I was getting at. A pay driver who can't pay is a boat anchor, and it's not exactly like Mazepin is offsetting that with a stellar on-track performance. Unless the conflict magically stops in the next week and the global economy welcomes Russia back with open arms (ha, sure), he's pretty much just keeping that seat warm until Haas finds someone else with a super license and a bag of non-roubles.

Motorsport UK has just banned all Russian/Belarusian teams from competing in the UK. As such, that is likely to affect a the Russians in the F1 paddock, such as Mazepin and Alex Smolyar in F3, and anyone who ends up in Porsche Supercup or W Series.

That said, they're specifically banning drivers with "licenses issued by Russian and Belarusian Automobile Federations", so theoretically drivers could apply for licenses from other nations. So if Mazepin manages to get something like a Kazakh or Monaco license, it would avoid the ban (unlikely it'll be granted).

Mazepin's issue might not be whether he can bring the money, or whether people even want him around... his issue is that being Russina, he might not be able to get travel visas for the countries he needs to enter.

Red Bull, after having asked for a driver's salary cap last year once they complained about Hamilton's $50m/year contract because they didn't think a driver was ever worth that much, have just signed Verstappen on a multi-year deal for...$50m/year.

Ah Red Bull. Forever proving how short their memory is and how hypocritical they can be. The sooner they leave F1 the better.

Following up on Mazepin, FIA has announced yesterday that Russian drivers may compete under the FIA flag, with no national colors displayed.

That doesn't address the issue of possible visa problems, though, if the host country refuses to allow a Russian driver entry.

Which makes sense because they wouldn't outright ban him. The bigger issue is if his team wants him racing for no money and/or if the team runs into issues in allowing him into any country with a GP. If you go solely on the UN vote earlier today as to whether Russia should be condemned for its actions.... he might only be allowed to race in China and Azerbaijan.

Is W Series racing at Silverstone this year? That would rule out Ira Sidorkova, as she is due to race in it again this year. They're doing a test at Catalunya this week, but nothing further has been said about her involvement thus far.

Think we've probably seen the last of Mazepin in F1, but Haas are going to have to move quick in order to get the new driver ready for the Bahrain test.

Given Max a cut of that fat Oracle deal, I see.

This is rumoured, not set in stone yet. Dont say it unless it has happened.

"Just signed" is premature, but the reports are that both Max & Red Bull agreed to a mega-deal & we're just waiting on the details of it to be finalized; expected 4-5 years, $50m +/-.

Which doesn't really take away from Jimlaad's point about the hypocrisy of it when there was an article as recent as December about a certain someone in Red Bull opposed to Hamilton making similar money.
"Hamilton is just too expensive for Formula 1", says Marko in an interview with RTL. The 77-year old Austrian would find it more logical if the salaries would also fall under the budget cap.

But if you don't know if the statement is inaccurate, it begs the question of what you have an issue with here??
If the contract hasn't been signed and if the public hasn't been notified that the deal has been done then you can't say that it has.

That's just fact.

Is he going to get an extension with a lot of numbers behind his salary? Of course he is, he just won them the driver's title.

Russian GP has officially been cancelled for both 2022 AND 2023 as the contract has been terminated with the promoter.

Igora Drive, we hardly knew ya.

It seems Mercedes will forever remain the only constructor to have won a Russian GP, which is a depressing thought.

China and Russia. Two races we thought we'd never get rid of from F1, but it took a Pandemic and an abhorrent Invasion to remove them respectively.

Now to work on Saudi Arabia

Is this good enough or do we need to see the signed papers?
