Well it appears the Australian Grand Prix curse continues for home drivers. Doohan crashes on lap 1 and Piastri spins off from 2nd and doesn't recover. What do they have to do to get a home podium?

That was an enjoyable race, good fun. This season is shaping up to be a classic, with any one of a number of drivers in contention. Ferrari should look at getting Bernie Collins in as strategist (hell, Bernie Winters is a better choice at the moment and he's been dead for 30+ years), but something has got to change there because they're too slow at reacting - everything has to go through a committee to make a decision.

For the few people coming here first before watching highlights on YouTube, go with the official channel. They extended those highlights to 13 odd minutes instead of the 7/8 from last year while Sky's version was an absolute mess in the editing department (hard cuts, key moments missed near the end of the race).

Enjoyable race to kick off the season, feel bad for the rookies, tough conditions to be faced with in your first/2nd/4th/12th race start. Well done to Antonelli in particular who really seemed to grow in confidence as the race wore on and timed well in the late drama.

Verstappen showing again how good he is to be that close to Norris in what is clearly a tough car to drive Vs the planted McLaren. Norris won't have everything his own way this season, Verstappen is too good to count out and Piastri isn't going to just lay down and watch Norris win everything.

Ferrari did Ferrari things, was a gamble to stay out and had half a chance of paying off but then left it too late to make the switch when it was clear it wouldn't work. Lewis will naturally take a bit of time to adapt and would have been hoping for a dry race followed by some wet practice sessions to adapt to the Ferrari in these conditions but did pretty well considering. Had a tough day but deep down he'll be happy. China will really show us his comfort level in that car, if it stays dry, Vs the Mercedes as it will expose as areas he was struggling with in the Merc for the last few years.

Bring on Shanghai.
