Mclaren fan here so very happy.
Good race even though not many laps of actual racing took place.

Lando making uncharacteristic mistakes this weekend, big job to recover tomorrow from his starting place too.

Anyone else not even bothered about max winning the championship today? I mean it has been on the cards for so long now. Great achievement winning it so early in the season, it incredible but it makes it means less in a strange way.

Yeah same here. We basically all knew it for months already, so this was just a formality.

Even Max himself didn't seem too bothered by it

I know, that's what I meant. And it's not gonna be long until Mercedes can't overtake him anymore.
Next milestone: Least people involved in team for constructor's championship.

Verstappen could be his own engineer, car designer and everything :dopey:

How soon do we find out how much over budget Red Bull are?
All 10 teams were within budget last season. 2023's budget results will be released next year, likely in the summer if this year is a guide.

An 18 lap limit has been imposed on the tires. This will be a mandatory 3-stop race.

Edit: 3 stops not technically mandatory, but 3x18 is less than race distance, so they have to do them anyway. Black flag for anyone doing more than 18 laps on a tire.

This is coming from some insiders about 30 mins ago. Still waiting on official confirmation.

One thing we'll never find out is how much wind tunnel time for AlphaTauri was allocated to testing for Red Bull components - and given that AT moved to the RB wind tunnel in Bedford at the beginning of 2021 and under the regulations that limit wind tunnel time for top teams (currently 63% for RB after the cost cap breach) and increase it for bottom teams (currently 115% for AT) its results have been going the wrong way consistently...

2021

2 - Red Bull - 585.5
6 - AlphaTauri - 142

2022
↑1 - Red Bull - 759↑
↓9 - AlphaTauri - 35↓

2023 (to date)
↑1 - Red Bull - 630↑
↓10 - AlphaTauri - 5↓

🤷‍♂️

Going back to this tire pit stops, wouldn't that mean though all the driver can just drive flat out and not worry too much about managing the tire life knowing that they can only go up to 18 laps on them?

We saw yesterday that at least the softs don't survive that long

Potentially. Certainly in the medium and hard it’s likely.

What I think will be interesting is the strategy’s themselves, because every car can’t pit on lap 18, especially if team mates are running close together, double stacks are out of the window. Will be interesting to see who gets priority strategy in first stops and such.

Also, a perfect 3 stop will be pitting every 14 laps (in terms of approximate stint length, 14, 28, 42) so be interesting to see if any one does that and absolutely wring the life of the tyres.

This whole tire safety ordeal has a bit of Indy 2005 vibe. I think I read Haas does not have any fresh tires and may be looking at 4+ pit stops according to these rules and the life on their tires.

This kind of reminds me of Canada 2010. If this race turns into a classic then i can totally see F1 trying to make mandated stops a permanent thing.
