Just wanted to announce a major rule change

Liveries are now free - meaning teammates do not have to have the same cars. Its just too much of a hassle, and its also at times difficult to tell who is in which car. Also numbers are now irrelevant, as its too much of a hassle to renumber the cars.

Found this nifty "TV style" mod. Helps keep track of whats going on in the race so when I upload the video to youtube you wont be lost. Keeps track of alot of cool stuff, fast laps, number of pit stops, last lap time, gaps between the drivers, really really cool stuff. And I've only scratched the surface of what it can do.

Guys get your friends to come sign up, this is going to be really good

EDIT #1: Just uploaded a sampler of the TV style timing that will be used. I have also upgraded everything to [HD]. Used some 'support race' cars to show how it looks like, as I dont want to spoil the real thing with openwheel cars. The catch to the TV style timing is that it doesnt work in replay mode, so I have to do it live. Theres a few hotkeys I have to remember to bring up certain stats etc but I'll work at getting better at it.

If this gets popular enough I might even open a feeder series using slower openwheel cars



EDIT #2: While 'bug testing' (watching the AI race looking for ways to improve pretty much everything or find problems) there was a massive crash I'd thought I should upload. One of the cars lost a wing a few corners before the incident and was going slow. That car got tagged from behind and spun into the wall and then back out onto the track in front of speeding traffic coming out of Ascari at Monza. The result was a nasty collision. Why was I testing at Monza? Im desperately trying to get the Italian Grand Prix to be there instead of Imola. The problem is Monza has always become a wreckfest as the AI for whatever reason has trouble staying on the track coming out of the slow speed chicanes. With my latest adjustments I think it may be ready. This crash was not related to the issues I have been having at Monza though, it was completely random, something I havent seen before.

Guys, sorry about making another 180 but Im going to go ahead and scratch the team aspect of this series.

Cars will now be 'solo', sharing of setups between anyone is not allowed. All teams have been dissolved.

I wouldnt do this if I didnt think it was for the better of the series now and in the future. Doing this means I am no longer able to be part of the championship. Hope that shows you guys I think thats the right way to go moving forward. Thank you for cooperating gentlemen.


Test Day rules are as follows:

- For each test day there will be two 1 hour long practice sessions. Each driver is to submit 2 setups for each test day, one setup for each session. At the end of the testing day I will post the results of each session publicly and will let you know privately which setup you had for which session so you can evaluate your performance.

- There will be two test days, June 3rd, and June 6th.

The procedure with a Grand Prix is similar to a test day, except there is only one practice session, not 2. You send me a setup for a 1 hour practice at the track and Ill report the times back in this thread for everyone to see. The setup you choose next will be your qualifying AND race setup.

If you have any questions or suggedtions, please let me know.

So I made a very bad custom skin as a test but dose anyone know how to fix my problem. Basically my wing and helmet don't go with the skin of the car. I even have a .veh file as well. There also also a wing and helmet skin to choose which just makes the car have a default skin. Basically the car looks like the picture down bellow when you just chose the car body skin. Not exactly sure whats going on, but I think its one of these issues

#1 Did you edit the wing.dds file with your custom skin? These cars require a base.dds file as well as a basewing.dds.

#2 If you have painted a custom wing.dds file, have you renamed it (yourskinname)Wing.dds?

#3 Be sure to there arent any other .dds files in the folder that may interfere with your custom base.dds and basewing.dds files

Oh and the car looks great

I painted a wing template and name it mcgill_racing_wing.dds and the body is named mcgill_racing.dds

Also there is nothing else interfering with the custom skin. I made a folder inside the car team with the skins and named a folder "Skins" and placed it there.

Try removing the second underscore in the wing file, making it mcgill_racingWing.dds. Also be sure the .veh file points towards your base livery.

The line in the .veh file should look like: DefaultLivery="mcgill_racing.dds"

It worked thanks, I just need to tweak some things now.

EDIT: The helmet dose not work when you chose the skin but putting it in the helmets folder and choosing it in settings makes the helmet work for some reason.

Ran a complete simulation of the Australian Grand Prix today. Everything worked fine, and I can assure you I will never get upset at a race director ever again, its a difficult job. But after completing the simulation I noticed a few things so I'm changing a few rules to make the racing better

- Length of races will now be 200 kms instead of 300 kms.
- To ensure 2 pitstops per 200km race the fuel tank size has been reduced 33%, from 133 liters to 90 liters.
- If over 11 cars sign up, the test days will feature two separate groups of cars to ensure the best laps are run and traffic is not a factor. Other then that, testing rules remain the same.
 
Good idea scrapping the teams. Will be too hard and I dont think everyone would co-operate. Ever played batracer?? Annoying when your team mate doesnt respond lol

Maybe if we dont get enough players and we can make our solo cars a two car team? Would be great for experimenting with setups! See how we go I guess

Good idea about using 2 car teams if enough people dont join. Hope it doesnt come to that though. Would be a shame. Im watching these races and theres some really thrilling stuff. At Australia the winner won by 20 seconds, but at China the same AI car using the best random setup I generated was dominating again, but spun late allowing 2nd to catch up. Then the leader got caught in traffic and 2nd made the winning pass with 2 laps to go.

Hopefully we get at least 15, otherwise I'll have to find a way to add depth to the field. Im thinking about getting a car for me back into the field. To do it and be fair Ill use a 100% 50/50 setup. Meaning if the downforce options are 1-20 my car will run 10. If a certain shock's options are 1-21 Ill run 10. And that will be my setup for every race. I dont expect to be fast the car is really just there to take up space. But importantly theres a name attached to it.

I would like to join I'll take the number 19 just like in NASCAR's series. I will need someone to create mine as i'll want the snail logo on it as well as the orlando magic logo as well. And for my helmet make it look like a basketball. Thanks
