Welcome to the Formula Drift 2012 Thread

In the past two rounds I've seen people talking about what happened in the events in different threads, so after a quick search & finding nothing I thought it would be a good idea to make a Formula Drift 2012 thread where everyone join & discuss about the events, post pictures, news, etc. It would've probably been better to do it before the season started but better late than never. I hope the people from the drifting community & everyone else who joins in on the discussion like this. Remember to keep this a civilized discussion please. ;)

I guess you didn't search hard enough...

Formula Drift.

Well it didn't pop up on the search & from the looks of it it's kind of dead, plus I didn't see no one from the GTP drifting community in there. Just trying to make something new & fresh no need to be so un-supportive. :indiff:

Good stuff Mav. When I go to Round 4 Ill post some pictures from it.

Lucky you Eric!! Can't wait for this weekend also. Hoping Daigo gets a better result than 3rd place  I also would like to see Mike Essa & DeNofa get in the Great 8 at least.

Good idea mav. I like to have one here in the Drifting section where the drifting people are and I also wish the best of luck to the both BMW Madmen Essa and Denofa. Denofas style overall is impressive, so much smoke and angle and Essa killed it with his backwards entry in Atlanta, he's awesome in his Z4

Local from around here. He does pro-am, he was in the final 4 at Atlanta. This was the first car I rode in, lets just say when you go 100 sideways your hooked.

Thanks GAUZ. That's what I like about DeNofa too, great style & he doesn't seem shy of tossing his car sideways like some of the rookies this year that need a bit more confidence in themselves.

@SPANK: Odi's chances look promising this year.

@Eric: I saw him in R2 in the Pro-Am Top 16. Sick looking machine.

One of my favorites this year, DeNofa:

Well mys well help Mav with bringing this forum to life some more. Last week end Formula D China took place. There was a team drift battle where team USA which consisted of Chris "The Force" Forsberg, Matt "Matty Cakes" Powers, and Vaughn Gitten "Jr" took the win. Overall Vaughn took the win beating D1GP Veteran Feng Ren Zhi. There was a one more time, but then on the final run Feng's throttle cable broke giving "Jr" the win.

You can see more at speedhunters.

Oh yeah I saw that on Facebook. In my opinion Vaughn has the potential to take a win anywhere he goes, I mean, the Drift King himself called Vaughn the best drifter from America. I need to check that out, there must be some really great pics, & videos I hope.

Going to have to put my mod mask on and call this as being in the very wrong section. Unless we're relating to GT5 specifically it should be relocated, especially with the recent issues we had in D-Max from being called off-topic :/

Honestly, to where, the Automotive section where no one really cares about drifting, were there is a Formula Drift thread that was dead for 3 years... I really wouldn't want that for this thread, especially with the good start it has... the people in this section, we, are the ones who really care about drifting.

I liked the battle between Daigo and Vaughn, I love them both, So seeing my two favorite drifters was so exciting, The result ended up by daigo going wide on line and vaughn couldn't give Dai enough transition space so contact was made, I t was a fair win by Daigo Saito because of vaughn's spin and contact but on overall it was a killing brain battle, Loved it....
Also was asking my self how the heck did Dai lost against Tuerck , The battle most probably should have gone to one more time as both did a good run, But that looked no way as a adv to tuerck, Tuercks chase started good but on the exit of the horse shoe he tryed to had an agressive transaction but lost some angle to catch up with Dai, Dai had a pretty consistant lead and chase run, His lead run almost being a book run should have give him an advantage at the most or either a 5-5, On the chase, Dai had a nasty initiation right on Ryan's door, he got a little gap but immidiatly catched him up on the early start of the horse shoe. As in my opinion it should've probably be a OMT (like any Fd judge should've done, Apperently that day they were even more of a mess).

@Shiro: Yeah that battle between Saito & Gittin was nerve wrecking, but like you said it was a fair win because Vaughn's job as chaser was to use Daigo as a moving clipping point. That being said, it was clearly a horrible call from the judges in the Daigo vs Aasbo battle. Yes, Daigo went shallow entering the keyhole but Aasbo had to follow his line, instead he went wide entering. In my opinion, Daigo would have won it by a bit due to his great chase run, the least it could've been was a One More Time.

Great thread; keep it here!

Is there some way i can see the action live via internet this weekend?

Yep, through the Driftstream. Here's two links for watching it starting tomorrow with practices & qualifyings.

Nice, its great you created a new thread here, the other thread is dead and will continue to be like that if it stayed over there in that section of the forum.

I went to a Formula Drift Asia event about three weeks back and posted some pics in said dead thread if anyone wants to have a look :)

I was actually following everything that had to do with this car through Facebook before the season started & was really pumped to see him run at Long Beach. Really a bummer what happened to him in LB & in Atlanta too. :indiff:

Thanks for the support. Feel free to post some of those pics here if you want. ;) 👍
