Modern Retro Schemes Volume #3 is out!

And as promised, this time around it's the 2000 Arrows A21. Tracking down the company history of each sponsor was nothing compared to finding period-accurate logos:
  • Orange UK originated as the merger of many different companies (including Matra, bizarrely enough) before merging with T-Mobile in 2005. T-Mobile in itself was part of another company known as Mercury Communications, which in hindsight should have been the company I used but in the end decided to trace back to the present owner of T-Mobile; Deutsche Telekom, which started out as a branch under the Bundespost, now Deutsche Post
  • chello was introduced in 1998 by the European branch of Liberty Media, which at the time was known as a separate company; UnitedGlobalCom. Liberty Media was founded in 1991 as a spin-off of TCI - Tele-Communications Inc, who produced the first widespread digital television service in America known as CableVision
  • Lost Boys (now LBi) was a software company founded by Michiel Mol in 1993. Mol's father, Jan, had a much earlier company called Volmac (now known as CapGemini) which also dealt with IT
  • Eurobet was acquired by the Gala Coral Group in 1999, and try as I might I was unable to find a clean version of the Coral logo used in the 80s and 90s so I had to grab a photo of an outdated shop facade and clean it up in Vector Magic
It also turns out that Repsol very rarely used a typeface prior to its 1987 rebranding, and when they did it was plain old Helvetica with the stylized R, so that's what I used in the end.

At the moment it's available in four different colour configurations; orange/black as per the real car, yellow/black as Deutsche Post would've used back then (and still do), and inverse versions of those two paintjobs.

I think the default orange color already suits the retro looks nicely. But if you want to fit with accurate color scheme for Deutsche Post (was Bundespost, as seen here), then it has to be yellow/black. The inverted version were also good by the way.

I appreciate your effort to go deep into each sponsors history and origins then put them in the description. Quite educational I guess. Anyway, keep up the good work! 👍

Decided I wasn't yet done with the Renault nor the Arrows, so made two new paints for each to comprise Volume #3.5. Renault has a yellow/black paintjob like it does nowadays, and a gold/white/red combo I envisioned in case Cabin would've made gold the main colour rather than red, so not to be similar to their F3000 entry at the time:

And with regards to Arrows, I knew I forgot something! I forgot to paint it in the contemporary colour scheme the team used at the time, so I made a regular/inverse version of the car in cream/dark red:

As for my next car, vote here: https://www.strawpoll.me/15350919

The two most voted cars will be chosen to make up Volumes #4 and #5 respectively. Then I'll take a hiatus to paint some of the next DLC's cars and hopefully attract some more attention, before returning to the task at hand.

That's really cool with the tyre decals, it will give the effect of the car hovering along lol.

I know I know... but this had to be done and I wanted to do it

I my humble opinion, and as I could only find 2 others that tried, mine is so far the best out there :sly: but other more skilled people can probably do better but still....

Anyway, I started out to do just an ‘inspired by’ type of livery, but then, as many may have experienced, you’re like “oh just this logo there too... and oh this one too” and before you know it, you’re pretty much making a pretty decent replica :P

Search for “mclaren”, “senna” or “spongeinside” to find it in-game :)

Hope you’ll enjoy it!

How did you make the underside black but still red on the vertical pieces connecting to the front wing?

On mine, I'm trying to make it appear open-wheel in the front. You know how the new Renault F1 car looks all yellow from straight on? I'm trying to do that to those wheel fenders but with black. This will make it look like a tire from anyone looking in their rear-view. I'm using the top view but the shape of the fender is really weird

I've been trying and can't find the right angle of attack but can someone PLEASE make some Martini striped RBX Juniors PLEASE?!

So, would anyone be willing to recreate the censored Lotus 97T livery from GT6 for the F1500? Only difference is 'John Player Special' is replaced with 'Team Lotus Special'.

I had a day off today, so what better to do than spend it making a livery? :P

The car I tried to recreate seemed so be different in pretty much every picture I could find of it. So the version I made is a ‘average’ of all of them :)
