Forza 4 - Shift 2 owners what are your thoughts?

I have never played Forza. Can anyone enlighten me what the physics are like....in comparison with GT5 and Shift2?

The FF, body roll, tire model, tire deformation, handling of cars from rwd, to fwd, feel outstanding. Best I have seen in a console game.

Vaxx you played Shift2 a lot. In your opinion, does the physics of FM4 lean towards GT5 or to Shift2?

Neither. At the end of the day FM4 has better fluidity than both. You can "feel" body roll, you can "feel" when the tires are on the cusp of losing grip, you can "feel" the suspension bottoming out, when there's too much camber or toe, etc.

There's a lot to do in 4. A lot.

iv never met you b4 t-12 but hi, 👍

*Waves*

It is good to know. I have never played FM and from what you and Vaxx have stated, it is a worthwhile game to get. I guess I have to start saving for a Fanatec wheel and Xbox. No way I can play a racing game with a controller. Thank you for the reply....my wife is going to hate you :)

You know that there is a demo in the xbox marketplace, right? Maybe try that out first if you didnt already. I was very impressed from the videos back when FM3 was released (remember, that was before GT5) until I played the demo and the driving was... kinda crap tbh.

mmm I tried to find a store with a demo but nothing here. Steve lives in a bigger city and could not find one either. It is a lot of money to fork out on one game, then to find out you don't like the physics. If it is sterile like GT5 I will shoot myself :guilty:

Late to the party here (his thread) but I was, and still am, a huge Shift 2 fan. I have put in many hours (PS3) and still think it is one of the most immersive racing sims to date on the consoles.
With that said, I too have switched to the Xbox for my virtual racing. Forza 4 has lived up to the pre-release hype in my opinion. I wasn't too impressed after trying the demo but I seem to remember the same happening when I first picked up Shift 2. IMO, Forza 4 is the total package for car lovers. There is so much to do and not enough time to do it all. I am not saying it's the best at everything, no racing game is, but hits the nail on the head in most. It has something for almost everyone - car and track selection, very complete tuning functionality, a very capable livery editor (I "tried" to use Shift 2's :yuck:), Rivals/Leaderboards (Autolog!), great photomode, auction house, graphics and sound to the limits of the current generation consoles, and it doesn't crash (don't have to explain this one!).
With my new cross-platform wheel and pedals (ready for the next latest and greatest on PC, PS3, or Xbox) the feedback of the car/racing is fantastic.
Now that I have an Xbox, I do plan on re-purchasing Shift 2 as I always heard it was better on the Xbox. Also plan on F1 2010 on Xbox for same reason but no time for anything other than Forza at this point.

I am not partial to any platform - it's all about the software!

Note: One thing I don't miss is trying to compete with Steve182rs :)

Similar in objective (driving/racing/car enthusiast sim), but I cannot play GT5. The menu system, sound, lack of visual damage, AI competition, lack of human competition comparison (AutoLog, Rival, Leaderboards), and focus on Japanese cars in GT5 just doesn't do it for me.

EDIT:
...
10. Online. Wow. The best. Online damage, online heats, online teams, car clubs, private races, public races, 16 cars and DAMAGE. Also you can save online replays, and even watch the telemetry from any car in the race. Basically you can set up league races with ease. The biggest pro over S2? No collision issues, and no huge lag spikes. You can draft someone 2 feet in front of you.
...

Forgot to even mention "Online"! Loved racing with you guys with Shift 2 but the collision detection was so bad it ruined the experience (and the crashing with some high PI cars and tracks). I have only raced a few times with Forza online (with Vaxxtx) but it was great to be able to race side-by-side or ride the bumper of the other competitors waiting for the best overtaking point. Can't even express how much more fun this provided.

Zee, where is the next Game Stop from your place? Dunno about Wales but here in Germany you can ask them to put in any game on their demo xbox/PS3s and if they got the time and you re not a 12 yr old kid asking "can I play the new Pokemon Ultraball Z HD 5 for 2 hours please?" it shouldnt be a problem.

Thank you Fuzzy for your response my friend. I agree about value for money as you have mentioned. Buying an Xbox and cross platform wheel will be close to £750.00. A lot of hard earned cash! Vaxx has also mentioned FM4 is a well rounded game, and coming from two Shift2 racers, it is a very tempted idea. I spoke to someone this week and he also mentioned how he misses bumper to bumper racing, which is very difficult in SU2.

Flx there is no Game Stop in the UK as far as I am aware. Only 'Game' and the one closes to me does not have a wheel setup for trying out any racing game. Sucks to be honest

Well, I finally got round to trying the demo that I downloaded on to the Xbox, and first impressions are good. 👍

It enables you to drive 3 different cars (Fezza 458, Subaru and a Muscle car) in 2 lap races at a Swiss track, with normal ability to change AI difficulty and basic assists, but no tuning.
Adlso able to adjust view in the demo, and even cockpit view wasn't bad at all.

In-between admiring the magnificent Alpine scenery I was able to push through from the back of the field and enjoy some good racing. :)

I'll be buying it.

Just had a bash of a demo in hmv, felt and looked like GT5 really a bit dull. Only a 5min play tho, but it dint make me wana spend over £500 on a Xbox and a wheel
