I laughed when I heared of the 60fps performance and 30fps quality mode. Is it really like this in PS5 Pro? Microsoft locking the framerates to not reveal the superiority of the rival console? šŸ˜‚
You have the same two options no matter what the console, yes. As @Jordan and I note in the above video, a Pro Enhanced version is a glaring omission, but the Pro does deliver a better experience - by effectively giving you the PS5's quality mode while at 60fps while in performance mode - as you'd probably expect.

I've never seen the reported cutscene issue on Xbox Series X (but then I don't run quality mode; 30fps is jarring), but I have seen it happen once on PS5 Pro despite not being in quality mode.

I very much prefer how it handles on DualSense to the Xbox controller, even outwith the adaptive trigger support for braking.

Otherwise it's pretty much preserved, foibles and all (it still sometimes plays the wrong subtitles, even early on!) - including showing you 44 Playlists you've not completed because they weren't available. Also I've since noted that my Playlist completion on PS5 carries to XSX - but I use the same Microsoft account for both.

FH5 was really the only reason I turned the XSX on. Now I don't have one.

@Jordan said he had to turn the racing line off so he wasn't staring at the screen. I'm not a skilful enough driver to gauge turns at speed without braking indicators. Fortunately, there's a compromise in that there's an option to only have a short section of racing line displayed when you turn a corner.

*four years newer console which costs over 50% more
I wonder when the big outcry will start over the necessity of the MS Account.
I'm waiting for people to complain that it's not grindy enough...

That a Microsoft account is required is neither unusual (thanks, Ubisoft and EA) nor - given that quite a lot of people will have one already - particularly inconvenient.

It's more the fact it's a one-time-association. You can pair your PSNID with your MSA once and once only. No changes allowed, and if you lose access to your MSA you lose access to the game.

Okay, I'm in (again). GT has gone a bit stale and TCM just didn't scratch the itch.

My 200 hours on the Xbox version were 3 years ago and all streaming via xCloud, so it'll be like a new experience with the full 4K/60 and the Hot Wheels/Rally expansions. See you all in Mexico.

Huh. I just switched from playing it on PS5 to the Xbox and it told me I was logged in somewhere else and it would terminate that session...

Along with the new game on PS5 registering 68 areas discovered and 250 bonus boards smashed, and the Xbox registering Playlist points acquired on PS5, it seems that they're not quite as separate (when paired to the same MSA) as they're supposed to be.

Console warriors will show up before that... Anyways, who doesn't have and old Hotmail/Live/Outlook e-mail account lying around? That's the ticket.
There already were some people (on this boards) who said they dont have any such.

But turning this around people like to sign for anything useless without a 2nd thought.

Kind of an impulse buy.. might be stupid since I played it a lot already a few years ago on my PC when I had gamepass.
Should be fun though, it's a great arcade racer! Looks amazing too. I'll put some hours into it I'm sure.

I wonder if it'll look any better on the PS5 Pro than it did on my ancient i7 6700K PC with an RTX 3070 in it three years ago? šŸ¤”
Not sure because it looked pretty amazing back then.

I would of tried it if it was on PS4 and in physical format. I have a PS5 but hate the controller and only use it as a PS4 Pro.
But the big issue is digital only...no way...like what if i don't like it? There is no way to get any money back like with a physical copy.

Was lucky to have snagged a digital code for the PS5 version somewhere from a giveaway for the Premium edition and the Nissan Retro Rides car pack, so I might give it a go once this is done downloading, and I might compare it to the Xbox Series X version.

for me seems very Arcade-like
Its effectively same physics engine as in FM7, but numbers are tweaked for easier handling. There is much more depth then in Crew or NFS, but its still feels arcadish.

When new players unlock The Gauntlet (or the other mega races) they will find out this is not just a "point your car and mash the throttle" kind of game. There is nuance to the inputs, and car class/builds/tuning can make a difference. It is on the easier side of things though, so most of the driving assists are not needed at all.

you seem stuck in the past in more than one way..

Does it fully support adaptive triggers?
Seems to. I watched one of the YouTube videos and it was mentioned that the brake trigger is by default stiffer than the accelerator trigger, and you can feel force pushback when braking, simulating ABS.

I'm waiting for a detailed review from GTP as a final verdict.

As my only recent similar-ish racing experience (Physics wise) is basically Dirt 5, How does this compare? Just wondering what to expect should I get lucky enough to actually get the game.

DiRT 5 is more of a specific skills-focused rally game. FH5 is more like Tony Hawk's American Wasteland in cars. My teenage nephew called the previous game "GTA without the killing" which, while somewhat worrying about his psyche, is a fair summation of the open ended nature of the game as you roam around a vast GPS-directed level accruing cash and automobiles while performing optional stunts and occasionally destroying scenery for points which enhance individual vehicles' ability to earn more points. You can regularly take part in easy races for money. Perhaps a better description would be Grand Theft Auto without the theft. Because you already have a **** ton of cars.

Physics wise it's like Forza Motorsport but with a greatly simplified tyre grip component which enables the player to drive on sand, snow, mud and water without trashing the vehicle. On road it pretty much behaves similarly to a normal vehicle as far as I can tell. Cars have real weight to them turning corners and behave fairly predictably. That poster who said they turn on a vertical axis... well, I don't know what he was talking about. In cockpit or bonnet view it certainly doesn't feel like that to me.

I can't really blame PS5-only owners for getting a twinge of cold feet. But I don't think this is a game you can judge purely by watching videos. When the first Forza Horizon was released in October 2012 X360 owners had the advantage of a limited pre release demo which gave them an idea of what to expect gameplay wise. Nowadays Microsoft prefer to monetise their demo sessions as GamePass so they no longer release demos.

This is a bit of a shame because this is quite unlike any racing game which came before it and benefits from hands on experience. Crew Motorfest had a free early access programme but it flattered to deceive as the good stuff was front loaded and it kind of ran out for me after I was suckered into plonking down the cash.

Admittedly there's less to do in FH5 once you reach the Hall Of Fame and complete the scripted stories but they aim to give you a weekly shopping list of tasks to keep the spark burning or at least smouldering on while giving you a chance to top up your comprehensive collection of cars.

i played it on pc back when it first came out and it was kinda meh. the only way i'd be tempted to give it another go on ps5 is if it had PSVR2 support, and that does not appear to be the case. so, 100% DoA for me.

here's to some healthy competition in the space though. if PD has been cooking, soon would be a good time to serve it up.
