Maybe it's me but I figure PG will wait to see how well the PS port of FH5 is received (following the inevitable initial cycle of bug fixes and optimisation) before even thinking about a release strategy for its successor.
I mean, FH4 on Steam was announced in February 2021 and launched in March 2021 before FH5 was announced in June 2021, FH5 on PS5 was announced in February of this year and will be coming this month, yes it's a month later than FH4's launch on Steam in 2021 but still, a June 2025 announcement is inevitable

To be fair, Steam FH4 wasn't an entirely new version of the game. The game was already a tried and tested seller on PC. But we'll see what happens in a couple of months.

I know I have not posted this in a long time but bear with me.

Well we don't know that for sure. Could very well happen, but it might get some competition considering American Truck Simulator is expanding their lineup to include actual cars (which is going to be more or less a paid attachment to ATS itself) to go along with its ever-expanding map of North America.
I'm late to the party but I was aware of FH5 getting a PS5 port, which was totally unexpected.

I can't find a single thing about cars being added to ATS. Do you have any links, would certainly be interesting?

Edit: Found it

Sounds great but I'm not sure how much of a threat it'll pose to the Horizon series on non-PC and Mac platforms.

Well, it's mostly a side project that has been in the making for quite some time. American Truck Simulator as a whole needs to evolve beyond the typical semi trucks and the large world of not just the US but probably into Canada or Mexico. So far, here's what we know:

  • We only have a handful of confirmed models; one of them is a 2024 Nissan GT-R (currently GT7 has one, now ATS is set to get it)
  • They are looking into a wider variety of vehicles a la Test Drive Unlimited/Driver San Francisco route. This means flagship trucks, cars and classic American vehicles.
  • This project is a seamless transition, meaning it won't directly affect the trucking menu.
  • The cars will come in packs and the so-called Road Trip will not be free.
  • We only have Ford, Dodge and Nissan products as of this writing, and it may be subject to changes. Getting other licenses, and therefore other cars, leans on Road Trip's success.
  • Given the recent backend changes to both ATS and ETS2, including the full implementation of PhysX, it seems likely those came into the limelight
  • This project could take up to about one or two years.
  • If the Road Trip experiment works, it could very well expand to ETS2, but it hasn't been fully confirmed.
  • SCS plans to dole out blogs dedicated to the project, including vehicle sourcing.
  • SCS has assembled a separate team to do Road Trip-related content to avoid conflicting the roadmap of future trucks/expansion/etc.
  • It may be possible that the maps will have to undergo extensive changes, especially with the large-scale map they made over the past nine years since ATS has been on sale. The reason for this is the inclusion of scenic routes and, to a lesser extent, accessibility to city centers.

So far it looks promising. But as a PC only title (and FH5 is on PC anyway) it'll be limited, at least in terms of competition. There has been talk on its forums about breaking into the console market, but it's still going to take time to see it become a reality.

I wonder if the modding community has influenced them with just a matter of obtaining licensing, b/c I know making other vehicles usable is pretty popular. The idea to potentially use these vehicles to expand gameplay like maybe using a pickup dually w/ a trailer to do jobs would be interesting.

Sorry for OT, back to Horizon and guessing how Japan & it being unveiled this year is going to play out. :P

I have always thought, if there's going to be a reveal, it will be around the weekend of the 20th anniversary in May and not during the June showcase.

However, some people may now know what FM23 is mainly doing for the anniversary and they may be taking that into account now when wondering whether that fits with a FH6 reveal or not.

It will be interesting to see whether the post PS5 launch support is just reruns of prior series continuing via votes as is now (which would seem to suggest an earlier FH6 release) or if something gets announced for FH5 post Horizon Realms (which would suggest a later release), as I don’t think they have talked beyond Realms release yet? But personally, I'm expecting Realms to wrap up the FH5 support and nothing further new to appear.

In any case, they will have to rerun ALL the series in the period after PS5 launch, to ensure that noone on PS5 misses out on any reward cars/clothes etc. That includes the reruns of the last 3 months as none of that content has been available to PS5 players, so those will need to come round again in the future.

I think them using a Xbox showcase will fit better since that ultimately works better for Microsoft. The 20th Anniversary should have some special surprises of its own to make fans happy.

As far as the PS5 release, since it's being handled by another developer, I would assume it will go as you said with them using reruns so the PS5 community can experience the game as PG originally laid out.

So here is where I stand with FH5.

I haven't played the game since they stopped the monthly content around six weeks ago, however I am definitely going to be back on once Horizon Realms launches in 10 days and I'm looking forward to it. I can't wait to complete all the accolades to get the four new cars and I'll also get the Nissan car pack too.

The PS5 thing is interesting for me, because I do own one as well an Xbox. Despite FH5 being around three-and-a-half years old I am interested in starting the game all over again...but not for full price. I'm not paying full whack for an almost four year old game that I have already been playing, that opinion might change though!

45 million players according to the Horizon Superstar leaderboard, and over 3,000 cheating accounts on ridiculous scores.

Surely it can't be that hard to remove any score on that board above maybe 2 million or 3 million. I rinsed the exploit I admit that let you replay stories chapters for points but I did that playing a lot of FH5, any score over 3 million has to be cheating by modding I'd say.

PS5 players will not want to see these leaderboards in game filled with all these cheating scores, distances, speeds etc.

I decided to start working on the achievement for driving on all roads in the Hot Wheels expansion.

The Realms reward cars have been dripped by the YouTubers, and we got some OEM customization, specifically having the ability to turn the Exige 430 into the Exige Sport 380 and some factory bumpers for the RAM Mammoth.

So the Exige is S1? Okay I'm actually kinda impressed. That absolutely pencils it in as a Track Toy. The Mammoth being a B-class car isn't surprising but... since it's not a 4x4 would it actually fall into the Offroad class? We'll have to see later, I guess.

Occam's Razor explanation is that they're expecting a lot of those new PS5 players to come from Japan and so they need Japanese language social accounts to cover that new span of the fandom. Japanese players don't usually own American consoles so now that these guys can play Forza, it only makes sense that they get their own social media account.

If it is indeed Japan... I want, WANT, a Speed Racer-themed expansion.
While I'd like to see a Bernoulli Convergenator engine-swap option as much as anybody, I agree with HokiHoshi that this is exactly the problem with setting the game in the Land of the Rising Sun. Everyone has their expectations raised sky-high and there's no way they'll be able to keep everyone satisfied.

I'll bet the 'silly expansion' will either be a return to LEGO or possibly even another Fast and Furious expansion like FH2. They'll want something with global appeal rather than just some niche thing only JDM gearheads would flock to--theming anything after Initial D or Wangan Midnight would probably confuse a lot of folks, since I'll wager most people haven't seen either show.

Hell, since the two Donut Media Series proved that crossover stuff could work outside of Top Gear, I'd expect that sort of stuff to be relegated to Festival Playlist things or Car Packs. An Initial D car pack where you'd get Shigeno's AE86 would be pretty darn neat indeed if they could pull it off.

What would be pretty sad I think, because this is the opportunity to introduce other aspects of car culture, from different parts of of the world to a bigger audience. But yeah experience showed that this isn’t how Playground thinks, at least when it comes to expansions.
But for now at least when it comes to cars, they’re already showing (if Japan is the next location) that they can add some special vehicles with the Nissan car pack or the other Japanese car pack. Hope for some more like this, like the Aspark Owl, Tommy Kaira ZZ, Toyota Century, classics like the Mazda Cosmo, Subaru 360, Hino Contessa, Isuzu Bellet, the first Silvia, a lot of cars for the Japanese market only, Kei cars.. oh man there’s so much they could do with it!😅
