Forza Horizon Demo Trailer 9th October

There are whole sections that would be worth romping about in an SUV. You can get air and tumble and roll over the rocks and dirt. The demo also includes shortcuts through farm yards.

It goes way over 4ft., if you want to talk realistic numbers. Just not beyond sight of the road (so far).

Nice demo! I will surely fall in love with this one! The Mustang race is a proper D1-event! Sideways action all the way!

I also like the fact they put those "rivals" things in the demo. It's neat that you see your friends speeds at the cameras and so on! 👍

edit: Anyone else feel like the demo free-roam car should be something RWD instead of the EVO? ;)

Perhaps once you get into the desert portions of the map there will be like an open area for the off road vehicles with a couple jumps and whatnot? I've only been playing for about 10 minutes, so I don't think there are any such areas in the demo.

But I hope they included an area like I described above. Watching the US Top Gear test the Ford SVT Raptor in an episode from the first season made me hope that we can do something similar in this game.

No matter what else is in the full game, I'm glad I preordered it now that I've played the demo. I can see I'll be spending countless hours just driving around on the roads and exploring. I went into the demo knowing that they called it an Action Racer, knowing that it won't be full simulation or anything, but came away impressed with how realistic they still managed to make it. Can't wait to play the full game!!!

This is awesome!

I'm just sad now that I have to write about it instead of play it.

If anyone wants any screen caps I'll be happy to oblige once I've finished the article.

Pics are always appreciated. 👍
Is the golf course in the demo? They showed it in the trailer for the demo.

After playing and exploring all the roads you get to drive on in the demo, adding in the amount of time on these forums reading about it, it is everything I was expecting it to be.

It kind of feels like I'm driving around in the world of Red Dead Redemption. Beautiful scenery, the night time is amazing. The headlights of the cars look pretty realistic, with how they reflect on the road surface and how far they light up the road ahead. The reflections and lighting in the game in general looks to be more true to real life compared to Forza 4, but I think this has more to do with the dynamic day/night cycle, than improved graphics. If you stop the car and just admire the landscape, you'll notice the trees slightly swaying in the virtual breeze. You might see some birds(mountain hawks perhaps?) flying in the distance. When it starts to get dark, you'll begin to hear crickets making their night time soundtrack(with the music/radio volume off). It really is quite amazing the amount of detail they incorporated into the game.

Driving the Evo around on the dirt and paved roads felt pretty good with the controller as well. It made me wish I had the $300 for the Fanatec CSR wheel, so I could cruise around and drive like I would in real life. It would make driving around on the smooth curved and banked roads even more satisfying.

That brings me to the feeling I get after playing the demo, despite just using the Xbox controller. It was satisfying. Drifting around on the dirt roads, attacking the S-bends and curves, and even though I'm using the regular controller, I could still get a sense of feeling the car catch grip after each slide and drift. The physics do have a different feel to them compared to Forza 4, but they're by no means arcade. I have the ABS set to on, steering simulation, traction control off, and it honestly feels great for this type of game, especially compared to the other games in the open world driving/racing genre.

All in all, like I said before, I'm glad I pre-ordered it. Got it coming from Newegg for $45 bucks when they had a special sale a couple months ago.

Quick question though, has anyone used a wheel with the demo yet? How's the experience compared to using the normal gamepad?

Downloaded it this morning. First impressions: TWO THUMBS UP! Nice graphics and the control is sweet (using the old 360 wheel). Cool intro and tunes too. The free ride is neat. I am just glad its not a Burnout type sim where you need to run everyone off the road as the primary objective.

The intro race with the Viper was very cool. Excellent in-car view. Then the dirt run with the Evo was great and noticed the car had good controlled drift. Everything was quite responsive in the handling. I had to jet to work, so I will do some more tonight. Good job gang!!

Very good. Using a GT2 I kept my settings from F4 and it worked fine right out of the box.
Much better on wheel than TDU1/2 Burnout etc. which felt to me to have some sort of central pivot point going on.

Not my cup if tea really. I'm not into open world hooning about.
For lovers off TDU etc its a fantastic title. Surprised his smooth it feels at 30FPS perhaps it's locked at that.

Couldn't stop looking at the drivers watch in cockpit lol.

I watched the entire 22 minute video above of the gameplay video. It looks pretty good. Reminds me a lot of Pro-street and other NFS games in many ways. Also as Dan mentioned its main road and dirt road restricted. There are either invisible walls or guard rails to keep you on the track. Which can be a good thing so you dont fly too far off the road and instantly lose.

As I said before, its not a full open world game as many are believing it will be and as they are marketing. So as long as you go into this knowing its not a free roaming sandbox game, I think most will appreciate it for what it is. Compared to Forza 4 yes its free roaming. I will play the demo tonight but at this point I still plan on renting the game. It does look good though. 👍

Initial thoughts.... (Using Fanatec PWTS, standard Porsche pedals, sim steering, ABS was only assist used.)

Demo is pretty good. Rivals is addicting as ever. Maybe even more so in Horizon than FM4.

Dirt roads are quite fun to drive fast on.

The IBL has definitely been tweaked and looks much better.

Physics have also been tweaked, however it is still definitely very FM4 like. I just find it a little more grippy. Easily the best physics on any open road game.

Recreation of the full (?) map:

DARN IT! I can't download it because it's for Gold members only!
You can find gold on sale for around $30.00 a year. Thats only $2.50 a month and well worth it.
On sale right now for $40.00 a year on Amazon. Thats only $3.33 a month. Also usually if you sign up for gold, you get a month free.

Somebody want to know something about the demo? I'm about to play some more (on Fanatec GT2). I'm happy to do some "experimenting" if someone can come up with some stuff to try! :D

Experiement to see if you can get up and over a guard rail and somehow free roam explore out into the map.

How does it drive with a wheel? I have a CSR and was wondering with all assist off if it handles like forza 4?

It's very similar but definitely feels like some minor tweaks have been made. Just feels a bit more grippy and has a bit more understeer imo.

I only got about 10 minutes to check it out this morning before work but that was the one thing I notice to was the setting I use for FM4 felt pretty good with FH also. I use 540 sens and I was happy that I did'nt have to fiddle with it.

I don't think that's possible, but I can try for sure!

Chris seems to have just about the same thoughts that I do. I was expecting it to be much much more "arcadey"! Feels very good in my opinion. I don't know how far it is from Forza4 as far as simulating real world physics goes, but it seems to do the job for me! And this is from someone who has always preferred simulations over Need For Speeds and stuff like that.
