Forza Horizon Demo Trailer 9th October

@Recar deeps. I use 540 too. Haven't had any FF dropouts that are caused by dashboard update though.

Only played twice. XCOM demo out today too. Only easy difficulty though.

That thing has great gearbox-whine as it goes by! 👍

That's the supercharger not the gearbox. Delta S4 is turbo and supercharged.

I was pretty impressed by the Evo's handling. There's a definite weight to it, it uses its 4wd system very well to avoid power oversteer where possible and it just had a good feel. I varied between driving like a lunatic and driving sensibly up to 80 and picked my overtakes carefully and it felt even better driven like a sim than it does when you throw it about, which should quiet the naysayers.

I did'nt notice any drops either, but I did'nt play very long. I did turn off all the asst. but left it on medium & normal steering. Can't wait to put a little more time into it tonight.

How fast does the traffic move about? In the 50 mph zone?

The cluster of Beetles that are driving around during the Dam & Out race need to burned down to their tires. :banghead:

I've posted this on Forzamotorsport.net:

So, I've downloaded and played the demo for a bit - and a wee bit of FM4, too, in order to drive a stock Evo for comparison's sake.

And with all due respect, I don't get the whole "OMG PREORDER CANCELLED!!!!11one" comments. Sure, there is a difference, but I'd say that it's nowhere near as dramatic as some folks on here make it out to be. At least not as far as the driving physics are concerned, in my opinion - with all assists off in both games, obviously.

So, some observations:

1) FH feels A LOT like FM4, just somewhat grippier. The Evo X with Sport Tyres feels quite close to the one in FH, as long as they're being driven in the same way. In general, I'd say that FH isn't quite as good as FM4, as far as driving physics are concerned, but it's definitely better than any other opeen world racing game I've played so far. By far. You know, with recent games like NFS: Shift 2 that pass as 'Sims', the huge backlash on here seems utterly moronic. Because, even compared to these kind of games, FH's physics don't seem bad at all. And, even though this might provoke some folks: I'd say that the Evo still feels more alive than most cars in, say, Gran Turismo 5.

So, is it as good as good as FM4? No, not really. But still darn good, especially for what it is.

2) Depending on how you're driving, the game might feel more or less arcade-like to you. Collisions are towned down considerably, which, I think, is the biggest difference between the two games. As such, you've got the option to either slam into a guard rail and abuse the forgiving crash physics to actually be faster than you would've been by driving cleanly. Don't do so, though, and it already feels less arcadey. It's up to you to abuse the 'simplified' crash physics or try to drive as cleanly as you would in FM4. Well, I suppose that it's somewhat inconvenient to have to stick to self-imposed limitations, but that's what I'm going to do.

TL;DR: Drive arcadey, feel arcadey.

3) The 30FPS feel rather smooth. Better than a fluctuating 60FPS, but I've been saying so for a while and in regard to other games. The graphics, in general, seem to be a notch below FM4 - which is to be expected, given that there's quite a bit more going on on the screen at all times. However, the scenery is pretty spectecular. The lighting is ok, worse than FM4, better than FM3. And, well, driving at night doesn't look as good as it did in Gran Turismo 5 or NFS: Shift 2. However, it's still very good for an open world game.

So, yeah, graphics are decent. Not breathtakingly beautiful in comparison to circuit racers, but the scenery will make up for that.

4) Well, the sound isn't bad. I somewhat like the music selection, but prefer the radio to be off, actually. The engine sounds are pretty muffled, though, but I'll have to mess with the audio settings anyways. Same with the HUD options, though. Not much to say here, though.

So, to summarize, I'm happy with Forza Horizon. It's not as simmy as FM4, but definitely more simmy than any other open world game I'vee played to date. It's even more simmy than some games that like to call themselves a 'simulation' of sorts. It's definitely more about having fun than about replicating reality, but it still does the letter well enough to feel 'authentic'.

I went into the demo with some relatively high expectations. And yes, I did indeed hope that the game would feel 100% like FM4. It's more around the 85% mark, but given that other open world racers would come in at about 40%, at best, that doesn't seem half bad. But, then again, I've not been excited for Horizon because I want to drive my cars at a 10/10 pace with perfectly realistic physics, but because I want to drive and enjoy myself in a very scenic environment, an environment that FM4 isn't able to provide me with.

So, is FH perfect? No. Is Horizon better than I expected? No. Is it as good as I hoped it would be? No. Is it still good enough that I can see myself putting 300 hours into it, just because it's fun to play it? Yes, absolutely. The physics not being 100% of FM4 ensures I'll be playing both games, just to get the best out of both worlds. Which I would've done, anyways, as FM4 offers things that FH doesn't, and vice versa.

In short, Forza Horizon doesn't seem like a replacement for FM4 or FM5. But it seems like a valuable and enjoyable additon to the franchise. Whether that's enough is up to everybody to decide for themselves. I'll say this, though: If you expected FM4 levels of quality in every single aspect of the game, with no compromises due to the utter scope of it, that's not the game's fault.

I'm definitely looking forward to getting my hands on the full game.

To be fair, I'd expect cars to feel different on track to the road, too. Forza's cars are known for being quite stiff, so if they feel different then hopefully that's part of it.

I wont be able to play this till about 6pm pst :( Im so sad to because I tried to download it before work, but it wouldnt download fast enough.. that was at 6 am lol.

Excellent non bias, open minded review. 👍

Actually according to Luminis its opposite of what you think it should be. In real life, cars on a road track course have MUCH more traction than they do on street roads. I am guessing they did that to make the game easier to drive. They are clearly trying to market a more casual audience especially with a storyline, wrist bands, dubstep, and the festivals. Which is fine because as Luminus said, most of us that are playing Horizon are not expecting full 100% sim physics. Its going to have a slightly arcade feel to it and more for cruising to enjoy the scenery. Luminis your review has me quite excited to check it out. Because what you explained, is exactly what I expected from Horizon. I will check it out in a couple hours.

I'm playing the demo with my CSR and I'm noticing an annoying problem. Everytime I hit the clutch to shift, my car tries to spin out. This doesn't happen in FM4, so this kind of bothers me. Anyone else exprience this?

Also, I think this game is pretty fun. The Evo race reminded me of Dirt 3, which I was enjoyed a lot. The concept of racing a plane in the Mustang event was neat too. But I'm not quite sure if this game is my cup of tea. I most likely will get NFS: Most Wanted first and pick Horizon up at a later time.

I must say. That Forza Horizon is one of the very first driving games I adored so much in my life. It's like I'm dreaming of an open world racer no one has never seen before, but I'm very happy it finally exists.

I adored exploring the areas from tarmac to dirt, and dirt to tarmac. Even though its physics isn't like Forza 4's physics, it was still enjoyable, and I'm all prepared to leave the race track and go on a Colorado road trip adventure when I get the full game. :D

I'm now quite worried about the map size, when we've been given one area of free roam, which doesn't seem massive, yet it's near to the other parts of the map. It might not matter in the full game and I hope it doesn't, but it certainly doesn't have the feel of a huge map.

How is this even possible? :odd:

Hey that's me! #3 baby! haha I actually did it by accident, and wasn't actually going 7,7xxx mph.

Just played and I noticed some things

1st. Lancia Delta S4

2nd. Mustang vs Mustang race is really fun

3rd. Rallying in this game = my dream come true

Sounds like you're not actually hitting the clutch, but hitting the handbrake instead, have you tried the 'switch handbrake and clutch' option in the controller settings menu?

I've just played all three events and ran the Linley Dam in rivals mode. As people have found, this part of the map features a glitch/Easter egg, whereby if you take a left turn right before the finish line, you can drive along a nice long dirt road for a pleasant surprise. The roads around the back of the dam are highly enjoyable, really looking forward to taking a variety of cars around there.

The Evo might seem 'easy' to some, but there are a couple of things that need to be considered. The car is 4WD, it's not going to be massively tail happy and a nice touch is that you can hear the wheels scrabble for traction. Plus, you'll get a tiny amount of power oversteer in first and second, depending on the free space around you as you try it.

The Viper - a car some thought was too easy to drive in FM4 when it launched - is a really enjoyable drive. I lost it on a couple of occasions, mainly second gear and giving it too much slip angle over adverse camber. This I like. This car really did feel like I was playing a Forza game and the first time I actually stopped feeling an odd disconnect that you get from the Evo, simply because the Viper takes a lot more driving.

Is it possible to turn the TCS off for the Viper? The pause menu for the very first race didn't have the option. The flashing light in the HUD kept ruining my fun.
:boggled:

I did end up on my roof at one point in it though. lol

Once you get through that first race you can turn ALL nanny-aids off. Surprisingly, they even let you turn the HUD off.
