From what I've seen, the visual aspect of the damage just isn't there, which is what I'm talking about. I understand that it may or may not have impact on how the car handles in Forza 2, but visually, it doesn't make sense to only get some dings and dents and then your suspension is jacked up.
Agreed.

I'm not very excited that MS (since this is 1st party) told me about the damage model over and over again, and it's really only a small step above the first Forza. Even the port of Burnout Revenge on 360 has damage that makes this look sad.

Um, much of that has to do with the licensing of the cars by the given manufacturers. If they allowed their cars to be completely obliterated ala Burnout, they would believe it to create a negative image of their car based on safety and reliability, and thus somehow it would hurt the brand. The guys at Turn 10 have said that they had attempted to maximize the damage allowed by the brands to the best of their ability, but there are rules that they have to follow...

...But even then, I'm not sure how you can hide the fact that your Honda Civic just plowed into a wall at 120 MPH, no matter what the companies may want from your damage models...

That's not it though, I'm just looking for some medium scaled crumple zones, something beyond scratched paint and a bumper hanging off.I don't know, MS promised me (so to speak) this awesome damage with all their talk about their damage model and how advanced it was, and all of these videos showing how good it would be...and it's still the same as Forza 1. If they knew these issues were there to start with, why hype me up? yenno?

I agree with you on the almost false-promise MS made, however that in its' own creates hype and attracts more end-users. No matter how you look at it, the point of this game is not to obliterate Ferrari's and other automobiles but to praise them and race them properly. I believe the damage model is an added bonus; as long as the collisions create mechanical failures and alter the driving physics.

I'm sure you mean alter the way the car interacts with the physics engine, not alter the driving physics, lol.

And I agree, that is the major part of it, but I'm still left wondering why my suspension is jacked up and I'm pulling right when I've only got a few scrapes, yenno? Unless they have some sort of decent HUD that will show me how damaged certain things are (sort of like the 1st Forza, only hopefully more in depth).

I think the damage model may have something to do with the frame rate. They are doing all they can to maintain 60fps. motorStrom is a 30fps game and its damage model is cosmetic but it looks fantastic to the point where your car can end up unrecognizable as to what it is or used to be :).

Still I think this micro transaction era we are in has left us with an unsatisfying track and car list. It does have the new Charger so I'm excited for that car but no Mazda speed 3 grr.

Well, if think you are neglecting just how breakable a car is. Certainly you may just have a few dents, dings, scratches, etc on the outside, but the wear and tear beneath a car from bumping and rubbing can do more damage than one would expect. Sure, if I'm doing 90 MPH and I side-swipe a guard-rail or another car I may only tear-up the side of the car and knock a bumper loose, but those g-forces and the pressure of doing so could tear the coil overs out of their mounts, knock springs lose, burn-out wheel bearings, screw with the alignment of the car, etc.

...On the subject of the HUD, they have a new way of doing it that will show everything that you're car is doing when you turn it on. There is a video on IGN that goes into detail with it, but it will show not only where the damage has occurred and how drastic it may be, but it will also be able to be configured so that you can see how much contact your tires are having with the pavement, what rate your suspension is compressing at, the various engine-related specs, etc.

WTF is up with the PT Cruiser why does everyone put this car in a racing game who the hell races a PT Cruiser. Get that car outta there. There's only one S2k my favorite car and the PT is taking up space. lol

Anyways loving the features but it seems like their more concerned about adding in features then actual realism in the physics. How real will this feel. Thus why with the so many different features I think this is contributing to why their still fixing bugs. I'm just guessing here but could it be with all the models including simulation, realistic damage levels, paint layers, all 20 cars at one given time and all the many other added features it seems to be that this is bogging the game a bit and causing some problems. In the GDC interview he says briefly "that with all 20 cars and full damage" then " followed by "we still need to polish the game a bit more".

I still think deep down the next GT game will surpass this because we all know the boundaries within developing a racing game. Now which team Foraza or GT what will they concentrate more on, trying to add in almost every single detail, online capabilities, simulation or actual game play. I still believe that this game with all it's features will still be another racing arcade kind of game and not a true racing simulation when compared to the next gen GT. I still believe GT will bring true realism. Not like Forza with fancy paint including 8k layers body kits thats just all overkill. There's allot to work with here considering the new game engine but I still think they could have put that effort into areas that matter the most. The cars detail, maximizing sound detail and REALISM. Forza touches these areas IMO not bad considering the new engine but deep down it feels like they could have spent more time further developing and mastering these areas. I still can't wait to play Forza and give it a try. It's stiil going to be the next best thing utill GT5 comes out.👍

That looks like an XBOX pic.....lol

To SOnzilla
I think that Forza 2 will be a different animal than GT5. Forza 2 WILL be an enjoyable game however as I have said it before PD has more time to Develop the next GT. Consider also the tight relationship between Sony and them, we can see some insane things... Sony HOME Garage..EyeToy HD being used as a tracking device for you head movement.. etc..
Forza is focusing on individuality and customization of one's car. I bet that we are not going to see such extensive customization in GT5. However it WILL be a superior RACING game.

When you say tight relationship between Sony and PD do you mean tight as in PD are part of Sony, because that's what they are. Though I agree with your sentiments, on the basis of what we've had before, both games should be great for different reasons.

that would be awsome. "This is my lounge, note the ferrari 599 gtb sitting under the tv...great talking point"

No no.....not under the TV In an actual garage. From what I understand we will be able to have our own apartment/condo in HOME. Well, PD could attach a garage to that apartment and then you could take your buddies to it and give them a virtual tour of your gorgeous HD auto collection; maybe even show them some of your best laps around your favorite track through one of the available virtual flat panel tv's. I'm telling you guys I see a world of possibilities with Sony's web 3.0 application.

lol, yea i know i was being sarcastic. It would be awsome though. And if you have a car that you have used to win many races(or something rare)and decide you don't want/need it anymore, instead of selling it you could donate/sell it to an (automotive)museum. If they decide to implemint museums, art studios etc. It would be SICK!:)

yeah, and after doing it 2-3 times, you just stop using it because it takes too long to "walk around" the apartment and the garage, and you want a quick menu interface to select "race now damnit"... ;)

That's the annoying thing about PGR3, it has to reload a garage every time you select a car.

Nice idea, so many possibilities. "Interactive virtual world".👍

How about being a Virtual Tuner. Having your own Tuner shop. With specific parts for your liking.

omg that s15 looks....

whats that beside the exige/elise?

Some interesting quotes:

-Like Bob, I began a fresh career this week in Europe (although you have the option later on to relocate your base of operations -- for a price).
-I was rewarded a vintage 1970 Porsche 914/6 after finishing first in one of the first sets of races in the "Proving Grounds" sector that eases you into the flow of Career.
-I quickly found myself sitting pretty in the middle of Class B. To bring me back down to earth, I began adding penalties such as 115 lbs of downforce, reverting back to stock intake and exhaust, scaling back on my brakes and driveline, and finally, giving myself silly 195 rims all around
-In Forza 2's single-player mode, you go through career events competing against a decent group of international racers, each with a unique name, driving style, favorite color, and career record. So as you advance through the ranks, chalk up wins (or losses), so do the AI racers. So in effect, you end up going wheel-to-wheel with these guys over many many hard-fought battles.
-What's even more interesting is the fact that you can also hire drivers (whose cumulative stats also change as they win or lose races) to hit the road for you if you feel like sitting out and watching from the sidelines. The better the driver, the more they'll take from your winnings.

By the time the haze cleared, Bob's Peugeot 206 RC was no longer the 180 hp, 2,425 lbs FWD hatchback -- what emerged was a stealthy AWD beast that clocked in at 690 hp with 443 lb-ft torque, and sporting a slender weight-reduced chassis of 1,941 lbs. The in-game dyno benchmarked the car's 0-60 mph time to be 2.263 seconds (0-100 mph in 4.463 seconds), with a top speed of 213.9 mph. In other words, Bob's Peugeot was completely ridiculous, but utterly cool at the same time. And it was a blast to drive -- in a straight line, that is.

OMG i'm getting so excited over this game!

When is the slated release date? The guys at Gamestop keep telling me it's pushed back.
