Should it be "free to play" or buy to play

I just fired up Apex for the first time in months and I gotta say, I was none too happy with the performance. My GTX980 has been superseded some time ago and my i7-3770k @4.0GHz isn't what it used be either - but my system was struggling to keep 30FPS with all setting maxed at 1080p. Full grid in the rain, though.

Seems like some of the settings are downright murdering the FPS - depth of field, for one. Getting a stable, locked 60 FPS with mostly ultra setting with a couple of highs sprinkled in there. Still. Haven't had performance issues with other games either, so I don't think my system is flaky or anything :indiff:

You are doing something wrong, definitely. I'm getting 90-130 FPS (using the in game FPS meter) with a GTX970 in rain or dry with full grids, with all settings manually set on the absolute maximum and frame rate unlocked. I do get some stutter after playing for about 45 minutes but that's cured by restarting the game (and is potentially linked to a memory leak).

Are you running latest Nvidia drivers?

The other option is that you could be short on RAM I guess... do you have at least 16GB in that PC?

I agree with @skazz, you should be getting more than 30FPS at 1080P especially since the APEX update. I'm running similar hardware but at 2560x1440 and easily get over 60FPS. APEX at this stage is more demanding than most others (AC, R3E, AMS, rF2, Dirt Rally, etc.) but the last update improved things quite a bit. I may have a couple things backed off from ultra but I don't really notice any difference.
I haven't monitoring the load on my GTX980 but it's a shame that APEX is only really using 2 of my 4 CPU cores. In addition, would be nice if I could take advantage of my UltraWide monitor - 3440x1440.

Already done! :(

Thats the only thing that sucks about UWP games lol. The PC population would double if the game had been released via steam. Some people can't stand Windows 10, and a lot off people hate UWP. This was also another reason for me to buy an Xbox. I have a choice now of being able to play those Play Anywhere games, and if the PC version runs bad, I can always go to Xbox. Sucks though, maybe in the future they will optimize it for lower spec systems. If you're on a desktop, check out deals on older mid-high range GPUs.

Of course.

12 at the moment, never saw Apex using that to its fullest, though.
but the last update improved things quite a bit.
Never saw the game update itself...

Unless it's done in the background without any notification whatsoever, I might just not be running the latest version of Apex

/edit:
Well. It appears that it might not be Apex by itself, in the end. The Win10 Anniversary Update seemingly broke my system real bad. A bunch of apps crashed on startup today (a little while after posting here). It broke down completely eventually and Win10 itself crashed on startup (due to an inaccessible boot device).

Nothing I could do, really. Only solution that worked was to roll back to an old 1511 build from the 13th - which then allowed me to boot into safe mode and restart normally. Took me a good while to get everything back up and running again.

Not to eager to update Win10 again, actually

Hmm, well that would suck. I've upgraded about 35 computers so far and haven't had a hiccup with the anniversary update. Could be that most of these are in a well controlled business environment and I understand there are many variables. My sampling is still small in the grand scheme of things.

Eh, it's the first issue I've had since upgrading to Win10, so I can't say that the OS is bad or anything.

I'll redo it eventually - probably once it automatically downloads. Haven't checked out how Apex has been performing since the rollback, though.

@skazz, @FuzzyFassbender: Sorted it out

It indeed was the update. Tested Apex' performance following the rollback. V-sync locked 60 FPS with everything on max settings on a full grid. I'm fluctuating between ~70 and ~100 FPS when unlocked. And yeah, some of the settings can be dialled back a notch without having any visual impact, so I suppose I got a fair bit of headroom now

Strange thing is, I can now purchase FH3 without having the supposedly required Anniversary Update installed

That update has been reported buggy and has been hell with users who use both a ssd and HDD. I have win 10 installed on my ssd and apps installed on the HDD. Sometimes when opening those apps, my PC will freeze. Sometimes watching videos will also cause it to freeze. This all started after I upgraded win 10 with the anniversary update.

Huh, would you look at that.

Strange thing is, I don't even run an SSD. Mine fried itself some time ago. Didn't even fiddle with it. I'm just naturally unlucky with electronic devices - except for my phone, for whatever reason

Someone help me please! I can't download the game because it says "You Need at least Direct X 11"

But I have DX12

WTF?

I just loaded Apex to do this week's events, and either today's new Nvidia drivers (for Horizon 3) or the recent Windows 10 update managed to get it to reset back to default graphical settings.

I was getting some stutter with it set to default at "high" and "dynamic" settings with lock to 60fps. I manually set it to unlocked and put all individual settings to their maximum (ultra or whatever) and frame rates were back at 90-130fps and the stutter went away.

I'm wondering if reviewers complaining about Horizon 3 PC version stuttering had the same problem.

Finally got Apex. Runs like a dream, though it needs some getting used to with keyboard controls. Is there a way to modify sensitivity?

Does FM6:APEX support Logistech Driving Force GT Racing Wheel? I didn't see this wheel listed on the support wheel list...

Damn, I was hit by the "no FFB" Apex bug(?) this morning with my T300. Made it effectively unplayable. Trying to create a new wheel configuration setting didn't help.

Edit: it fixed itself. I tried again later, having played a few hours of Horizon 3 (which was fine) and then unplugged and re plugged the wheel. One of the two did the trick and FFB in Apex was back to normal.

Wow, just downloaded this game and and did a few races.

:drool:It looks awesome!!.....

I have intel 2500k@4Ghz with an R9 280X and was hitting almost 60fps all the time.

The driving itself is not so involved as pcars or AC (IMHO) but the graphics are so real that really helps the immersion.

My house logistics are such that I won't be able to get my T300 to the PC to play frequently but i'll try at least once a week.

I wanted to download this game and check it out a couple of weeks ago but had some issues.
I do not normally use Windows 10 so it had not updated for a while.

Anyway when I went to the site to try and download it I got a message saying that it was not compatible with my machine. Looking at the requirements it seems my machine exceeds all the requirements so I thought maybe it was due to missing updates or maybe I needed to update to the anniversary edition. I started the update, took hours and then when the system rebooted for the last time it said restoring previous version of Windows and I seemed to be back where I started.

Any ideas what could be the issue here?

btw my system specs are in my sig, I normally run Windows 7 but I also have Windows 10 installed on a different HDD

If your machine flat out will not take the Anniversary update then you may want to do a fresh reinstall with a new downloaded copy of Win10 with the update already in.

I may try downloading an ISO soon. I had some issues with the upgrade from 7 to 10 also. I ended up downloading the ISO to do the update and that seemed to work fine. Seems that it is not all that unusual as I know a few other people that were unable to get the update to work properly without using the ISO

This game has funny autodetection routines... it says my pc is below system requirements for LOW settings at HD 768p... I run a 32Gb Xeon e5 2670 8 cores with an RX480...

Is the full version of Forza 6 out yet on PC? I played the beta for it (the Apex). I bought Forza Horizon 3 and it is a full game.
The full game is unlikely to be coming. I expect the focus is on Forza 7 being fully functional cross-platform at launch next summer.
