Err... what? It was a joke aimed at Slash, as he quite rightly picked up on, but trust you to react like that.

Nobody has one... except for many, many people who live in the U.K (places outside of the U.S/Canada do exist, believe it or not), where you can pick up a Defender for under £1,000. The Defender is our equivalent to your Ford/Chevy truck, if you hadn't realised.

As far as ability goes, some 4x4s will excel in certain areas and conditions, some in others, but overall they aren't too far apart, and once you get onto the subject of modifying them, the differences become even smaller.

Yea well they're all 40K+ over here and only Posh/rich people own them, and then never use them for off roading.

Surely you could make a fortune by importing Land Rovers from the U.K to the U.S?
I doubt they'd pass your emissions tests, if what I've heard about them (strict) is correct.

Hhmm.... maybe if gas wasn't so expensive. Gas' "cheap" over here and still nobody has one of these. Whatever. They're cool, but not anything special.

Many places in the US don't even have emissions tests, we haven't had them in Michigan in probably 20 years and I know many other states dropped them too.

Importing a Land Rover would be difficult though since the government thinks imported cars are a threat to national security.

That's a shame, we could have set up a GTP import business!

Buy a Defender for a few thousand dollars, ship them over and sell them for ten times that!

Racing cockpits, triple monitors, and G27s for all!

Now there's a plan!

Still have 'em over here in Maryland. I didn't know other states dropped them in the first place, unfair.

The closer to D.C., the better, right?

Whee!

Oh yeah 'Merika! Awesome thread!! I grew up going offroad, two tracking, dune clumbing, and mud running. Some of the members on here have seen pics of my trucks and might have even seen videos.

One of my favorite trucks was a 79 Chevy truck I daily drove with 35" tires and a 4" lift. Power windows, sunroof, adjustable rancho 9000 shocks. Perfect for everything and was THE most reliable vehicle I ever owned. It NEVER broke down in the 10 years I owned it.

I even had a truck designated just for mud only. 1977 chevy with 44" tires, 19" lift, slapstick shifter, spool rear axle, dana 44 front axle and much more. I made a custom internal snorkel so it could go under water. That thing was a beast. That broke down quite a few times. Even got it stuck in a few lakes. lol

Also had a 1977 blazer I daily drove that was so much fun. Excessive mudding eventually destroyed the body.

Eventually I sold my trucks and bought quads. I sure miss going offroad. Just hardly any places around here where you can legally go offroad anymore. :guilty:

Awesome! Love to hear about peoples old trucks, 'specially when they're 3rd-gen Chevy's, since we owned a few. Last bit is kinda sad though. The same deal is/has happened here. If you get caught in certain swamp/bogs you can get a hefty fine. It sucks. :/

I also love to hear about them. Makes me wish we'd do something with ours again

My dad driving his Suzuki

There were some smaller trucks prepped for throphy events, but they couldn't compete with the small size and turning radius of this one :P

For this 'stage' they let the copilot outside of the vehicle to give pointers, the other stages had the normal rules of the copilot having to be seated at all times.
I was the copilot, but dad didn't need pointers, so was a good chance to film him :D

Nice video Dust. Looks like he had a hard time in some spots trying to get that thing to go up
