Yup, just like a few years back when imageshack when to a "Paid" subscription based.

Now it is photobucket that is doing this.

So if you've use photobucket for hosting images for forum use.

Now is the time to start downloading all your photos and editing all the posts you've done.

Don't forget the dumbest part, the only subscription level that allows 3rd party image hosting costs $400 a year!

Just posted an image I uploaded to Photobucket a moment ago. Didn't have any problems when I did it.

Is it an upcoming thing?

I have been using Photobucket for roughly 10 years so far, and it used to be a good host. I have the lowest tier paid service (20gb or so), which I have had for maybe 7 years and so far my pics are still showing. I'm thinking about moving to Flickr, but man changing all those posts over the years is going to be a massive headache -__-

I'm a mod on a car forum, I had to update my how tos and I decided to go through all of the other how tos to see how many of them were bricked, it was about 12, the rest had photos uploaded as attachments.

Reason I never done attachments was i could take the BB code and do a straight paste and have the same guide on another forum.

Wow, I'm surprised to hear about it. When I first recently tried to access Photobucket, they're telling me to "disable the adblocker" for this page or I can't access the website. Now hearing about this, and the 'http://www.photobucket.com/p500/' link telling that without paying to a 'Plus 500' plan third-party hosting is no longer permitted...that's BS. Absolutely absurd. Why would they do this??? They're becoming more like Imageshack or something?

(Thank goodness I don't use Photobucket, now I'm using Imgur these days. And early in the days of Twitter hosting its own images, they initially used Photobucket, but I think they've since then distanced them away...)

I have to wonder why Photobucket is doing something like this...

This is a terrible business model. I get they want to make money, but charging $399 a year doesn't seem like good value for money. $9.99 a month would probably be a good price point with packages that go up that offer more space. I pay $1.99 a month for 100GB of storage in my Google Drive and I think that seems fair, for $9.99 a month I can get 1TB which is similar to what Photobucket could offer.

I have 9 years of photos on it. GTPlanet seems to be the only website that they are still mostly live on. The others are all dead. Even going to the image in photo bucket show the new 3rd party image fail.
There is something on this site that that gets around the change that they have made. I am curious to know what it is @Jordan

All images get cached to the Gtplanet servers temprarily.

GTPlanet is now using a new image proxy system to serve all images posted on the forums. This means that any image image you share or "hotlink" in a post (without uploading it as an attachment to that post) will be automatically and transparently copied to and served back to you from GTPlanet's servers. A copy of each image will be stored for 7 days, after which the servers will fetch a new copy of the image from the original host.

That's from the update thread in the support section and is from 2014 so it may be outdated.

Thanks, that helps understand why it works mostly here. The plugin has worked on my desktop. Now to get it for mobile if that's possible.

I just found out about this today, I've been using Photobucket for quite a few years as well and all of my images on other websites/forums are just gone now. Such a stupid move from them, why would anyone pay so much to keep using it? People rather move to other free or cheaper alternatives. I doubt they'll survive this with a lot of people moving away from Photobucket, and I actually hope they don't. I'm on some other forums where they always suggested people to upload to Photobucket for sharing pictures, those forums have almost no images at all anymore now.. There's no way I'm going to go through thousands of posts to replace all of the images I uploaded, that's just too much work.

A couple of Photobucket 'blog posts' regarding the third-party hosting situation:
It might not be dead, but...RIP to the Photobucket that we've been used to. :(

Also have to give fire to Photobucket for NOT having the option to download ALL pictures at once, just one-by-one that can be time-consuming... (>_<)

Thankfully most of my pix were moved to imgur a long time ago and all new ones go there, but my small Photobucket library is gonna have to get moved.:indiff:

Jeez! I stopped using them about a year ago because the app was a mess and the website no better. I'm just curious how they think they rate? There are better options that work way better, that are free! Idk, but I got a feeling this is going to sink their ship.
