free roaming?( drive to the races in cars)

I reckon the only sort of free roam that would suit the GT series would be driving around the race track complex (like in the pits and driving off a transporter). :)

My 2 cents.

Yea.. I like that trailer idea. But anyways, like some people said.. theres barely a chance of free roaming. Polophony wouldn't take that much time just to have you drive your car to a track then only race for five minutes. It would take to long, unless they make the drive shorter and more interesting. If you could offload your car from a trailer then drive it to the pit stop or starting point.. that would be cool.

I think the online idea would be cool. and cut scenes of cars unloading or being able to do it your self would make the game less boring. being able to drive into the pits and park would be a idea i think. And having long winding canyon or mountain roads would be cool also.

If free roam were included I'd use it. But you'd need an awful lot of detail. I wouldn't want to just drive around a small town like NFS. I want AT LEAST to drive around an authentic NY or Chicago or London. I want to drive around California or Florida or Switzerland. I want to drive across the USA !

Think about it, you could actually race the Cannonball Run on your PS3.

THAT would be cool.

It would be cool, but the game would be called "Cannonball Run" and not GT5.

Luckly free roaming will never happen.

PD takes like to two weeks just to put one car in the game with taking pics and tranferring. And it took them like four to five months to put in New York in GT4 and that just the track design, no cars, people or marketing stuff(Playstation logos, Honda banners and PD banners etc.) on the track just the track and some buildings.

If they were to do free roaming GT5 wouldn't come out until PS8 or PS9.

I rather race than cruise around some city.

I would like the idea of free roam once it doesn't become like NFS you sould be albe to drive to tuning shops and dealers BUT rules of road have to be followed and the city sould be like a real city with traffic (heavier at certian times etc) but there sould also be a menu to skip the free roam mode the free roam would be a good idea if it doesn't take away from the track racing etc

Its funny, on the 'tracks you don't want to see on GT5' thread everyone says they don't want Hong Kong, Opera Paris or the other street tracks. Now everyone wants street tracks to drive slowly on. I think GT always has been a 'racing' game as opposed to a 'driving' game and should stay that way.

You've got this 'free roming' idea all wrong!

I would like to see the cursor that one directs around the 'world map' be replaced by a minature of your current car, and you must 'drive' it between locations, ala Micro Machines.

:D

It would also be cool if you could spin your tires and pull up to your spot befor ethe race starts to warm up your tires.. and maybe a little victor Lane at the end and your teammates hand you a Cola.. then you get an interview on your win and stuff.

It would be really boring to drive to the races. I mean, can you imagine going from Tsukuba in Japan to Nurbürgring in Germany? That would take you hours because if GT is "The Real Driving Simulator," then PD would have to make the real roads that can measure 1 million miles total when all tracks are combined

I have NFS Most wanted, so if I'd like to drive around, I'll do it there. wait a minute, I skipped the driving in that game too! sounds boring.
P.S. FYI - race cars get trailored in. even a lot of club cars do. now, not only is it boring but it's unrealistic. chalk me up for hating this bad, bad idea

If they had something similar to test drive unlimited where you could drive around the dealership or something that would be good..... god knows the blue ray disc has enough storage on it!

I think that Test Drive Unlimited can take care of the free roaming game, and GT can continue to just be the best track racing game

In regards to free roaming. I would just like to see say 50 to 100 mile long stretch of roads that would be mainly used in photo drive mode or maybe test drives. In this 50 or 100 miles there would be all sorts of landcapes, mountains, waterfalls, rivers, differnt bridges, differnt types of pavement. Narrow roads, 6 lane roads, maybe dirt roads. Then have lots of senic places to pull over and use as photo shoots. If that had something like this it would also be nice to have roads split and go in differnt directs, maybe long drive, medium drive, or you could make journey almost as long as you want. If they include custom race event mode maybe they could even take a course like this and let you block off certain roads in order to make a race course ( at least for family cup or arcade ).

illegal street racing freeway runs yeah i want free roam drive a truck with your race cars in the back that will be sweet

1) Illegal street racing will probably not make it into GT5. As much as I loved it when I played it, NFSU-style racing could not have damage or realism like GT5 will.

2) Freeways are boring. Besides, we have the High Speed Ring already 👍

3) Driving a truck with a car in the back? That would be the GT-series equivalent of adding a "watch paint dry mode" to the Sims series.

No F'ing free roam.

But make the tracks fully moddeled and drivable, meaning you drive to your pit stall, you drive to your trailer in the infeild to make changes on the car, you drive to victory lane after the race, you drive to the starting grid and do the warm up lap.

But all of this as options. I hate when you HAVE to do something and it gets old and you don't want to. Like have it in the pause menu to just quit the session and jump to your garage, or able to jump to the race start or skip the victory stuff if you want. but you can still do it if you'd like.

I think that'd be REALLY cool.

But we need an incar cam and better physics and more tracks, and more domestics and more supercars and less crap cars first.

i quite enjoy starting with a cheap-im-on-a-budget car, and then builind up to a race king (or quenn if thats what you prefer)

but i quite like the free roam ON THE RACE TRACK....it would be nice to free roam everywhere, but maybe its a bit soon for that, i like the warm up lap, and the whole driving to a certain place in the paddock to tune your car, good concept.

well, let's start by having the possibility to drive into small areas which you can normally not enter, even if it looks like it, maybe it's not nessecery, but it would be far more realistic

i think this would be an awesome idea..but not in the city. Only country roads or windy highways but with other normal cars on the road but with a few sports cars..can u imagine trailing behind a slow station wagon, looking to the other side of the road to see if anyone is coming, quickly downshifting and passing..and then maybe some drivers in nicer cars would start playing with you..not continually racing like a race car driver though..since they are just normal people and are probably not experienced...this would make the game so kool and would make me addicted to it for the rest of my life..lol

edit:::embarrassed:h and this would only work if there are damage effects since if you crash into a civilian it would be stupid if you could just keep going with no consequences..and by the way..all this would probablu be boring on a controller, unless u have the wheel. and about driving to the actual race, that wouldnt make much sense but i do understand having like a huge garage/hangar and then driving to your local raceway to practice or just fool around..also if u mess up your car it should be ur responsibilty and it shouldnt just repair by itself..for real races you should just be able to get there instanyly.

WOW.... thats actualy a pretty...crappy idea :dunce:

Why not just have Mille Miglia in the game? And then have an option where you can choose to have traffic on it. Kind of free roam, but still not.

Free roam, ala NFS will probly never happen. So there that is.

As far as similiar ideas, I like the whole one, long & continuous road. Long windy mountain passes, then off into the desert for a few miles of straightaway, then back into the hills for complex stuff. The randomly- generated-neverending-road thing would be awesome.

But strictly optional. Just for screwing off and whatnot.

hopefully they include gasstations too, because otherwise that neverending road won't be so long:sly:
Good point. Better have some tire shops too.

I think we should be able to roam anywhere on the track. As soon as the truck is parked, you should drive it off/out from the trailer and into your paddock area. From that point you have a menu that lets you save, go to a settings menu, or go to free roam. If you chose free roam, you would be able to a) drive back to your truck (retire/quit), b) drive to the circuit entrance which would prompt you to either practice, qualify, race, or cancel. Of course some sort of rule would have to apply with driving around the infield, such as a speed limit like the 10 second penalty, but maybe just limiting your speed to 20mph in most parts. You could also leave the track at any time in the race from any of the track exit locations in order to retire.

The free roam would be cool at a drag strip. When you choose to race in a tournament you would drive from the pits and get into the line of cars waiting for your turn. You could either sit in the car and wait or have the option of watching from the beginning of the track. Then you can throw in burnouts and staging.
