free roaming?( drive to the races in cars)

Free roam should only apply to race tracks, you can stay in the pits, get out of the car, and watch the race from the wall. If you crash you take the nearest scooter and drive back. NetKar pro has the same concept and it's pretty cool.

Keep in mind that the gameplay will change a lot....

But still......if you can play a little GT is should be possible to (seriously) race a lot of laps without crashing

Just wondering about this free roaming...

[Analogy]
Flight Simulator = Lets you fly from an airport to another
Train Simulator = Lets you <insert train act> from a station to another
Driving Simulator (our GT) = Lets you drive from a place to another
[/analogy]

Assuming that this analogy is comfortably acceptable, I think that the REAL DRIVING simulator should, yes, feature point to point driving.

"Duhhuh y0u f4g, t3===33z was alredy siad in tis t0peekc an u alrdy hav nfsu ro0x0x0x!!!!!!1!1"

Shut up, kid. What I am saying is crossing entire continents with real scaled representations of real roads. Imagine crossing Americas, Europe and Asia with your car.

Online server with world locations database. 347543 players online around the world, driving fastly (just the drivers, no trucks, no cops, no possibility of making illegal stuff - world put their cars and pedestrians away just for gt cars) and meeting in places.

Possibility 1: P2P races
(Lisboa -> Berlim time trial)

Possibility 2: P2P races with different start points
Car 1: Lisboa
Car 2: Berlim
Car 3: Warsawa
Car 4: Paris
Car 5: Roma

All these cars race to a determinated point.

There are much ways to make this a serious event type, and not some "F&F-drive-unnecessairly-below-truck-cargos" bs.

GT is the real driving simulator in name only, it's not the most realisitic, nor is it even remotely a driving simulator in the sense of real world road driving simulator, it's a racing simulator. no, that wouldn't suit a racing game, now a simulator based on the premise of driving where you want, when you want like say, Test drive unlimited, sure this idea fit's the bill perfectly. It fits into the theme of the game, GT is based on the racing track, simple as really, it's never tried or attempted to hint at it every being based on open streets.

I think the popularity of the Nurburgring is proof people like what is essentially, country road driving..

Whilst I think forcing it as part of the game (getting from one track too another) is a bad idea, having some of the worlds more interesting sections of road would be very cool, ambient traffic or not..

who wouldnt want to re-enact the opening of the original Italian Job (without the mafia), or drive the Great Ocean road in Victoria, Head south down through northern California.. winding roads through Iceland

at the end of the day thats the kind of driving a lot of these cars are designed for, not track racing...

I also think having a row of car yards that you can walk around would be very cool, especially for the second hand cars. Have a made up enclosed valley with a row of dealerships and a small run of road to test drive cars on before you buy (i hate dropping a bunch of cash ive won on a car only to find out i hate the feel).. if you want to restrict cars the player gets to experience early on in the game simply dont let them test drive what they cant afford, make them press their face against the glass of the virtual dealership..

First off, with all this unrealistic crap ... its a game, so if I want to see how a Toyota GT1 would handle on the British country A roads, then why cant I do so?
No other games offers the fanastic driving simulation of GT, so unless I make one, this is the only way I can get my driving fix.

NFS, TD series etc, they are all far to arcady. I want simulation.

Secondly, I will go back to my other point, Bristol has some fantastic winding, technical road both in and outside the city. There are 2 DB9's around here, and I have always wanted to feel what it is like to drive one, rather fast through small, technical roads with freedom.

not that this is on topic, but I've heard other games simulate car physics much better, and I have to say, other GT games have simulated some physics better.
GT1 was great with off-the line acceleration. and GT2, GT3 got worse, much worse, GT4, is horrid. a 215hp FF doing a burnout to 55mph? c'mon

there are so many better things PD could focus on than free roams, like, for instance, making cars drive realistic. how bout dat, yo? (im a homie now)

+1 on Puppeteer's post, except for road traffic. I don't want to be playing Test Drive Unlimited for 30 minutes. :P

But giving us some empty city streets or winding country roads to tear down would be fantastic. Just imagine if they gave us the Big Three, wouldn't you want to put that suspension and transmission through its paces, and hear the throaty roar go through its octaves as you conquor turn after turn, and roar down the slightly curving straights?

I agree with this, but definitely with no traffic. GT isn't a street racing game. The best way to implement roads like that would to implement Targa events, basiclaly point to point rally type trackss but on proper roads and raced in sports cars, touring cars, supercars etc.

I agree on this point as well.

Because we like GT for it's attempt at realism, ding, ding. Putting in public streets with free roam and traffic is not where the GT series should go, it will spoil the game's attempt at athenticity regarding a racing enviroment. If you want that, get Test Drive: Unlimited when it comes out, it's pretty good. I like the idea of a free roaming street racing game with realistic physics, but at the same time I do not want Gran Turismo to turn into that game.

Instead of free roaming, what about some Initial D tracks with optional traffic. Mt. Haruna (Akina), Usui, etc.
Thats the dumbest thing i have heard.. This is coarse racing, NOT stupid NFSUG.... nor is it 2F2F... NOR is is Intial D... Those are arcade racers.. This is going to be a strictly, just racing game... If you want free roam, go get GTA, if you want traffic, go play one of the stupid UG games...

It's not strictly a race circuit game, point to point races are done in real life, and they have been in GT before. I'd love them to do more of them, but only in the guise of sanctioned race events, that means no traffic, no police, no free roam.

I completely agree, no traffic! I do not tend to practise Nur/Ring with other cars racing as they mess up my line, lose me precious seconds and ultimately annoy the hell out of me.

TDU looks interesting, but I shall not play because of the traffic. I dont want to go around a tight blind bend perfectly just to slame into an oncoming car. Fantastic in GTA, but a bit pointless in driving sim games.

Well, traffic would be in bad taste, but what of much more complex tracks. more than 2 courses could derive from the same track and on Free run you could quite possibly come up with your own track.

I know that... But ther isn't traffic on the road..

I don't get this discussion/debate. Whether the idea of freeroaming is to your liking or not. We all know we would still play GT either way.:)
