Well, qualifying went better than I had anticipated. First corner was great and was able to sort of hang with
@Andil for several laps. Made a few mistakes to lose almost 2 seconds but managed to claw some back before the caution came out for the first time. When another caution came out around lap 29, I took a gamble and dove into the pits. I figured, if it stayed green for the rest of the race, I could probably pull off a win. And it was working brilliantly, even though Andil was taking out chunks of time, I figured as hard as he was pushing that his tires would be not much better off than mine at the end of the race if he caught me.
My heart sank when I saw the caution come out with 8 to go.
Still had a 12 second lead at that point. I figured if I could make the ass of the car as wide as possible on the restart, I might be able to hold off the hungry wolf pack.
Was working out ok, but that last caution definitely had me thinking a 4th place finish was in the cards. My front tires at the end were on 7/7 and it just wouldn't turn. PD's wear indicators are crap, because the tire grip you have at 7 should really be down around 4 or lower. No point in having a 10 step indicator if the tires are dead below 8.
In any case, defended the best I could on that last lap and in the last couple corners I was just going to take a really low line to keep anyone from sticking their nose inside. Worked ok until I got a bump on exit which pushed me wide, had to swing back to the right to get a straighter line through the last kink and accidently plowed into the side of
@Ninners . After that gave him enough room as to not push him into the wall and glanced back to see Andil right on my ass.
This it the time where I think the track for being so narrow so he couldn't go around me. Managed to barely hold him off.
Cautions at the end ruined my strategy, but at least it made it interesting.
