Firstly I'd like to apologise to
@snowgt for spinning him in turn 1. I tried to get on the inside and ran out of talent.
Having said that he managed to come second from the back of the field, further enforcing the Cobra's dominance.
Even after
@Furinkazen saying that this was a Cobra circuit their runaway success is getting bloody stupid now.
If Furi has neither the courage nor conviction to sort what can only be described as a joke, then I see little point in continuing this series.
I can understand that this is what it looks like to you, but you omit a number of facts in your rant(s).
- Yes, I did manage to get up through the field to finish 2nd. But that also means I made up a lot of time on Smuffy, who was in the same car. So, it wasn't just my oh-so-overpowered car, apparently I made a bit fewer mistakes than, probably, most other people.
- The fact that "the Cobra is dominating" might have something to do with the drivers who picked the car.
- The Cobra and the Vette had identical lap times in my testing at Laguna (Laguna was one of my pre-season test tracks). The fact that 3 Cobras were on top in qualifying tends to signify that the Vette-drivers weren't able to get the most out of the car even on one lap. By the way, the Alpine was at least 0.5s faster than both at Laguna.
In my opinion, the Cobra and the Vette are pretty much equal in terms of speed over one lap (on all tracks I have tested them at). From what I have seen, it is true that the Vette has more tyre wear, which comes into play especially this year because of the change to SM tyres. With the previously used SS tyres, probably most of the cars would have gone for 2-stoppers in the 2-hour races. With SM tyres it's possible for most cars to get through with 1 stop without much of drop off in lap times, which is the one point where the Vette suffers.
Now, what to do? From my point of view, it is really difficult to change this fact in the BoP. Tyre wear will always be heavier for the Vette, no matter how much weight you take out. So the Vette might still need 1 stop more. More power would also upset the great balance in top speeds (forget Le Mans No Chicane - it's very close everywhere else). So, if we have a change in the BoP, we have to be aware that the Vette will generally be faster than the Cobra until the tyres start to degrade. I can imagine removing about 5kg-10kg, if that's what is generally wanted (
@Furinkazen ?), and pending testing.
