Fuel prices

I think you're in the minority. It seems that people like to buy new cars every 5-10 years, even though some shouldn't be, but that's another story.
Not sure what how often someone buys a car has to do with how long it takes to break even buy going electric over gasoline power.

Let's say someone is budgeting, or not budgeting, just spending $40,000 every 5-10 years on a new car. The fuel cost savings may be a bit more relevant to them. The process may not make total sense, but people do it.

It was $4/gal when I filled up last, thankfully I have a work vehicle so I don't have to pay for it.

OK, I see what you mean now. What I was trying to get at is being told to change cars just to save gas. That's ludicrous.

If you change cars every so often "just because," then change to something more efficient if you want. That's a different reason to change, though.

Where I'm coming from is how often I hear people say, "I've got to get something that gets better mileage." They don't need a car, their only reason for wanting to change is to save on gas. It's just DUMB to spend tens of thousand to save a few thousand. Not good arithmetic!
