Fuel prices

Antarctica...........

Finally under $4.00 at $3.93 here in the western outskirts of the chicago area.
In the city it's still around $4.40.

Trade school like WyoTech or something else?

Antarctica ain't a country...

It's around 15 sek a liter here in Sweden which is about 1.64€ for 98 octane. So about 8 dollars/USgallon.

Here it seems to be roughly 30 cents cheaper per liter. 6.27USD per gallon.

So not that much cheaper, but I guess you see the savings by how far the car can go.

But putting in basic macro economics into this, with more people buying diesel cars over the years, won't diesel fuel eventually become more expensive than gasoline?

I seen this earlier today in my travels. God knows how long it's been since we've seen this price in Ohio. Under $3.00 p/gall.

I've a feeling it's only temporary though. After elections, it will probably shoot back up close to $4 were it has been hovering around here for quite some time.

I find it amusing that North Americans are complaining about $4 a gallon and $1.30 a liter, when it's almost double that in Europe.

In New Zealand we pay $2.18 per litre for 91 octane, $2.28 for 95 octane and $2.36 for 98 octane in the main cities and more in the smaller towns further away.

I think we pay close to $4.00 for that.

edit Just over $3.00 for Av Gas and depending on how much E85 you buy it can be up to $4.00 a litre.

Bopop4, Hook a brother up !

Racing fuel around here (location pending) $7 - $9 p/gall., even more at the track. Also $ pending if it is VP, Sunoco, etc. VP typically is more.

When you're used to cheap fuel for years and years, a sudden increase does catch you off guard. Plus with Europe the currency is different, the taxes are typically higher and shipping costs can be more as well. The US has a pretty low gas tax on average than many other places.

In the last 8 years, a gallon of 87 regular unleaded has gone from $1.30 to nearly $5

I just looked on the Sunoco site. About $10 a gallon, 2.50 a liter.
I'll have to check it next time we get to Mosport.

How does your mass transit system compare though?

Awesome. :sly:

In all reality, and let's try to be honest about this, what do you consider to a "fair" price to pay for fuel ?

$1.50 - $2.00 - $2.50 - $3.00 ..... higher ? lower ?

I understand about the refining process, the marketing process, supply and demand, blah, blah, blah, but I think somewhere in the $2.00 to $2.50 range is a fair price.

I imagine they could put a lot of people to work if they really set out to create a good nation wide mass transit system. I have no idea how much that would cost though, and Americans don't like to pay taxes. :P

You have no idea how many roads we have over here lol. Fixing the transit system would put the States so much further into the debt.
And nobody likes to pay taxes.

I was thinking more in terms of rail transportation. Maybe that's cheaper to maintain?

Rail travel is much more expensive than driving. The only reason people go by trains nowadays is for the experience. (Apart from "GO" trains in cities and subways, those are useful.)

91 Octane ~ $1.45 - $1.53/L
95 Octane ~ $1.50 - $1.60/L
98 Octane ~ $1.55 - $1.70/L
LPG $.60 - $.69/L
The prices vary week to week here but currently they're around these levels.
Dad's new car is on LPG and I don't think he could be happier about it.
