Funny Easter Egg

I'm not impressed until I see the barcode and the serial number of the models.

Working with an art department, this is a joke that an artist did or a clever easter egg. We do the stuff from time to time or out of spite sometimes.

Great find!!!

Fess up, who else flipped a car after seeing this just to check the bottom?

I did. It was a premium though (FIAT 500), and just had one of those normal 'high quality' bottom textures. I do wonder how they got the bottoms on some of these though. My two guesses involved either a giant, multi-million dollar flatbed scanner custom made to take a car's weight, or just driving over a service pit and having a guy shoot it from below. I don't know if either happened, seems like most don't have bottoms.

Right about the same time you find a sense of humor.

I more than have a sense of humour (and can spell it, just to prove it), but this "Easter Egg" isn't funny, it just shows what the development team REALLY used for their car models.

The 'net is gradually filling up with GT5's inadequacies now, so these little "Gifts" from the production crew really are more laughable by the day. Still the mystery remains - what where they doing for six years? Because it certainly wasn't modelling cars.

Of course it's been proven in this thread that the underside of the car is just an intentional easter egg, so your baseless ranting is quite moot.
GT5 is quite a fantastic game, proof of that is that haters have to resort to some quite silly nitpicking in order to try and downplay it.

Not really no. This thread doesn't prove anything, other than that the quality control people at PD are also unable to deliver their promises, just like their esteemed leader.

GT5 is fantastic? And that is of course confirmed by its only-just-above-average reviews - web wide? We don't need to downplay it, its downplaying itself with the number of gamers who are fed up with playing it already, fed up with the glitches, lousy feature choices, lack of tuning etc.

Sure hope they licensed the AutoArt logo...or I smell a lawsuit.

And on the heels of a first week sales record Sony and PD are ripe for the picking by the League of Angry Lawyers.

Fixed for you.

You honestly believe this? It is not humor, it is laziness or rather limited resources. PD were never going to get every car up on hoists just to take pictures of the underside. Why do you think there are always model cars in every shot of the PD studio?

Seriously, n e one that thinks this is anything but an eegg is a noob. Just think for a sec, logically... Even if they did used this model to model the skyline in the game, why would they scan the bottom of the model??? Ecspecially considering the rest of the underside of the model doesnt look like what in the game.

Its a blatent easter egg

I get the feeling if this was in another game, the defense as intentional wouldn't be nearly as strong.

I'm going for easter egg too.

Other games include them and Polyphony Digital have included them in previous games too (Monkey, Loch Ness monster), why not have something funny within GT5 too?

People should lighten up a bit and laugh at it and not rant about how rubbish Polyphony Digital are. Whether it was intentional or not, it doesn't ruin the game, most people won't ever notice it and for those that do it will put a smile on their face.

I don't think anyone is claiming it ruins the game. I think they are feeling it may represent laziness and sloppiness on pds part and brings into question how these cars were modeled and whether they were really done as thoroughly and time consumingly as pd lead us to believe. It plays a roll in the "what have they been doing this whole time?" Question.

Amen to that. If it was in "another" game, there'd no doubt be a crescendo of:

"Look how lame the other developers are..."

Selective criticism is a very serious problem around here. Its the age old PS/XB battle of wills anyway, those of us that already know the answer already play "other" games.

But in light of just how snappy and defensive the PS community seem to be about this precious game, its been more fun of late seeing everyone here squirming while trying to keep positive about something that is clearly a turd of a game, in HD.

This is actually kind of sad to see. 6 years and all they could muster up for this was a half ass texture on the bottom?? They could atleast just get a decent picture of the entire undercarriage of a stock R34 skyline, and use that on all the R32, R33, and R34 models, race car and stock. This is disappointing to see. Yes I know it's the underside, we don't see it much, but this is quite the shortcut.

And some kind of axle.. and some kind of inside of wheel...

Why?! Why waste time on stuff like that when your only supposed to see for a split second. Yes, it took six years to get what we got, and you want them to take more time for little insignificant details?!?

I mean seriously, first you moan it took too long, then it comes out and they didn't spend enough time on it.
