Yeah, but they still call it duct tape despite the fact that it really shouldn't be used on ducts.Stop killing Ducts to make duct tape.
Also, it can be duck tape.
I don't wanna be that guy but theres some language in there by the wing.
Maybe this tape is used to stop ducks quacking and not for air conditioner ducts.

Duct tape was designed to hold air conditioning ducts onto the vents that why it's called duct tape.Oddly enough, duct tape is the worst way to seal actual ducts. So it probably would be better at stopping a duck from quacking.

We must have different duct tapes, in Australia duct tape isn't the tape with fabric on it, that's cloth tape here and duct in Australia is only made of sticky vinylNope, it was originally developed during WWII to keep ammunition dry (was also originally called "duck tape" due to the fabric). After WWII it was marketed in hardware stores as a general fix-it tool. Only later did it get utilized for ducts. However, the glue doesn't hold up very well in the long run so it eventually falls off. These days we use either a tape specifically made for HVAC (pretty much a super thin piece of metal with adhesive) or a kind of sealant called mastic.

I agree the cloth tape does suck for air conditioner ducts but it can hold a windscreen in a car going 100mphWe have both kinds here as well, the vinyl stuff is just normal duct tape, the cloth stuff has "cloth" in front of the duct tape part. Either way though it still sucks for sealing ducts.
