I agree the cloth tape does suck for air conditioner ducts but it can hold a windscreen in a car going 100mph
The force of air against the windshield of a car going 100mph probably helps. How do you suppose the gaffer tape would hold in the event that said car stops from 100mph instantly?

:P

When I was in the US army, they called duct tape 'hundred mile an hour tape'. They told us it was first used to tape over bullet holes on airplanes in WWII.

Name a car that stop instantly from a 100mph,
But I guess it may something to do with the sticky glue on it, and it's about holding the windscreen in place at 100mph not stopping from 100mph.

All of them.

 you do realize the whole 100mph thing is a myth, unless I missed an episode of mythbusters.

You are right about force of air on the windscreen but maybe they used a car that doesn't have a flange for the windscreen to sit in, like a locking strip windscreen?

Maybe this tape is used to stop ducks quacking and not for air conditioner ducts.

Silence is golden, duct tape is silver.

Nope, it was originally developed during WWII to keep ammunition dry (was also originally called "duck tape" due to the fabric). After WWII it was marketed in hardware stores as a general fix-it tool. Only later did it get utilized for ducts and marketed as "duct tape". However, the glue doesn't hold up very well in the long run so it eventually loses it's seal or just falls off. These days we use either a tape specifically made for HVAC (pretty much a super thin piece of metal with adhesive) or a kind of sealant called mastic.

Was about to go hunt for a Simple Histiry video saying theexact same thing. Could it be we have the same source?

Beats me. Anyway...
